Yeah, I would vote to keep day games, for sure!  They're much better and warmer ;D
Eons ago I went to a high school football game in Hibbing while visiting relatives. Night games+ Northern Minnesota in late fall+ aluminum bleacher seating= a frozen a$$!! Afternoon games are definitely the way to go! ;D

I high school, we always played at night and I thought it was great.  Once I got to college and started playing on Saturday afternoons, I really started to like day games.  It just makes more sense.  Plus, if you look at it from a $$$ perspective, I would bet a lot more people are willing to come to games during the day than at night.

A tradition unrivaled...

Last night on the Thursday night SJU Football radio show something was muttered about Tom Stock trying to add lights in Collegeville.  Has anyone heard anything about this?  I guess I would prefer to keep things as they are.  Maybe more HS playoff games could be played there and that might help recruiting, and the Prep school could play night games, but I would like to keep all afternoon games for SJU.  Does anyone else have an opinion on this matter?

I think we need a big video scoreboard first-- that alone should prevent the use of "fans, turn to page XX to see if you have a red "Go Johnnies" stamped on your page..." after every other play.  We could mount it on the Palaestra side of the field, and we could have exploding fireworks after every Johnnie touchdown too.

Seriously-- can we remove ourselves from the roots of the stadium any further?  I would rather they reconstruct the stone fence around the field and the stone arch that used to be the main gate for the stadium.  But stones don't bring in the $$$-- having teams pay to play on your field at night does, though.

p.s. Take that political funding talk somewhere else, as I am quite sure  this is D3football.com.

Yeah, well on KFAN right now they are discussing the Springsteen concert.

All kinds of subjects will come up from fishing to beer to whatever besides football.

Enjoy it. Chime in. Or ignore it and try to change the subject.

It shouldn't be an issue to secure financing for the scoreboard, but how would the school pay for all those fireworks?

Too easy, TC:

"This touchdown drive was brought to you by Phantom Fireworks, America's Fireworks Company."

Look at the possibilities here!

Yeah but who doesn't like the Boss that's basically like not liking America ;D?  Same for fishing, beer, and the irresponsible activities of undergrads that all can be very interesting discussion whereas all that political jazz never leads anywhere and is boring imo and that was my point.  Oh, and I honestly don't care if it's your first or 1 millionth post I will let you know what I think ;) and in this case I didn't think that was an interesting thread.

Word is the Lafayette overunder was 3 picks and 3 td's for Stolp.  What side would ya'll bet on?  Crap this georgia accent is infecting my typing now as well >:(
I like to picture my Jesus singing lead vocals for Lynard Skynard with like a band of Angels behind him, and I'm in the front row HAMMERED drunk!!!

Duff, esq and TC,

The scoreboard idea was looked into when we went the sponsorship route 02/03.  At the time the design committee would not allow for a scoreboard to be larger than the one the existed prior...thus we had Daktronics redo the old one with some new technology.  I do have to say that attending the college games that I do now, the video board is great.

Fireworks would be really cool, but I have a better idea.....ROTC cannon ;D  After every score the cannon goes off.  We have that here and it is great. Scares the sh1t out of half the crowd and the opposing team.  They also have it go off 10 minutes before kickoff and 5 minutes before the end of the half to get people back from tailgating 8)  Johnnie Red and the Stifty crew would love this.

Lights could be under discussion now but highly unlikely.  The design committee has historically been strongly against lights.  The only use/agrument I could see would be high school game revenue, which would not be that great.  BTW- the newer SCSU stadium provides that sort of venue.  SJU would never play a home game under the lights.....John has frequently joked about wanting a Dome :o :o

Duff-I would agree that SJU would probably lose dollars if they had night games, but maybe people would stay at the Guest House, instead of driving back to the Cities.
I'm thinking Duff could have played o-line back in '93 and those guys would have still scored in the 60's and 70's.
Oh God-no cannon-I got enough of that at UWW the last two years and "Beaver on the carry."

Also, there are only bathrooms under the GAC stands and not that many urinals, so expect a back up if nature calls.  I'm hoping they put some port-o-johns near by.

Are there any large plants close by?

A few trees are around.  It wouldn't be the first time I peed in public on the GAC campus.

Duffman--Arlt is the real deal. I think the D-line is too concentrated on stopping the run, and since there is no pass rush, the GAC DB's have gotten burned a couple times.  I'm expecting at least once tomorrow that SJU will play action and GAC DB's biting the run fake, only to get burned.
Also, I dont think Patricks sells beer in cans, so I dont know how you and/or Frank are going to have a shotgun contest.  First-to-finish-a-pitcher contest perhaps?

I'm guessing 3 picks and 3 tds for Stolp would be about right.  The thing to bet on would be how many field goals/extra points will GAC miss--they've had a problem with this all season.
I'd post a lot more if I had a real job

I can't believe that you would insult a D-lineman  by saying "he could have played o-line"  D-linemen are athletes.. of course he could have played oline. ;)

All this talk of Duff on the oline....I need to weigh in.  We tried him there early in his career...traveled as an olineman....but the fact that he was missing a thumb that would have allowed him to hold better, we sent him to the dline :P

As a 12-year old, I would have dominated the MIAC. ;)

I posted this article about "The Selling of ASU Football" once before when the topic of commercialization of football came up to show that it can get worse.  That being said, I started to notice last weekend just how often they interrupt to have us open our programs to all those pages (I'm usually wandering around taking pictures of what's going on on the field - which I don't need to do the remainder of this year - and so really hadn't noticed this before).  And you're right, J esq, it sure is irritating. :P

The way I remember it, you begged me to play guard ;D

A half season there was enough.  I went back to the dark side and stayed there for good! :o
