That would be a Monkey Stomp Ritz.  These GACers are delusional...

BTW: FYI MIACPP, my sources tell me Wonka has been banned.  Cue the confetti, streamers, and lets get that keg of Olde Johnnie Ale started...

VOJ (Voice of Johnnies): Karma is what you make of it.  Some are proud to have exorbitant scores (Finsleft, BlueDevil Bob, etc.) and others such as myself are equally proud to be closing in on -1000.

Stanbob:  Don't worry about it.  This week has Monkey Stomp written all over it.  The Gusties are overmatched and I smell a beatdown!!!

Just outta curiosity, when was the last time GAC beat SJU?  I am with Esq, I remember when GAC was a top-tier team in FB.  They always seem to play the J's tough for a quarter or a half, then fall apart.  If the wind blows on the hill the result could be close.  Otherwise, STOMP STOMP STOMP.

Good to see everyone at Patricks yesterday.

It was a great day for a game and I was glad to see the stadium full, but it was sad that the Gusties played horribly.  SJU is a great team and they showed why they are ranked so high in the nation.  But I was expecting GAC to at least put a score or two on the board.  In the 3rd quarter it looked like GAC was giving up, something I have never seen in all my years of playing/watching GAC football.  It was difficult to watch and directly effected how many adult beverages I consumed later.

Seeing Frank last night at about midnight, I can only guess how much he is hurting right now.
I'd post a lot more if I had a real job

Let's just say a lot.  My thoughts on the game are put off till tomorrow.

GAC has a good program and I thought GAC would play a better game against SJU.  I can't say that I think much of GAC's play calling where the QB gets to the line of scrimmage and looks to the coach for a play.  That seemed to be more gimmicky than effective.  The new stadium will, no doubt, aid in recruiting.  At the end of the day, SJU gets the best athletes in the conference and that's the real difference maker.  SJU has great coaches but even great coaches can't do a whole lot without seasoned talent (See SJU FB team circa 1997.   That team had excellent young talent and fair talent elsewhere but the team's talent, especially at QB, was pretty much below par as far as what's typical for SJU.  They had Buller, Trobec, Herbst as juniors but, other than Emmerich and that D-back (an african american guy whose name escapes me now), the senior class wasn't really all that was it?

Redtooth

Chewey,

Mushatt was the corner opposite Emmerich.  The QB (when everything settled) was Kern.  Not a great year to remember. ???

Redtooth-you are right about that '97 team, especially coming off the '96 season undefeated in the MIAC. I helped plan a Bemidji gathering before that '97 game at Slims, to get beat on a hail mary, ouch. But I thought the defense was playing with the best in the country at the end of season, Wasn't Novack (sp?) on the '97 team-I thought I saw him play that year.

chewey

Thanks for the name, Redtooth.  SJU, Novak would have been a sophomore that year.  I really don't remember him playing extensively until fall of 1998 but I could be wrong.  Those years are getting pretty foggy now.  I wonder if anyone has a site that lists the rosters of years past.  I'd sure like to see it, if anyone does.  The only SJU team worse than the 1997 squad, that I remember, was the 1986 squad when I was a freshman at SJU.  As I recall, that team was supposed to be pretty good but went 4-4-1.  They got annihilated by Neal Guggemos and CST on parents' weekend and actually tied Mac.  They had a really good kicker (name escapes me now), Vince Reiter at RB and Mark Mooney and a young Dan Grant.  Rick Doherty (sp?) was injured all year and they probably would have been a lot better if he had been able to play.  That also was the year where one or two of them (I think they were FB players) got run over by a train in St. Joseph.  A disappointing year after the 1985 Mike Zumwinkle team won the conference.

You can't mention the 1997 SJU team without mentioning defensive lineman Matt Griffith, who was dominant and, I believe, an All-American. One of the better d-lineman SJU's had, and, perhaps most importantly, was the Shaq of the intraumural basketball league on our IM championship squads.

Chewey, Frank's book on Gagliardi (came out after the 03 season) had the all-time rosters up to that point, if you get a copy of that.

Any of you Johnnies from the mid 90s remember a O-lineman from Calif. named Joe Tocchini?

TDT - I hope you didn't hurt your arm what with all the patting yourself on the back.

I was just kicking Frank while he's down.  We are buds.  No worries.

TDT is actually watching this redic Boise State versus Nevada game.  61-61 in the 4 OT.  This team sure plays some magical games...BTW: 57, 20 of 21 is downright amazing.  I am cheering for the Rockies.  Could be ending the season just like we started it...with Snow filled ballgames in Cleveland and Denver.  Murphy's Law

I watched the BSU/Nevada game as well.  It was quite good, but the announcer (not sure who he was) brought up a good point:  When a game goes into 4 OTs, is it putting players--especially the larger players--at risk of injury, dehydration, exhaustion, etc?  One could make the argument that the college overtime system is tainted due to this.  I like the college OT system better than the NFL sudden death, but not if it is putting players in danger.  One answer is to make teams go for a 2 point conversion in the first OT.    Any thoughts?

As I'm sitting here (bored) waiting for boarding to be accounced, I thought I would send my Hamline prediction:

The well oiled machine gets more oil.  J's win again, 52 - 7.    O is overwhelming and scores on the first 6 possessions.  D almost gets the skunk, but misses out on a 4th period score.  That may not happen, since it will be the traveling squad and the 4th string won't get it, but I still think one TD is on the cards.

And with that, boarding is announced.  See you from Sydney.
