Being the family man that I am I told my wife today that I wasn't attending an SJU footgall game nor was I even going to listen to it on the radio.  She quickly replied, "Oh, they must be having a bye week."  My supposed "brownie points" quickly evaporated into thin air.

Veek;  My wife wears the Johnnie schedule on her wristband and then when she's giving me orders around the house she places here "chilly" like Perkins menu in front of her face so the kids can't read her lips.

Thanks, Veek, and also thanks to all the others who have said something nice.  And a special thanks to Dusty for offering me the opportunity.

When I told the trouble and strife (Aussie rhyming slang for wife) that it was a bye week, she did her first fist pump of the season.  And even better (or worse?) when I told her I had written something for JFC, she said, "Like what?  How I don't understand 'Johnnie football' and I'm always hassling you about how Sunday is a write-off?"  You would think I had learned by now, but I couldn't keep my mouth shut.  "Sounds almost like you read it already," I said.

They just announced the score - Olaf 71  Carleton 28 - 10 minutes left in the game.  Barn-burner!
Out of order, I'll show you out of order! You don't know what out of order is, Mr Task! I'd show you but I'm too old, I'm too tired, and I'm too f----n blind. If I were the man I was 5 years ago, I'd take a FLAMETHROWER to this place. Out of order, who the hell do you think you're talking to?

OzJohnnie

It's now 84 - 28, STO.  Looks like two more TDs in the last 10 minutes.

I assume there will be no more 'Johnnies running up the score' discussions around here.

BTW, Carleton's live updates scoreboard is the best I have ever seen.  Really top notch.  It would be nice if SJU added that to their game stable.

Well, the Cobbers top the Gusties today 34-24 to finish the season 7-3. OUCH for the triple OT loss to Bethel and the inches from victory outing at the Oles.

As for rivalries, I don't think anything in the MIAC comes close to the SJU-UST bash. My take on the Concordia perspective: the "Lut-Bowl" would be versus St. Olaf. Of course, Moorhead is so geographically isolated from the rest of the conference, it is hard to have a natural rival. Still, this one has the Norwegian roots angle from both schools (though one could argue an Ole-Norsk versus Gustie-Swede matchup is also good for brewing rivalry.

Hate to say it, but it really goes back to the choirs, with F. Melius Christianson, choir master from Olaf, having the two sons who end up at Concordia as choir director (PJ) and football coach (Jake).

Concordia and St. Olaf football may not be a huge rivalry, but in my days at Concordia, that was the only school that really came up in discussion as a rival (even if it was a brotherly rivalry)

I'd be interested in hearing from the other Lutheran schools on the rivalry issue.
If the human brain were so simple that we could fully understand it...we would be so simple that we couldn't.

The STO and GAC rivalry is definitely the largest Lutheran school rivalry as I know the schools are very often competing for the same kids ('cept we don't recruit Florida), are fairly close in location, and there is the competing heritages as well.  Although athletically the competition hasn't been the stiffest in any sport lately. :-\
I like to picture my Jesus singing lead vocals for Lynard Skynard with like a band of Angels behind him, and I'm in the front row HAMMERED drunk!!!

Ouch, even with suspended players....you've got to be kidding me.

Well, at least the Tommies get $60M even if they have a vacuum like effect on the world  ;D
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I noticed that Duff posted that his partner caught it, but when he posted the picture it was they who had caught it.  Sounds fishy to me ;D ;D ;D

He caught it.  I provided location, knowledge, and netting skills. :P
How do you net something like that or is it not as big as it looks?  Maybe OleFan Photoshopped it for you?

You should always long arm your fish when taking pictures.

Touchdown Tommy

Is Roney finally on the ropes after that sheer debacle at UST today?  I mean if not then nothing can force the hand of Steve Fritz and the administration at St. Thomas.

FYI: Our buddies Linfield went down and eliminated themselves from playoff contention for the 2nd consecutive year.  Ho hum ho hum.

And Notre Dame falls to Navy for the first time since 1963 and it was AT South Bend.  Wow.

85-28 Olaf over Carleton.  It was 29-28 Olaf at the half.  The final touchdown came from a Senior who rarely gets to play.  He intercepted a pass and took it to the house with under 30 seconds to play.  There was a lot of off the field drama at this game.

SUMMIT!!!!!

the last TD may be a "feel good" senior moment, but when your starting QB is in the game in the 4th Qtr and hands off on the play that makes it 71-28, that's bush league. I dont care if it is a rivalry game or whatever excuse can be offered, its totally uncalled for and reeks.
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.
