Directions to Patrick's on Third:

Coming south on 169:

Take 169 into St. Peter through the stop lights at MGM liquor.  Take a right on Park Row (the next street), there will be a big painted sign on one of the building for Patrick's on that corner.  Go down one block, find a parking spot.  It's on the corner.

Any chance you could send this poor Gustie grad some Carleton Crown Lager?  I spent J-Term 2003 in Wollongong and Sydney and fell in love with that beer.

Sure, why not?  I'll ship you a six-pack.  I'm not sure if it will make it, but we can give it a go.  PM me an address.

I figure if the Sydney-siders let you on to some good Melbourne suds, instead of that dredge from the piss-trough that they "brew", you should be rewarded.

Fantastic.  Some of the other stuff wasn't too bad.  Victoria Bitter, Toohey's New and Carleton Cold were decent, but paled in comparison to Crown, but we could only afford so much of that stuff.  It's funny though how you can only get Foster's in tourist type bars.

I also enjoy ice fishing, but it really doesn't compare to leaving the National Hockey Center with an entire mob chanting "F*&% the GOPHERS!!!".  By far the most entertaining sporting events I have been to are hockey games.  Yes even better than a playing a game at SJU.

As a resident Gopher puck fan (as compared to my slightly misguided compatriot SJU56317, the resident Sioux fan), seeing a bunch of 40-something guys in Arctic Cat jackets shouting said phrase along with the mob while pulling their young, Arctic Cat jacket-wearing children along with is certainly an exciting place to be.   ::)

I will take Mariucci or Mariucci West any day over the National Concrete Center, and I'd take the DECC twice on Saturdays-- I may even think of going to the Kohl hole instead.  My personal favorite is how SCSU fans (also known around the WCHA as "Jan Brady State U." after their complaints about big sister Minnesota "Marsha-Marsha-Marsha!") have a habit of making a "Golden Chokers" chant.  This from a university that has a Zero point zero winning percentage in the NCAA playoffs.

Hey! Drop the Puck!  Gophers-RPI tonight! I'm off to the LL to rabble rouse!

Bah, I may have been out of town for a while, but I didn't just get off the banana boat...  I could buy Fosters in the bottle shop up in Grand Rapids when I visited my folks in summer last year.  Maybe I should do an online search to see if you can pick up Crownies in Minnesota...  ;)

WAHOO3

Sitting at the airport, flight delayed -- I hate O'Hare

A couple thoughts on the Ole/Cobber game:

1. This game is the battle for the ugliest rivalry trophy: The Troll. However, its the most fun to have in your trohpy case. The thing is halarious.

2. The key to the game, in my perspective, is for the Oles to continue playing at a high level. We all know how a team can either rally on a tough loss, or accept that "it's not meant to be." Losing a close one to the Johnnies that they had the opportunity to win, hopefully will rally the squad.

3. I strongly believe that defenses are so focussed on stopping the Oles pass game that our running game can dominate games. Our offensive line is great and I think that at critical moments the run game can control the tempo instead of forcing our passing game.

4. If Rydberg/Concannon and the Ole D-Line continue their effective play, I think the D can force some turnovers.

5. The Cobbers seem to be a different team this year, I wish I could be there to see it, but unfortunately I have to miss another Ole game.

Congrats to the Draddy Trophy Sem-Finalists from the MIAC. I'm assuming Penz is the first one ever from Olaf. A nice honor for the 3 MIAC guys.

Hope everyone has a safe trip tomorrow for the game. I will wait until tomorrow morning with baited breath to see if Johnniefootball.com picked against SJU. :)

I don't know if the Oles will have to force turnovers.  After watching the HU game the cobbers will cough up the ball by bad pitches and tosses at least twice.

Doh.  Sorry about that-- I stopped short thinking you had the St. Joe zip.  My bad.

I hope both teams get to Denver-- always more fun with an all-WCHA frozen four.

I'm pretty sure the U.S.-sold Fosters is actually brewed in Canada and still therefore "imported"...

If JR goes to Sydney, he's got to get to Coogee, Bondi and Manley beaches. As he's the father of a girl I ought not mention this, but the views are better on warm days.

Food there is incredible. Get a carpetbagger steak at a Kingsley Steak House downtown. The one we frequented had a great cigar bar with Castro's best.

For Manley, it's a great ferry ride from Circular Quay past the Opera House.  Ribs and Rumps is the place to go.

Carleton Crown is great beer. While on my project there, we were conditioned to drink VB because it was the only one on tap at our locale. Seemed like the Grain Belt of New South Wales, but if you added a Magnum ice cream bar it would make a fabulous two-course meal.

Do the Bridgeclimb -- touristy but fun. They take a BAC before you go, so party afterward at the Mercantile Hotel in the Rocks district.

Great country.

Just like everything on the SCSU campus, the National Hockey Center isn't fancy, but I do enjoy watching games there.  The place would be looking at an upgrade if law makers would have approved the equivalent of about 8% of the money they approved for the new Gopher football stadium for an addition to the NHC.  I can't say anything to refute the "Jan Brady State U." comment.  I really think the MNSCU mission will always prevent SCSU from becoming the school that I would like to see it become.  I have some ideas about how changes could be made, but hockey is already far enough off topic...

Mr.Shoes

So much interesting chatter since I read last...

• I really really really really want to get to Australia sometime. Anyone got frequently flyer miles to donate? :D
• Go Sioux!
• Dunno if I'll be at GAC or not, but I won't be picking them.
Nice day, huh?

Redtooth

SamWill47-- Your buddy Ritz can give you more clues if these don't help....Two weeks ago I blew up Ritz on his claim that in 93 he paved the way for the 700 pt offense...I reminded him that he was on the 2nd team (although they did play alot).  His response was that I needed loosen the sleeves on my arms and the neck roll.  He also said I lost alot of blood flow to my brain long-snapping so much.  I hope that helps ;D

A review of the film will confirm my claim.  I scared the return man into having the ball bounce off his shoulder pads...it rolled into the end zone....we both dove for it....and I gave it to you at the bottom of the pile.....Olineman are not supposed to score TDs.  I did proceed to let the St. Thomas bench and fans know what I thought of them...watch the film and you will see what I'm talking about.

Forgive me, but asking for a handout from the legislature to improve an arena that was a gift by the legislature to begin with is absolutely ludicrous-- especially because St. Cloud residents voted down a sales tax increase to improve the civic center-- so the state reps go to the legislature to fund an addition to the concrete center to function as the civic center instead.  Umm....why?   That it was even considered by the legislature more than ticked me off.  Meanwhile, Duluth, who actually passed a sales tax raise to pay for their share of the improvements to a 40 year old arena, doesn't get their share from the legislature to fund their arena, in part because they have to wait for St. Cloud to finish their spiel on why they shouldn't have to pay for the addition on their own  dime to the less than 20 year old arena the state built for them in the first place and gave them rent free, not to mention get all the receipts from.  Go to the back of the line!  Bemidji has more pressing needs than St. Cloud!

It's wonderful to talk about the two greatest sports in the world-- WCHA hockey and MIAC football.

Any Gusties out there...what do you expect the seating situation to be on Saturday?  Is there any place to put up a lawn chair if I don't want to sit in the stands?  How early will I need to get there if I want to sit in the stands?  Any other advice?   :-\
