Fins,
I am so proud of you, times like this I wonder if you and I aren't somehow related. From this point forward, I will refer to you as my 2nd cousin.
I'm proud to be related. I'm already looking forward to the family reunion.  8)

Just don't try to take any of our cousins home this year :o

STO must have won their "bye" game.  They moved back into the top 25.

I noticed that too.  A little strange to go from un-ranked to 23 after a bye week.

I have consistently complained about the penalties committed by Olaf, but that doesn't change the fact that they are my team.

Yeah, I've noticed you complaining... about the crazy SJU Photoshop skillz!!1!!11!

I am hear to discuss football with some intelligent people.

And where do we start with this statement???

I apologized for that issue with the Photoshop, but I did bring proof that it does happen.  I brought up some topics for discussion this week.  I am willing to discuss almost any football related topic.  I would even discuss the fact that SJU has been one of the most dominant football programs in the country, and why this trend continues today.  I actually have some very strong opinions on that topic, and they might actually shock some people.

I know Olaf has a good team, but that seems a little strange.  Maybe someone in the MIAC is switching votes to help the conference.  ;)  I seem to remember a Big 12 coach doing that a few years ago to help the Big 12.  I want to say it was Mack Brown.

I am here to discuss football with some intelligent people.  Can we move back to the football discussion?

You came to the wrong place son.
1st: this is our bye week. There will be lots of Hamm's talk, except for Ritz as he's only here for the blumpkin.
2nd: Football talk is pretty much Monday, Friday and Sunday. The rest of the time we talk about Hamm's and other important stuff, like mascots.
3rd: We like Hamm's and hate Tommies.

Any other questions ::)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I thought it was deer hunting week and Fins pulled some strings so there would be no fall dilemma.  I notice the 2008 and 2009 schedules are also set with the same strings.

I can hate the Tommies.  I am going to commit an act of treason, and admit that I have never had a Hamm's.  My parents have a friend in Dallas who raves about it, and he has asked for a case.  Please forgive me for this transgression.  I did have a honey beer from Cold Spring, MN that was absolutely awesome.  Similar to the Leine Honey Weiss, but much better.  If anyone knows the brewery let me know.  Is it acceptable for me to provide Shiner Bock.

Ok Mr Oil of Olay Fan, I can't take the suspense any longer.  What are your shocking opinions about why St John's has been one of the most dominant football programs in the country?

First of all it is OleFan.  Second of all I cannot spell the SJU Coach's name, and I don't want to show any disrespect.  The first thing is coaching.  I know that might not say much at the surface, but look at the consistency over they years.  I do not agree with his philosophy, but he wins.  I respect his record.  He keeps the kids he needs in state.  It is not about a national team, and that is why Olaf has had to move to other areas of the country.  Winning helps bring kids to the program.  I cannot think of any reason why a player would not want to win.  The few exceptions are kids that decide football is not in their future.  I have talked with some coaches in the MIAC (not just at Olaf) who feel that he probably gets players that could play for the U, and that is the U's problem.  He also treats people right.  I may not like him as a coach since he is my opponent, but I respect him.  I heard him a few years ago on a Dallas radio station, and he definitely showed that he was a man who strived to raise good young men.  I have met a few SJU football alumni who tell me that he is a strong role model.  I admire that in coach.  Also important is the commitment from the school.  SJU has made a commitment to athletics.  Other schools in the MIAC are not willing to take that step.  UST and Bethel have made the commitment with their athletic programs, but not to the extent of SJU.  Practice is also key.  How many people realize that SJU averages an extra year to year and a half of extra practice every year from the playoffs?  That is huge.

I don't know what the future holds for SJU.  Obviously the current coach will not be there forever, and I am interested to see if he has a successor chosen.  One thing is certain, SJU will never accept mediocrity.

The Gopher coaching staff needs to look at the success in Collegeville to learn how to build program.

I can get a parking spot once in a while, but I can't quite get SJU to quit scheduling Bethel when I'm going deer hunting. But I'm working on the DNR to move the deer hunting season to after the Stagg Bowl. ;)

bennie - I hope you were able to witness the thourough beat down of our faves, the Leafs by my Capitals. What made it even more satisfying was that most of the goals were scored by the grinders on the Caps.

Oh, yeah - the extra practice time.  John's practices run 90 minuntes - half the time of other teams.  So SJU probably practices, if they make the playoffs, about 60 to 65% of the time that other MIAC teams practice.

What the heck happened to eelpout ale? ???

I just saw your picks from last week tmerts. What do you know?  ;D

You were in the hunt even after starting a week late. Your sisters-in-law must've thrown you off your game. :D

The Eelpout Ale is very labor-intensive. Lately I've been lazy-intensive.

I don't know him, and I find it disrespectful to use his first name unless given permission.

I don't agree with all his nos that I read a few years ago in the program which was very well done.  I am a fan of longer practices with full contact.  I am from the South where things are different.  My high school team practiced over 21 hours a week at times.  That philosophy does not work for me, but it works for him.  I respect that.  Also note that it is not always the number of hours, but the number of practices.  The more contact between players and coaches the more time you have to work out issues.
