Duff,

How in the holy hell did you (an accomplished dlineman) get trapped (by someone other than Miller  ;D ) into the marriage prep weekend?  Prepare to be bored out of your mind....and prepare to hear about natural family planning (revolves around your future Mrs. Duff's discharge :o ) until you sign the contract committing to following the plan......see Dusty and Veek for more information 8)

The other person I would recommend you talk to about this marriage prep topic would be Fins.......I guarantee he missed something important (beer drinking, hunting, baseball or SJU football) to participate in the full weekend of prepartation for marriage and look where it got him ;D

If your phone has internet, load up post patterns and hit refresh often.....if not, I can provide text updates from that same source.

Then this afternoon a guy came in to have the wiring taken off of his jaw as his jaw has healed from bring broken in a bar fight 2 months ago. He was wearing..... a Bethel t-shirt!
I thought about asking him if a teammate did it, but he revealed that he didn't go to Bethel, his girlfriend did. ;D

Not to rain on the MIAC day parade KR, but it might also have been the Bethel College in Tennessee or Bethel College in Indiana.

You assume I wouldn't have asked which Bethel it was... you underestimate me nearly as badly as you overestimate NWC and the rest of the schools in the NCCAA. His shirt had "Bethel.edu" on it. Click the link and let me know which one it is 8)

RE: Your cousin's
My high school coach always said if you're in a position for the refs to "cost you the game," you didn't deserve to win the game.
You can tell your cousin's they can play at NWC next year, their opponents are weaker teams than Wayzata's!

I wouldn't have faulted you for not knowing about the other Bethel colleges, the SJU dogma states that you must overlook every team on the regular season schedule and start planning for the second round playoff opponent in late september.    ;D

Bethel of Tennessee usually does have a solid NAIA football program by the way.  A Bethel (MN) vs. Bethel (IN) basketball matchup would also be good.

--I agree with your comment about refs not costing you the game.  Wayzata couldn't get much going on offense, despite having a few game-breakers running routes.

lastly--go Hamline.

At 2:52 pm this afternoon I became a proud parent for the third time with my wife giving birth to our first son, Eric James.

Everyone is doing fine and yes, he is planning on going to SJU!

Congratulations Veek! I've got an October boy as well and it is a sweet thing.

It just gives you another reason to drink as many Octoberfest beers as needed to celebrate.  I think I'll go have one right now.
I'd post a lot more if I had a real job

Congrats on the birth Veek.

Bethel- St. O thoughts:

Bethel usually has their way with St. Olaf.  St. Olaf has only beaten Bethel one time that I can remember.  The Oles have to play smart.  This is a game in which stupid penalties could cost the Oles.  Concordia exposed some of the problems with the running defense, and Bethel will likely try to keep the focus on the run.  If the Oles get back some injured players then the LBs should be able to stay in a little longer to protect the run.  Bethel looks to have a pretty good defense against the pass, but Penz will step it up.  Schmeising will need to be a little more involved in the offense.  If Olaf is healthy and plays their game I think they walk away with a win.

Would anyone be willing to send me quarterly text messages on Saturday?  I'll be at a marriage preparation retreat  :'(, but I'd like to get a couple game updates.  Send me a PM if you're willing.
I can send PMs but I'm too old to even Know what a text message is.  :-[

St. John's should probably pull for a Bethel win. If St. Olaf beats Bethel, and Bethel would beat SJU, the automatic bid would go to St. Olaf because they've been away from the playoffs the longest. And wouldn't Bethel then have the advantage for an at-large bid because of the head-to-head victory over the Johnnies, or would the two losses they have have more impact? I'd imagine it's head-to-head, but don't know the rule for sure.

The overall record is most important.  Bethel's two losses would almost assuredly keep them out given the likelihood of several teams from the West ending the season with only one loss, even if one of BU's losses were to the Oles and even if they did beat SJU.

Here are the scenarios as I see it right now:  Three MIAC teams are in the hunt for a playoff shot.

If BU wins Saturday and beats SJU, they get an autobid and SJU is a likely Pool C (assuming both teams otherwise win out).

If BU wins Saturday and loses to SJU, assuming both otherwise win out, SJU gets the autobid and STO is praying for an outside shot at a Pool C, which is pretty unlikely given they have two losses. (BU's loss to BVU is killer, as BVU is 2-4 overall right now).

If BU loses Saturday and beats SJU, assuming the same as above, three way MIAC tie, STO gets the autobid and SJU a likely pool C, with BU likely on the outside looking in.

If BU loses Saturday and loses to SJU, assuming above, SJU wins the autobid and STO a likely pool C team.

The assumptions are big, as SJU, STO and BU cannot afford trip-ups at this point given who they have left on their schedule.  Other teams to watch are UWSP, Wartburg/Central,  Whitworth/PLU/Linfield.

Thanks for the explanation esq.  I am not a huge fan of bethel's chances this weekend.  We've struggled against the pass occasionaly, and since that's olaf's strength it doesn't bode well.  Alot depends on how bethel's pass d can hold up.  I think it's gonna be a great game, but fore the aforementioned reasons, and the fact that its at olaf, I give the oles a slight edge. I'd happily be wrong though.

I second that, great prediction esq.  I also agree with GoldandBlueBU. This will be a difficult game for us.

When we met with the priest this spring, he asked if there was any reason that I could not "perform sexually" for my future wife.

I was very tempted to say, "I wouldn't know.  I'm not married."  :D
