I just received the following email from Saint John's: Senior Safety John Cloeter (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) Named a Semifinalist for the 2007 Draddy Trophy.

The Draddy?  I had to look it up.  http://www.footballfoundation.com/draddy.php

Named in the honor of Vincent dePaul Draddy, who served The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame for 33 years and 19 years as Chairman of the Board, the trophy has become the most prestigious and desirable "academic" award in college football. The trophy, often referred to as the "Academic Heisman," recognizes an individual as the absolute best in the country for his academic success, football performance and exemplary community leadership.

A scholar-athlete himself at Manhattan College, Draddy passionately believed in the premise that excellence on the football field could, and should, be consistent with academic distinction and the highest standards of civic leadership. He thought that young men who combined athletic performance with academic excellence should be recognized. After his passing in July of 1990, the NFF perpetuated his memory and beliefs by establishing a scholarship that would recognize the scholar-athlete who most fully embodies the ideals of The National Football Foundation.

Every year, the Awards Committee meets in late October and selects the winner. Currently, the winner of the award not only receives the stunning 24-inch, 25-pound trophy but also a $25,000 postgraduate scholarship.

Way to go, John Cloeter!

Not withstanding Ritz and his "Crazy Talk", I suggest we keep our Puck Patter to between Mondays and Thursdays so as not to impinge on Johnnie football talk.
As bennie, BDB et. al. will attest, hockey is the best in person spectator sport in the world. Nothing is faster, harder hitting or requires more skills than hockey. If you don't like it, one would think that appreciation for the skills involved would keep you from denegrating it. As to it's limited following, I'll paraphrase Thoreau in his treatise on Civil Disobedience. If you are more right than your apponent, you already have a majority of one.

BDB - Good luck with your son's team this season.

I do...to real sports, not niche, fading, irrelevant sports whose season is 9 months long...

I dare you to say that to a hockey players face! ;) ;D

I would, but I'd have to limit myself to single syllable words

First I would like to apologize to the board for my recent inactivity.  I have realized that the banter on here is quite boring (see: squirt hockey invites) without capable antagonists.  Secondly I regret to inform all Gusties and St. Peter that I am unable to grace them with my presence at the homecoming festivities this week as work has me enjoying the beautiful weather of SEC country for the next two weeks.  Also, to Wonka and my gustie d3football posters make sure to avoid any and all johnnie koolaid regardless of how much alcohol they promise is in it ;D.

p.s.  While St. John's may currently have a superior football team, I do take pride in the fact that they still only have cold trophies and big bennies (Bennie not included) to keep them warm at night.  So I like to think like Sean Connery says "Winners go home and f*&$ the prom queen", and prom queens go to GAC ;) ;D :D!
I like to picture my Jesus singing lead vocals for Lynard Skynard with like a band of Angels behind him, and I'm in the front row HAMMERED drunk!!!

Heading to the MIAC game of the week this saturday!  Carleton vs. Hamline!! Haha.  Anyone have any ideas for a good bar/restraunt for before the game? Maybe we can tailgate?

Expect a surprise from The Knights this weekend.  A very unexpected suprise.  Knights should go on a little tear to end this year.  I think they will win 4 of their last 5.  I must be nuts right?

I've got a little -K for all the hockey haters.  I concur with retagent.  It is by far the best sport in person (and shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that includes football).  In fact, TDT will be at the Panthers vs. Devils game tonite.  Should be right next to the penalty box antagonizing the Sin Bin inhabitants for all my fans with the Center Ice Package.

BTW: It blows my mind that you can grow up in the State of Hockey and not appreciate the game.  Are you guys serious?  The experience at the Xcel Center is 2nd to none.

Shakenbake,

You don't have to make excuses.  Just admit to us that you don't want to see your Gusties get their butts handed to them this weekend.

Prom queens may got to GAC, but you can't get one. Keep dreaming, though.:P

It'd be a great time.  But because of the company, not the game ;)
