It was a nice day, but sloppy game in Moorhead on saturday.  The CC offense decided to fumble the ball 7 times losing it 6 times.  Two of which were recovered in the endzone by the pipers to give them their 14 points.  If that occurs this weekend in Northfield, I can see a repeat of last years 49-14 rout.  Overall, a win is a win and a big congrats to Cory Johnson for eclipsing the 2000 yard mark for his career.  It took him 285 carries to get there making it a average of 7.8 yds a carry!  Not too bad.  The D-Line was constantly in the backfield and the secondary was keeping everything in front of them.

On to the oles.  Johnnie faithful who should we be looking for to make an immediate impact on the game?  I am only asking you because I am not sure how many oles will be on the board following saturday's loss and previous predictions of 0 posters heading into the weekend!

Obvious start would be Penz, Gant, and Schmiesing for the passing game, and the tandem of Endsley and Watkins at running back.  Any given week, any of them can take over a game.
If memory serves, Rydberg had a big game against the cobbers last year, at mike backer, and I would expect more of the same this year.  A new player to look out for is #41 Adam Concannon, the guy is a smashmouth linebacker, and is gonna love playing against the cobber running attack.

cobbernation,
what can the oles expect out of Concordia this year?  more of the same running game?  how are they looking defensively?

Johnnie fans,
after seeing both the oles and cobbers, what is your take on the game?

It's good to see we have a convert, as you obviously replied to a question directed towards the Johnnie faithful.  Next target:  AO.

The Ole passing game is at least as good as the Johnnies', and we saw what they did to the Cobbers.  So long as St. Olaf doesn't have a letdown between a crushing loss to St. John's and the big game against Bethel I think they win this one handily.

I'll agree that Saturday was far from his best performance. If you'd have seen him throwing against Concordia, though, you'd have come away with a much more favorable impression. Such is sports, though. I think Penz will be able to carve up the Cobber D. Should be a nice matchup for the Oles.
Nice day, huh?

Esq;  Where were you this weekend?  You need to start making some time for mandatory meetings Saturday morning at 9:00am.    8)

I was at a wedding of a client.  I had to rub in the game score to a few Tommies with whom I attended the matter.  It was good.

I'm not sure if I will be down in St. Peter this weekend, but I do expect to be at Hamline with grill in hand in a few weeks.

It was windy out there. I was hoping Penz was going to attack the middle of the field a bit more, but he was pretty safe with most of his throws.

:o TC don't even joke about that ... I was merely putting in my two cents, and trying to show that I plan on sticking around despite the fact that it's not Johnnie week in Northfield.

It's Johnnie week, every week, everywhere. ;D

Thanks for deleting my post last night, Pat. I'm sure it was warranted, seeing as it was my most civil post in roughly 3 years.

Funny how the Oles continues to avoid discussion about the Gant situation, despite having full details available to them. While I won't be so lame as to claim a non-denial as any sort of admission, it's telling that you refuse to answer even simple questions associated with the non-event.

If a potential MIAC MVP who's been featured prominently in the Strib each of the last two weeks getting himself in troubs isn't news, I'm in the wrong business.

I received a call from Kilted Rat last night/morning about 12:30am.  He was quite pleased with the game and just barely coherrent.  He said he owes his left nut to Buckman for the in-game updates.

Thankfully, I think we agreed that a beer would suffice.

Very kind of you to lower the stakes.

Great game on Saturday and nice to meet the Oles in attendance. You have a darn good team, just glad the better team won. ;) Seriously, we may meet again this year. Why don't you do us a favor and knock off Bethel for us? That would be cool. 8)

Penz is a good QB, I'll acknowledge that.  However, when he was pressured...finally....he made some errant passes and didn't seem to know what to do.  Any QB will do well without being pressured.  The key to beating Olaf is to pressure the QB.  If Concordia can do that, they'll do ok and could win the game.  I think that Olaf will beat them though.  Olaf is a good team.  They are good at the dink passes -- pass for 5 yards and run for a lot more.  SJU did defend against that.  Olaf has a good, pounding running game too.

FGF84,
Yes, more of the same running attack for the cobbers.  However, against HU we didn't pass the ball very much only because the running game was working out in our favor.  Saying that if the Oles stop CC's running game they will be forced to pass and this season the Cobbers are doing better than the past one.  I am hoping for a good game and not sure yet if I will make the trip down to Northfield.
