Duff,

You are right about the PLU offense....big difference they knew how to run them ;D  We also did our fair share of borrowing the effective ones :P  They were the best screen team ever.  I loved their reaction in 00 and 01 when we came out in their formations and ran their plays.....Frosty and Scott are/were pure class.

I keep going back to the photo that has been posted....it looks like he stole every truck stop diner menu between Glendive and St. Peter, mashed up the options and confused the sh1t out of everyone.

I just consulted my O-Line "playbook" from my years at SJU.  Oh wait, it is just a sheet of paper (writing only on one side)  and on most plays it says "GOB and ROB (Gap-On-On Backer & Reach-On_Backer)..I personally like the backside responsibilities on runs  "Chop His A$$"

Keep it simple folks.  I seem to remember playing UST in 93 and we ran the same play about 10 times in a row each time from a different formation!!
Someone like myself, who only played football through 8th grade and can't figure out anything about what is going on on the field can sure learn a lot about beer by reading this board. ;D

Baseball is tolerable beacuse it is not a niche sport that only about 3% of the people in our county care about.

Like, with all due respect over 3% of the population care about DIII football?  It's not the size of the audience, its the quality of the audience.  (Hockey excepted). :P

32 Things You Can Do With Beer

BESIDES WATCHING HOCKEY ;D

I might just have to take a Hamm's bath tonight. :D

How about this inspirational excerpt:

But when I punch on the Jacuzzi jets, my beer bath foams into an impressive head. Had I known about this possibility before, I would be the cleanest man in North America. After 20 minutes of soaking, I step out, heeding the brewer's advice to towel off without rinsing. I expect my skin to be tacky and tart-smelling, like a fraternity floor the morning after homecoming. But my wife buries her face in my chest and says I smell like fresh bread. The yeast — left in to soothe the skin — had made mine smooth and luxurious.

I'm just sure that FinsGF will coo that I smell like fresh bread. Shoes, you taking notes? I know you're planning a big night...

Man oh man - I wish I had known about #10. I would much rather drink beer for a week and GO through a strainer than take Percocet for a week and TRY to go through a strainer.  :'(

Mongo Warrior,

My statement about the complexity of the GAC offense was based on all the crap hanging off OC Brown's body in the photo from ROR.....Can you honestly tell me that having that many "supposed" offensive options/plays (two wrist bands and the full NFL OC play sheet) isn't too complex?  Clearly SJU was prepared and ready for the vaunted no-huddle, but my sources tell me that GAC executed poorly and appeared confused.  That is either poor coaching or too complex a system...You Pick 8)

One of the things John and the rest of the SJU staff do as well as anybody is keeping the game simple and executing like hell.  Even the Offensive Genius Kehres at Mount Union runs a very limited number of plays if you examined it closely.

I can see how one would assume that it is complex by looking at the wristbands, but we dont know if they are all individual plays/options.  Perhaps the plays/formations are broken into 1st, 2nd, 3rd down options.  Or one arm is pass plays and one is run.  When I played at GAC, coach Brown was known for a keep-it-simple coaching philosophy.  You can't just say an offense is complex by seeing two wristbands on a coaches arm.

Also, besides GAC's first opponent of the season, there hasn't been a defense that was not ready for the no-huddle.  That's why teams exchange tapes (video, whatever the hell you want to call it).  Anyone who watched the GAC/SJU game knows  that GAC executed poorly--any team that doesn't score executes poorly.  And yes, that could be because of poor coaching or an assumed "complex system", but it also could be the result of facing an outstanding defense or having low-quality athletes.
I'd post a lot more if I had a real job

Johnnie Guys who played, at least somewhat recently...

I'm interested to hear, after all of the discussion of the O-line playbook, what you think someone like AK has to read.  Having played in Haege's Offense for two years, and the one year we used Joe Austin's offense (now the O coordinator at Univ. of Dubuque in the IIAC and averaging 448.8 ypg) I've grown accustomed to highly complex offenses with voluminous playbooks.  I would like to know if the "Skill positioned" (I know lineman types, give me the grief now for that one!) players' playbooks at SJU are as simplified as the ones described in earlier posts.  I remember in A. Murphy's book the references to "Sieben Brown" and other simple sounding plays (Murphy does a good job fully exlpaining Sieben Brown as well!) but do these type of plays exist in a thick playbook that must be recalled be all skill position guys, or is everything as simplistic as all Johnnie associates make it out to be.

All of us in the conference that play you guys hear the horror stories of your conditioning regimine and your weight training.  We've be shocked and awed at the cruelty of your practices, the hours of drills in horrific conditions all in the quest for making COACH happy and to get him to stop using that damn whistle.  But, do these tortures continue to the playbook reviews?  Must you also memorize thousands of pages of text and drawings?  Are there 6 am study periods just to have down the first 17 play options out of 11 personnel or the 23 plays you could run out of Ace right tight?  Duffman- you may be the most recent Johnnie (at least I believe!)  Any contribution on this subject?
Out of order, I'll show you out of order! You don't know what out of order is, Mr Task! I'd show you but I'm too old, I'm too tired, and I'm too f----n blind. If I were the man I was 5 years ago, I'd take a FLAMETHROWER to this place. Out of order, who the hell do you think you're talking to?

As far as beer goes-  I attended Auggie Tech, can you get beer in anything other than the 40 oz. size?  Someone please let me know!
