As far as red (or Royal) cups what did we do last time?

We're not going to get chastised for drinking?

KR and I were very secretive last time ;)

The closest I cam to being secretive that game was when I peed behind a pine tree!

NEWSFLASH!!

KR will be in attendance this weekend!!!

Happy belated B-day to the king of the blindsided trap block, FrankRickard!
+k to all the regulars, -k to anyone cheering for a team that almost lost to Auggie Tech :)
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Man, this fall back stuff is rough.  I'm ready for my Sunday afternoon nap and it's only 10:15.

KR: Do I need to bring 20oz Mountain Dew bottles to drink my cold refreshing Hamm's out of?  I do recall quite vividly talking to you and Duffman on the phone during the Stiftungsfestivities last time it was at Bethel.  You weren't very coherrent.

PRF2007 - Can you explain to me the logic that would cause you to say that extra security "just causes people to get rowdy."? I would guess then that people who go to all you can eat buffets eat less, or reading ten newspapers leads one to be less informed.  WHAT?

Do coaches ever make gentlemanly deals to keep scores down in MN?  If anyone has insight on this topic I would be interested to know.  I have seen it in other states and up through the college level.  I know I keep posting this, but I have never gotten an answer.

Not sure about making deals on the score, but I have it from a good source that the new coaches for the gophers and vikings made deals with the outgoing coaches to suck more than they did.

Carleton v. OLAF from Carleton POV

Extra security at the game was stupid and just causes people to get rowdy.  Kicking the kids out from Olaf for running around the track was even worse.  I did not think they were doing anything wrong or being disrespectful.  There were between 6 and 8 security guards at this game to "keep control".  The security's help was needed one time during the game.  That was when a kid running fell 6 steps of stairs head first in to a wall. (Do not want to elaborate, I was 10 feet from it and it was not a pretty sight)  But, the fire lane was blocked and the ambulance had to wait about 10 min to get to the kid.  I would think that would be securities number 1 priority!

Now, on to the game.  The first half was great to watch and it is too bad the score got so out of hand, becuase the carlies were playing some great ball the first half.  Henfling and Frank were unstoppable.  The whole running up the score thing got out of control.  A lot of it was fine and due to many mistakes by Carleton.(2 interception returns for TDs)  The unexcusable call was throwing it up to Gant for the 60 yard bomb (no it was not a screen play)  I think the coach was trying to prove a point that Gant is a better receiver than Frank for Carleton.  Gant was thrown to more than just the 60 yard bomb in the 2nd half.  60 yard catch or not, I believe anyone in attendance saw who the better receiver was.  Not that this battle was going to have any result on this game.

Great first half of football by the Carlies.  As for the Oles, it's too bad the coach couldn't save a few of those points for the important games he seems to always lose.

Thanks for the insights from Carleton on the game.  I appreciate hearing from you guys on this game.  I have always had good experiences with many of the Carleton faithful at athletic events.  Best of luck against Gustavus, and I will see y'all in basketball season where a reversal of the score could happen.  I have not seen the team this year, but I know they lost a lot on a team that always seems to underacheive.

As I posted on another board.......the "classy" i.e. Larry Kehres/Mount Union way to handle a blowout is to pull the starters early....run only basic run plays after that.....and kick field goals when getting close to the goal line late (beginning of 4th quarter for Mount this year) in the game.

If a kid breaks a long run...so be it.  But LK doesn't want or need to pound anyone worse than Mount is already doing so.  Take a look at the carries Kmic has vs. Beaver from WW.  Enough said.

Now you Johnnies just take care of business this week so the match-up down the road in the playoffs remains a possibility.  I know you will probably have to go through WW to make that a reality, but I have faith you can get it done.   ;)

I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to why the entire Olaf team did not travel to Carleton yesterday?  Usually in MIAC rivalries there are games when the entire team is allowed to travel, not just the usual 60.  I know Meidt is not a guy to leave players behind just because, especially when it is literally 2 minutes away.  I'm guessing this had to be a decision by the dirty Carls.  Discuss amongst yourselves  ;)

CBC17,
I heard that it was Ramler's call, but I don't know for sure.

At the Ole-CC game Olaf's fans were not allowed on the track, but CC fans were, when asked why this was the case, security replied "because it's home-field advantage".  When one of the Carleton fans punched an Ole fan in the face, the Ole fan was told by security to stop creating problems. And when some fans ran a lap around the track at the end of the third quarter, they were ejected.  They were told that they would be kicked out for being on the track, but at that point, the game was over anyway, and they went with it.

Olefan,
who told you that those students were banned from Carleton's campus?

In regards to running up the score...   it happens.  sucks for carleton.

in regards to trash-talking...    I'm with THE HAMMER on this one, every school has trash talkers, not just Olaf.

Yesterday the OLES footballers were the victors, but from today until the end of Meidt's tenure they will always be the a$$hOLES in the minds of all those who care about what DIII football should represent.

You mention the BC(U)/Carleton game from 2001, but you fail to point out some important distinctions.  While the final touchdowns in both games were interceptions returned for TDs, key difference is who was playing while the last 3-4 TDs were scored.
In 2001 for Bethel the last 28 points were scored by freshmen (see below) and the one before that was a long run by Mike Johnson with 10 minutes left in the 3rd Q.
  3rd Q 01:35 BC - Zack Ludvigson 34 yd pass from Tom Lachermeier (Paul Tschetter kick), 3-50 0:44, CARLETON 2 -           BC 55
  4th 08:30 BC - Jesse Dick 44 yd run (Ryan Davis kick), 4-56 1:28, CARLETON 2 - BC 62
   06:16 BC - Andrew Wright 69 yd run (Ryan Davis kick), 2-69 0:45, CARLETON 2 - BC 69
01:21 BC - Brian Pierce 95 yd interception return (Ryan Davis kick), , CARLETON 2 - BC 76

While I think the Bethel game score got out of hand, I can attest that during the final TD int return Coach J was yelling, as Pierce ran down the opposite sideline, for Brian to take a knee.

But you're right, the common thread between the two games, Chris Meidt.

I didn't know it was such a tough subject to understand.  A division 3 football game where the home crowd for carleton usually averages a fan base of parents and 5-10 students.  The other team brought about 40 students.   Now, I know from my younger days, when you see a rent-a-cop, it gets you a little amped up and makes you want to act out.  Example of this is when the Ole fans got kicked out for nothing.  They sat in the parking lot and the Ole crowd was going crazy yelling back and forth with the kids that got kicked out.  when the score of the game was 80-28.  Had the elite force of rentacops not been there I do not think things would have gotten so out of control.  Also, it would have saved my grandma from having to get her bag searched for booze.  Apparently she couldn't carry in her ice cold Beer 30 light.(an actual fine beer sold is northfield and brewed in Lacrose, WI.  Any time is the right time, Beer 30).  Who would have known.

On matters of travel, I'll be in San Francisco from the 11th to the 16th this month.  Anyone posting on this board live out that way (tmerton, you live if NoCal or SoCal?)?  I'd be happy to spend a night drinking and eating and drinking if you're up to it.  Unfortunately, I'm in China on the 19th so I can't zip out to MN for the first round of the playoffs (knock on wood).

Woah, OJ - just saw this (I was in SoCal on F and Sat and am just catching up - good thing there wasn't an SJU game or I'd have had 30 pages to read) - I'm in NoCal and will be around - expect a PM.

Every school may have trashtalkers, but it still is a matter of degree and of what is tolerated.  It starts at the top.  And I'll bet the Johnnies do less of it than anyone else precisely for that reason.
