And it was just on sportscenter as well. Their announcers were as amazed as everyone else.

I imagine the coach said it worked just the way they practiced it.

'The only thing a Prevent Defense does is prevent you from winning.'

I love how coaches put the prevent in late in a game.  I guess the defense you played throughout the game was not very good since it did not help you get the lead.  Play a nickel or dime if you want, but get some pressure on the QB.  The great players run under 4.5 flat.  You should be able to get some pressure on the QB during that time if your rush 4 and play sold D.  If you play a 3-4 base, then keep some LBs up to force the QB to stay in the pocket if needed.  There is generally not a RB remaining for help.

G&B - So, are your BU friends going to start talking smack about the SJU game this week, or after they play the Auggies first?    :-\

We'll see..I wouldn't be shocked to see it get ramped up this week, but I just get the feeling that I wouldn't be all that shocked for us to choke in the dome next weekend...which would end that banter...which would be unfortunate cause its alota fun.

Let's not get too excited here.  Rivalry games are notorious for generating weird results like the one out of Collegeville today.  Whatever issues the Johnnies D had today and against Olaf will probably be fixed by 10 November.  It is odd to see the J's giving up points and yards like they are at times this year, but it's WAY too early to start thinking that the Pool A bid will end up in Arden Hills.

This week makes me very nervous since it is the classic "trap game" scenario.  Playing in the mostly empty Dome is a weird environment, and Auggie may not be consistent this year but I think they're good enough to scare BU at the very least if the Royals have a sub-par practice week and game performance.  Gotta win the fights on the under-card before you can get to the main event.  We'll see what happens.

For those who haven't watched it, go to the front page and watch that last play of the Trinity victory today. I don't think the announcer was exagerrating when he called it maybe the most incredible finish in football history. A commenter on the youtube page counted 16 laterals.
Pretty amazing play. I think the guy who scored (Curry) handled the ball 5 or more times. Looked like all 28 Trinity fans got to watch it.

PHENOMENAL play! I would agree it is the best play I have ever seen! Looked more like a rugby play than football.

I would imagine they have practiced this, if you have ever watched much rugby, the way they lined up in a receding lateral line was straight out of a rugby match.
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

With today's attendance over 12,000 again we have pretty much assured a new season attendance record in terms of average per game.  If we somehow don't manage to get a home playoff game, we've averaged almost 10,000 fans per game this year.  The only way we could fall below the previous high average would be to have two playoff games at home and only have about 3,800 at each of them.  With two playoff games we also have a shot at the all time total attendance mark 58,465 which was done in 9 games

Thanks for the inside-the-numbers!  Nice work.  The crowds have been amazing.  It's nice to see all the students the last couple years have their own section.  I remember a lot of students not going to games when I was a student because there was not place to sit and watch the game with other students/friends.

Have to admit I haven't watched much rugby.  If the Misaps coach knew how Trinity was going to line up and attempt, how should he have defended it?

Ole Fan - Boy did you nail it with your coments on the "Prevent" defense. I actually had to karmalize you for that one. I doubt it will help you get in + territory though. Maybe I'll give you another just for being a LAX ref.

The loss of Wimmer hurt the Johnnie D big time.  Haven't heard his prognosis, but it did not look good.  Not having him in the middle left the middle screens wide open.

Ugly, ugly game, but a win.  We got lucky with a fast start and a USTD receiving crop that looked ridiculously bad in the first half.  I lost count of the number of balls that bounced off their hands.

We should thank our lucky stars we won that one.

Edit:  Looks like a dislocated elbow for Wimmer.  Better than I had thought, so I hope that's not too serious.

A tradition unrivaled...

In general I agree about the overuse of the prevent defense, but I remember a game up at a Concordia a while back where a bit of prevent might have helped the opposition.

Jimmy G. mentioned on the post game that he was concerned Wimmer might be out until the first or second week of the playoffs and I heard some other commentary that these types of injuries have sometimes been season ending, so let's hope for the best.  Sounds a lot more serious than dislocating a finger or a shoulder. (correction, unless it's your middle finger)
