Hmm, I didn't even know GAC was considered a "rival".  They haven't beat SJU since I've started following the program and the Johnnies are 19-1 against them since the game sju56321 mentioned.

When I was in Collegeville, GAC had as many MIAC titles as SJU in football (all-time).  SJU has since surpassed that mark...but the Gusties finished second or third in the conference every year between 1997-2001 (losing in the final game of the season in 1998 to the Johnnies that would have tied them for the MIAC title); it was only recently they fell on hard times.  But they are a traditional MIAC "power" that I learned early never to take lightly.

I remember that 1998 game well-- in the dome, and Herbst ran wild.  I also remember the 2002 game-- where a pass to Ryan Hoag near the end zone went incomplete giving the Jays the 20-7 victory.

I always love playing GAC because I get to imagine that we are beating Michigan... ;)

Quote"Just a flukeJust an ordinary kid making an extraordinary play," Meidt said. "We had pressure on [Kofoed], he threw it up for grabs knowing someone would make a playand all of a sudden a kid comes from nowhere. It's a play where, if we intercept, it turns the tide of the game. But they make the play and they score. That's kind of what they call Johnnie Magic up here."

It all came down to making plays when it mattered!  Case closed!

Ran across this site last night.  Once we get 50 people to commit to a pair of pants, I can place the custom order with them for the SJU1 Pants.  Debuting at a Stiftungsfestivities near you...

Shorts, maybe -- and that's maybe.  Otherwise it's still you, Fins and 48 others yet to be named.

Living in the gator & skeeter part of SEC/ACC country is going to your head. :P

Per the board's request, I just did some sleuthing and got my facts straight on the Gant situation.

It was a situation and is not anymore. He was suspended and unable to practice during a bogus investigation, which apparently happened to end before Saturday's game, thereby making him eligible again.

I won't drag his dirty laundry onto the board, but it's a rather innocent situation at the end of the day. Something a simple PM or email would have easily solved, had the Oles been looking to stop the mudslinging rather than inflame a notorious flamethrower such as myself :)

The situation can be summed up with a phrase I'm sure Bennie will appreciate: Girls are crazy  ;)

To show that I'm not trying to single out the hated Oles, I'll offer up a different sort of direction for this board to take.

Bethel posters: It's been brought to my attention that you've received VERY fortunate calls each of the last two weeks. It could easily be argued that each directly affected the outcome of your games, turning losses into wins. I'd like to hear your take on the following situations, since they've ressurrected your once-dreadful season.

BU vs. UST: Facing a third-and-15ish (maybe fourth down, I forget now) late in the fourth quarter while trailing, B-Weezy lobbed up a deep pass that fell incomplete. However, a ref threw a flag for pass interference on a play I've heard described as a "phantom call."

The Royals scored the go-ahead touchdown a few plays later and recovered a UST fumble deep in their own territory with less than a minute to play to lock up the win. Without the highly questionable flag, a loss seems nearly inevitable.

GAC vs. BU: Facing a third-and-long (again, I think, as I wasn't there) the Royals fumbled near the sidelines sometime in the first half. A Gustie player dove to save the ball from rolling out of bounds and slapped it backwards. A teammate scooped it up and scampered in for an apparent defensive touchdown.

The play was called back on a flag for batting the ball backwards, apparently. Maybe Mongo can elaborate on the situation and play, but this seems highly questionable.

My question is then this: Have the Royals benefitted from obvious reffing meltdowns, or is that just their Hail Mary's finally paying off?

Being at the GAC/Bethel game, when I saw the play in question, I thought it should have been a GAC TD.  But when I called Frank during the game and he explained the rule to me, it made sense from what I saw and I believe the refs made the right call on that one.  However, the refs at this game were not that great overall.  I recognized a couple of them from when I played and they weren't that great then either.  Especially the line ref who is quite large.  There was an obvious personal foul facemask right in front of him and there was no call.

With the way GAC played, I think Bethel deserved to win and would have no matter who was officiating.

I was also at the game, and the officiating was garbage both ways.  The fumble that bethel recovered near the sidelines and returned for a touchdown didn't look like a fumble to me because I don't think the receiver possesed the ball.  Same thing with Bernstetters catch and fumble, I don't think that he possesed the ball.  Similar call when Lee went up for a catch, then came down and the ball popped out when he hit the ground, clearly a ground caused fumble.  I was blocked for the facemask call so I can't comment on that.  The ref's were pretty poor both ways, but it didn't effect the outcome.
Oh, and I've never done a "hail mary" in my life. we're not catholic.

I do think the pants are kind of cool but the people in the pictures look like a bunch of preppy southern frat boys.
Yep, because they are  :o

Can you see 50 guys wearing SJU pants walking into Earl's in Melrose. Earl may just have the "big one" and cash in his chips.

I'm not sure Pennington & Bailes would know how to take Stearns County. Not quite the deep south, but certainly not New England.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Frank and I aren't Catholic either, but we both bumped to Pac's Hail Mary back in the good ol' dorm days  8)

Pretty sure Mongo was too busy rocking out to Warrant to join us...

What's the early head count for Pattys? I should be in, pending any last minute change of plans.

Of course the real question is why did the board have to request it?  You would think that a person would want the facts straight in the first place.

Why stop dragging dirty laundry now?  And how can it possibly be the Oles' fault that you were set on "mudslinging"?  I believe the argument was that you, as a "notorious flamethrower", were in no position to ask the questions in the first place, much less warrant an answer.

Can't sling mud at Gant anymore, why not try the girl, huh?

Sounds like a great game from Collegeville, where the Johnnies somehow always find a way to pull out a win.. it gets old after a few decades >:(!!  Anyways, good homecoming in Moorhead, a bit sloppy to say the least as CN said before, but a win is a win is a win, and the defense was intense, wow Strother and Carlson were in the zone always puting pressure on the QB every down not to mention Lewis who too, seemed always to be involved in just about every play.  Now to the Oles, congrats a great game against the Johnnies, and now, its time for Lefse Bowl 2007!  See you guys at the Legion on Friday night, I need to hear me some Dazasta.. UM NO NO

OzJohnny93 - I must have missed the memo that this was the New York Times rather than a simple message board. Should I cite my sources for you next time as well? :-*

I'm sure you'll be upset to know that not one piece of information I posted was ever incorrect about Gant's situation. If a problem arises that affects at least 100 other people on campus — namely, his teammates — and at least one non-teammate, I'm sure at least 5,000 people know the full details. Point being, I'm hardly breaking any sort of privacy laws here.

In fact, you or anyone else on this board could get your hands on the legal details of the situation if you knew who and where to ask. I got myself the info for a similar situation here barely 4 months ago.

And, for the record, I reported the news years ago that GAC was punished for misinterpreting the spring practice rules during its first year and punished by the MIAC for it, losing precious practice time at a later date.

If it's news — good, bad or ugly for my team or another — and I hear about it, it's going to get posted. Deal with it, big boy.

I know that it is way to early in the week to be talking football, but I am worried about this week.  Hoping that the Johnnies are not getting too used to being able to pull it out in the fourth, nice to do but it shouldn't be in the weekly game plan.  Personally I will take the monkey stomping every week.

Still, it's not public information unless it's one the record and verified by a reputable source. What you have is basic rumor-mongering. Perhaps you should work for the New York Post, TMZ.com or the Drudge "throw it up, and if it sticks 1 time out of 100, people will remember it, otherwise I could care less if its true or not" empire?

Basically, all you need to have said was that he was being held out of practice for some reason, and if it comes out WHY in public (and not campus hearsay) THEN it's a good topic for discussion.

Stanbob:  Don't worry about it.  This week has Monkey Stomp written all over it.  The Gusties are overmatched and I smell a beatdown!!!

Forgot to mention that I spotted the UST Tommie Cheer Squad waving their pom-poms at the runners between mile marker 22 and 23 of the TC Marathon yesterday.  I guess when your football team is that bad you'll cheer for anything!

Were I writing frontpage stories for this site or writing an article for any newspaper about this, clearly I'd agree with you. However, WE'RE POSTING ON A MESSAGE BOARD PEOPLE.

Also, once an investigation has been completed, it's officially filed and open to the public to peruse (SEE: VICK, Michael and ESPN's exhaustive coverage through all the dirty details). You need but ask the right county office. Since Gant was suspended until the investigation was complete, and he played Saturday, that would seem to be the definition of public information, no?

Also, please define "reputable" for me. Would a roomie of a current player AND one of Gant's teammate be reputable enough for you, or should we rely on the likes of The Hammer as your reliable insider? :-*
