Meidt is despicable.  I passed the info on to my wife and she was appalled.  That is total lack of class.  First, and this should be highly thought of.  How do you only bring two QB's to a game.  That is the one position you never take the chance on being short of.  IF his reason for only bringing two was that he was confident he had someone else he could have put in "just in case" then that person should have been in.  I'm not going after Olefan here, just using his first hand experience to further my point.

Quote from: OleFan on November 03, 2007, 08:21:30 PMMost of the points did come with a short field or on turnovers.

There is now way the drive starting at 12:41 started with a short field as the 49 yard pass indicates there was plenty of field to use- RUNNING THE BALL!!!!!!!!

Tom Porter, Bob Gelle, Dave Hauck, Don Canfield, Paul Miller, must be ashamed of being associated with St. Olaf College.  I've already left a message on my Dad's voicemail trying to vent my total disgust at the current Olaf program.  The Ole football teams of yore were a bunch of smart, classy guys that never had tons of talent (with the exception of the Steve Ryan/Bryan Sprout era).  Unfortunately, this current program talks more trash than any other team in the conference and obviously that comes from the top on down.  There is no way someone like Don Canfield or Tom Porter would have ever done anything like what Meidt did today, and it saddens me to see a program that once was viewed as a class program turn into the bunch of trash-talking, respectless bunch they've become.

I'm sure Meidt won't ever read this, but it should be known that Olaf's image in this conference has taken a HUGE hit in the eyes from someone that always respected and secretly loved the Black and Old Gold.  I cannot ever side with this disgusting group and the horrible leadership that runs it.

My opinion, not my dad's.  But something I will tell anyone associated with this current trash of a regime.

Today at St. Peter was a pretty sloppy game where the officials thought they were getting paid by the hour so they decided to throw flags all day long.  But overall a good last win of the season for the cobbers.  I am expecting big things next year for my cobbs.

LAB,
Very well said abot the stolaf football program.  What is medit trying to prove by running up the score on kids who are playing the game for fun.  This isn't to get money to play in a big time bowl game.  It's a game to have fun and not humilate players, coaches and fans.  After hearing of the game today I could only hope that the battle of the troll be won by the cobbers next season and then abolished only because of the lack of class that sto brings to the respectable MIAC conference.  The MIAC is classy in my opinion and sto has to be the bad apple of the bunch.  I feel bad for both teams and coaches today.

We will see everyone on Monday.

To all Gustie faithful out there...I was unable to make it down to St. Peter today, but was fortunate to be able to catch much of the game on streaming video online. The announcers made some references to things getting "chippy" in the second half, but it seems it was nothing compared to what was happening in Northfield  :o

As far as the play-by-play announcers go, could someone let them know that when they go to (audio) commercial break on the video broadcast, the commercial is faint (thankfully) but we continue to hear every comment? There was nothing ugly, but there were a few references to things such as starting games poorly all season, abandoning the run in the second half, and one with about 8 minutes to go at 34-17, "we can't really come back at this point" or something very similar. The tone was quite defeatist.

As a Cobber fan, I was diggin'it, but this was the Gustavus broadcast.

Just thought you'd want to know.

BINGO!  I can't imagine a team traveling with less than 3 QBs.

Meidt for president of the classless asshole club!

Ah Duffman, I believe I hold that title until the Board of Directors says otherwise.  I think we could appoint Chris Meidt as Chairman if there is a consensus.

85 points.  That is a lot.  There will be a day when Ramler gets sweet revenge as the Head Coach at SJU and throws up 70+ on the Oles.  Payback is a bich.  Meidt is a scumbag.

No campaign nor election necessary...he's risen to president by hostile takeover despite being unopposed.

I have met members of your family from my time at Olaf, and I greatly respect them.  Your dad's class flat out rocked.  I think your opinions show some of the bigger problems with the game.  I did see a few of the families that you mentioned at the game today, but was not able to talk to them.  I did not see any of the former football coaches, and I would like to hear from Coach Porter or Dimmick about this game.  Many of the Ole players are great people, and I don't think they deserve to be called classless if unless you know them personally.  In the words of the Oklahoma St. coach, go after the coach.

Do the rest of the Johnnie faithful agree that Ramler will be the next head coach at SJU?  I think he is a great coach.

OleFan-

You are correct.  That is my fault in ripping all associated/part of this current roster.  I do not know them personally, and therefore am dead wrong in lumping them into this tirade.  It cannot at all be put onto them.  In fact, I haven't heard anything specifically wrong with any of the guys.  There is much more trash talking coming from the Olaf crew compared to the time I spent there as the ball boy (decades ago!) but that may be more indicative of the state of the game, rather than the specific players at Olaf.  So, you are correct, and I was dead wrong to link them all as bad people.   My comments do hold and I will stand by them in regards to Meidt.  I am disappointed by the amount of trash talking that comes from the black and old gold (especially BEFORE the 3 games we played against them!) but, again, that might be just me getting old!  I appoligize to the Olaf team for linking them with the joke of a leader they possess!
Out of order, I'll show you out of order! You don't know what out of order is, Mr Task! I'd show you but I'm too old, I'm too tired, and I'm too f----n blind. If I were the man I was 5 years ago, I'd take a FLAMETHROWER to this place. Out of order, who the hell do you think you're talking to?

I figured that there would be a long list of posts about the STO-CC game. I was there today and I will say that the superfan drama is a little more than just STO fans being jerks. First off, if you're going to talk about fans being jerks, then maybe you should also talk about how the CC superfans ran by in a group early in the game and a couple of them began to flick off our whole crowd. Then, you might also want to recall the CC fan that punched a friend of mine in the face as he was running a lap around the field with the STO superfans. The security response was to tell the STO superfans that the laps were now off limits despite the mark on my friends face from getting sucker punched. I will say that security made the right call, I just feel that they should have told the CC superfans that the track was off limits as well instead of replying "they can because they're the cheer boys".

In terms of running up the score, you can think what you want about it but know that the last few scores in the 4th came from backups. You can't blame them for taking it to the house if it's there. CC was airing it out still so they may have felt they were still in the game and they should have. They should give their best until the last whistle blows. The bottom line is that the it is the job of the defense to stop the opposing offense no matter what the score. I was on that Olaf team back in '05 that got absolutely blown out by SJU in Collegeville. It was our fault on defense for not stopping them, not the fault of their offense for continuing to play and score TDs. I never once thought less of SJU because of it.

In regard to the roster and lack of QBs, the second string QB is out due to his knee and this year the CC head coach only allowed STO the 55 player travel roster limit instead of the full team agreement that the schools have had in the past.  For the record, they brought 3 QBs...Olefan get your facts straight before you start posting.

Finally, in terms of the STO program being a bunch a classless players and coaches, I guess you're entitled to your own opinion. But lets be real for a second...do you really think that no other schools in the MIAC do any trash talking? Furthermore, do you honestly believe that Meidt encourages trashing talking? Do you think he tells his players that it's okay? Take it from me there are always consequences...ask any Ole player from back in '03 about the 30 sprints we ran one practice after the STO-CC game that year because of trash talking. My point is that it's football and anyone that has actually played knows that there are many things that get said on that field on BOTH sides in any given game. I'm not saying that makes it right but lets not act like STO invented trash talking because I can recall incidents from every single team I've played in the MIAC, ESPECIALLY in heated rivalry games like the one in Northfield today. Every team has its trash talkers, let's not judge a whole group because of it.

STO had 64 points on the board and Penz was STILL THROWING to Gant -- in the 4th quarter? Unbelievable.

Edited to minimize redundancy as I catch up ...

Was at the Stout UWW game today and, while I'm certainly not a football analyst, and even I can see that UWW does have a pretty good defense, they do look to be beatable. :o

I did not see the other issues with the Ole fans.  I did hear some of them, but I did not see them.  My bigger point is that they ran on the track after being asked to refrain from doing so.  It would be nice to keep it consistent for all fans.  The rented security was horrible today, and most of the blame needs to be on them for what happened.  I hope Carleton learns from this game, and does not hire that firm again.

I knew Haberman was out due to injury.  I saw Tyler Hart play, but I was not sure who would replace him in a game.  My best guess is that what would be the 4th QB or 3rd in this game would be a first year that might not be ready for this stage.  You don't kill your back up QB's confidence by playing him in a rivalry game late in a season.  If something bad happens he might never recover.  He has not run the Varsity this year, and that is not fair to him.  I assumed that Schmeising could play QB in an emergency since he holds.

I agree that you still have to stop the other team.  It is also hard to control some of the turnovers that lead to scores.  That being said, I have heard of coaches negotiating how the game would end during blowouts.  One team approaches the other to see if they can run the clock down and keep the scoring down.  Does this happen in the MIAC?

I do talk with players from other schools.  I have to with my various jobs.  I have developed strong friendships at most MIAC schools, and I have heard from various individuals about problems with Coach Meidt.  Some of those are biased for multiple reasons.  I have my opinions on him and his personal life (away from football) that I keep away from this board.  I think most people have a problem with Meidt consistently out scoring his opponents by large margins.  I think he might be considered by some to be the Barry Switzer of the MIAC.  (note the I thinks)  My biggest problem with everything that happened today is that this rivalry used to be a lot of fun, and I don't see that anymore.  I have walked in to that stadium with a case of beer and had great fun with students from both schools.  I have been given beer from Carleton students in the past at this game.  I did not get one beer at the game this year.  It just seems like the rivalry is not fun anymore.

KitchenSink

85-28.  Wow.

In looking at the play list from the game, most plays looked like they may not have been too over the top - except for that 49 yard pass.

My only question would be - was it a 5 yard pass and a missed tackle, then a long run?  Or was it a deep rainbow?  That would make a big difference .....
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Gosh, I wish the SJU profs had been as concerned for me my first semester as Coach Meidt apparantly is for his frosh QB.  Maybe then they wouldn't have all given me four C's and ruined my dream of being a 4.0.  Still have obviously not recovered from that tragedy. :'(
