and i think you'll see from my illustrious stats, that I did really get to 'sit back and enjoy' our success

I was going to bring that up, but decided I was above such childish and immature behavior (not sure where that thought came from).

So you're saying the plants are yours?

No, that's one of the rare things not on my list of vices.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

SJU09

Two points stuck out for me:

1. No mention of the toughest team on their schedule...

2. But don't worry folks, we're scheduling easy beats for the next couple years because we no longer back ourselves.  Nice.

You shouldn't be surprised; this is the same school who didn't hire Mike Grant when they had the chance.  I'm glad they didn't, but boy was that stupid.

I can't decide if tommi is ROR, TDT, or Fins. So far I'm leaning towards Fins.

Only if Fins has had a drastic makeover....here's tommi...

Looks like an English prep school uniform or perhaps a Harry Potter casting shot. :P

it was a casting call, and i got the part!

im just glad i wasn't trying out for an alter boy position at st. john's.  or even worse, that of a teenage girl in the area  :D

Just had a quick look at the Tommie's game notes.  This pitiful excuse struck me:

Quote
--TOUGH SCHEDULE: In Coach Don Roney's era, St. Thomas has played one of Division III more challenging non-conference schedules. The Toms have had 14 games vs. Division II Bemidji State or strong Division III programs Central, St. Norbert, UW-Stout, Coe and Loras. The Toms are 2-12 in those games, but eight of the 12 losses are by a combined 51 points... In 2008 and 2009, the Tommies will play local teams Macalester (first game) and Northwestern (last game) to replace Central and Loras.

Two points stuck out for me:

1. No mention of the toughest team on their schedule...

2. But don't worry folks, we're scheduling easy beats for the next couple years because we no longer back ourselves.  Nice.
Easy Beats?  Macalester maybe.  We'll see.  My newest reason to pull for a tommie upset: Northwestern gains respect against a tough opponent after a victory over St. Thomas.

The score is still 0-0 folks. T-shirts and atmosphere don't win ball games. Whitewater and Mt. Union dreaming?  Sauer to Theisen all day.  Mark it a 7 Donny.

I agree, Theisen is gonna rock your world koolaid drinkers. i'm off to tiffany's sports bar and grill to score with hot tommie chicks.  have fun in collegeville

"I always love that one....."

Still reeling from a big setback in the Ramler era at Carleton last weekend.  Need a win this week or next.  Defense is getting pretty banged up, but the offense is getting better/healthier fast.  (Frank getting into game shape after almost 2 months of no activity and QB Henfling back this week after missing the last 2 1/2 games with a shoulder injury.  Probably not enough to win, but should be a bit more interesting.

Tommie/Johnnie game....  It's not even a topic of discussion outside of the stomping comments and Tommie Jokes.  Those are always fun.

Few weeks left until I officially might have to cheer for a St. Johns/Bens team.  I didn't think I would ever have to say that, but going to be on the women's bball bandwagon for a few years.

Actually, St. John's is named after St. John the Baptist, who was the patron saint of converts, among other things.

This is as a good a time as any to mention that, while good seats still remain, the Johnnie bandwagon is filling fast!

Cobber faithful, dejected Oles, the occasional rogue Auggie, Gustie, and Carlie--the time to pledge your temporary allegience is now!  Who isn't looking for another reason to root against St. Thomas and Bethel?  And face it, as much as you love your school, none of you have any chance of beating UW-Whitewater or Mount Union any time soon.

Added bonus:  As SJU's namesake, St. John the Baptist, welcomed converts with baptism by holy water, we welcome converts with the next best thing--Hamm's!

Hey TC...hospitality appreciated. SJU doesn't need my help vs. UST. As for Bethel, I've got a post on ice that should get your blessings.

Still, with the way Nelson has commandeered the Cobber offense as of late (unfortunately, the SJU game was by far the team's most anemic outing this year), and with the large number of non-senior key players, I'm optimistic that a CON versus UWW or Mt Union matchup is possible within the next 13 months.

Finally, John the Baptist is usually portrayed to be a bit "wild and crazy". Unfortunate he ended up one cranium too few. Baptism by Hamm's is an interesting concept. Actually, a local off-sale recently had something called Northern Lager at only $9.99 a 24-pk. Good for when you feel guilty indulging yourself with the richness that is Hamm's. Also, it comes from a brewery in Cold Spring, MN, wherever that is ;D
If the human brain were so simple that we could fully understand it...we would be so simple that we couldn't.

flash - Since I live about 8 miles from there, we're almost neighbors. Maybe we can meet in a cornfield near us some day soon. I wonder where exactly that is. I thought that one time I could smell the evil weed near the landfill east of the Hwy 11/Hwy 14 intersection (maybe I could have just said about two miles east of The Vegas Gentlemans Club, but I wasn't sure you'ld know where that was ;))

Redtooth

AO and Tommi,

Your talk of Theisen having a day and getting into the end zone is wishful thinking......For his stellar career at USTd the closest Theisen has gotten to the end zone was a sniff in 2004 from the 1.....could not score with less than a minute to go.....SJU defense stonewalls the USTd offense on 4 plays from the 1........shutout ;D ;D.  Career stats vs SJU 12 catches  160 yards.

If I was USTd I would be more worried about finding a way to run the ball effectively (75 total yards rushing 04,05,06 with 73 of those yards coming in 05).  I would also try and protect Sauer....he has been sacked 20 times in his career against SJU in three games :o :o :o  I would venture a guess that he has more DNA from the SJU defense than their girlfriends :-* :-*

Yeah, it would be a shame if that girl or her family went to the game to see what the Tommies are writing about her.  Or what you are writing here.

You are no longer anonymous, so people know who is writing what you write.  The words you have written belong to you.  You should have better judgment.

Easy Beats?  Macalester maybe.

On second thought, you're probably right, AO.  It may be wrong of me to label Mac an easy beat.  It may be they don't belong on that list.

NW, however...  Well, obviously, no list of easy beats would be complete without the Eagles, early victim of the resurgent Auggie Tech.
