JR-ok, I was worried you were taking Redlands for granted and decided only a short tailgate was necessary. :D
Duff-did you really miss that much last weekend?

I wouldn't say I missed it, but I didn't see most of the game.

To add to that frustration and the fact that we lost, someone locked my car and then put the keys in her sister's car, who by the time the game was over was on her way to St. Cloud.  So, we had to hitch a ride back to our house and get spare keys.  Then, upon return to BU, the wonderful Ramsey Co Sheriffs would not let us get to my car, even though we could all plainly see it from Snelling.  I had to traverse a few backyards to recover my auto.  Rough day for Duff.

A tradition unrivaled...

Johnnie Fans -

I feel your pain. To lose in the last minute to evil tears at you. I felt my spleen was ripped out and eaten right before my eyes Saturday. Then, when I was listening to your game on the radio on the way home from the Monon Bell viewing party at Bar Abilene, I felt for you all.

Good luck in the playoffs!

This collection of mishaps add further evidence to my assertion that despite having a nice oak tree within a short walking distance of the tailgate party BU is the most inhospitable campus in the conference.   :'(

We arrived about 11:15 and they wouldn't let us to the SoHo lot (which was fine. Upon walking over there, we saw that it was full) and instead directed us to a lot that was also completely full. We followed the lead of another Johnnie-driven VW and extended a row. My car was still there when we returned, so I guess that was alright.

I was surprised that I didn't get hassled for carrying my cooler o' brew across campus to the tailgate, though. Even the SJU Rent-a-cops have bugged us about carrying beer in the past. Go figure.

About the only positive result of the game was the fact that a brisk walk to the parking lot was rewarded with no traffic whatsoever to get off that despicable campus. I'm now 0-3 in my visits to Bethel. *&^#%
Nice day, huh?

Duff, consider the day a character builder.  I'd give you a few sympathy k's if I could.  Even though I was there at 10:45 I ended up parking in a spot that was so awkward I half expected to come back and find a flat tire with a piece of rebar sticking into it.  Anyone out there park in the shuttle lot?  How bad was that?

Wow, I'm still in shock about getting a home game on Saturday.  Johnnie Nation has to be happy.

Congrats to Bethel on a good win.  The game didn't strike me as a well played affair but like some others, it was tough to watch standing in the corner of the endzone.  It'll be interesting to see if Bethel can get their first playoff win this year.  I think most people are predicting it so does that just add more pressure?

The SJU offense looked lost throughout the game.  No big plays with the exception of the Weber touchdown that conveniently happened right in front of us.  The guys need to get better execution next week or they'll be in trouble.

Pre-game was great, thanks to everyone for the hospitality.  Nice to meet some of the guys and I look forward to meeting more this coming week.  Bring on the cold for those nice Southern boys!!

Also, as long as we're giving advice to Bethel officials, double/triple the number of porta-pods next time.  Left at half time to take a pee with a promise to bring the Mrs, who only moved once in 4.5 hours, some hot chocolate.  Yea, right,  I had to do a drive-through p!ss just to get back by the second half kickoff.

We did the shuttle, and it went well.  They must've ran about 15 busses ao there was no waiting.  It was a bit slow getting out after the game, but all in all it was easy and convenient.

Touchdown T checking in for duty.  I am alive and well.  Saturday was stressful.

Details/Lack Thereof from the Saturday evening festivities in DownTown MPLS to come.  Let's just say I have pics of Frank Rickard and Ritzy in rare form.  Apologize to the Veekster for the call at 2:50a.m. from Frank Rickard as he picked up my cellphone and went wild.  Same to the Mayor who ANSWERED his phone around 3:30a.m. and Frank R nearly shat himself.  Mayslack's will never be the same fellas.

Actually it was 3:47 a.m., at which time I was in the deepest of slumbers. When hunting, I use my phone for an alarm and it happened to be plugged in across the room from me. When it rang, my first thought was "5:45 already?" then realized it was my ringtone, not my alarm tone so I stumbled to the phone, answered and heard my name and some mumbling then a hangup. Thanks for thinking of me, fellas. :D

FYI, the d3 guys reflect on Bethel's inability "to get it up" after SJU games ... on the podcast. :)

I am most honored to know that I was included in the same shenanigans that were also pulled on our beloved Mayor.  To be in the same company with the creator of "The Sizzle", albeit a late night prank, brings a sense of accomplishment in my life.

I'll be there by 8 am on Saturday to get the party started.  I'm usually there by 8 am when the kickoff is at 1 pm so I may have to try and show up a little earlier as I don't want to lose an entire hour of tailgating.
Go Johnnies!!!

I have been around Johnnie Football for 3 months.  John has been Johnnie Football for 55 years.  I like our chances on Saturday.

How many consecutive losses have the Johnnies suffered in the last decade?  We have coaches who will rebound and give this 2007 squad a gameplan that will be successful.  I look for crisp offensive play and mistake free special teams.  I am sure our opponent has a great team, we have a great team (9-1) we have John.  We have the Johnnie D.  They have been solid every game.

Good luck to both the Royals and Johnnies, maybe a rematch with 15,000 people watching MIAC football.

If 15K show up to Bethel...only 6 to 8K will see it...Bethel needs to spend some endowment or a major fundraising campaign on the fb facility...its weak.

Veek, the officials blew the blocked FG call...J's should have had the ball on the 4

Hey Bulldog fans before you start talking about coming to Clemens and beating the J's remember the 6 turnovers that SJU gave you in that game in 2002 as others have said its new teams and a new season.

The J's have to like the draw overall, I know I do, I see a Bethel UWEC matchup in the second round that could go either way and if it goes to the BluGolds, a nice home matchup for the J's in the West Region Finals, IF the J's take care of business...

I would have to agree. The rule book is here. The field goal section in its entirety looks like this:
QuoteSECTION 4. Field Goal
Next Play—ARTICLE 2
Approved Ruling 8-4-2

I. Fourth and eight on Team B’s 40-yard line. Team A’s attempted field goal is touched by B1 at Team B’s 10-yard line and rolls out of the end zone. RULING: Touchback.
II. Fourth and eight on Team B’s 40-yard line. Team A’s attempted field goal is touched and downed by Team B at the five-yard line. RULING: Team B’s ball at Team B’s five-yard line.
III. Fourth and eight on Team B’s 40-yard line. Team A’s untouched field goal attempt rolls dead on Team B’s seven-yard line. RULING: Team B’s ball at Team B’s 40-yard line.
IV. Fourth and eight on Team B’s 40-yard line. Team A’s untouched field goal attempt strikes the ground in the end zone and bounces out to the three-yard line, where it is touched by B1. RULING: Team B’s ball at Team B’s 40-yard line (Rule 6-3-9-a).
V. Fourth and eight on Team B’s 40-yard line. Team A’s attempted field goal touches B1 at the 10-yard line and goes out of bounds at the five-yard line. RULING: Team B’s ball at Team B’s five-yard line.
VI. Fourth and eight on Team B’s 40-yard line. Team A’s field goal attempt is blocked or touched at the line of scrimmage and goes out of bounds, untouched beyond the neutral zone, at Team B’s 25-yard line. RULING: Team B’s ball at Team B’s 40-yard line.
VII. Fourth and eight on Team B’s 40-yard line. Team A’s attempted field goal strikes the ground at the three-yard line and bounces into the end zone, where it is received in the air and then downed by a Team B player. RULING: Team B’s ball at the 20-yard line.
VIII. Fourth and eight on Team B’s 18-yard line. Team A’s unsuccessful field goal attempt goes out of the end zone. RULING: Team B’s ball at the 20-yard line.
IX. Team A’s unsuccessful field goal attempt strikes the ground beyond the neutral zone and bounces back across the neutral zone, where it is recovered by B1 and advanced into the end zone. RULING: Touchdown (Rule 6-3-5).
X. Fourth and six on Team B’s 18-yard line. Team A’s unsuccessful field goal attempt strikes the ground beyond the neutral zone and bounces back across the neutral zone to Team B’s 28-yard line, where it goes out of bounds or is recovered and downed by either team. The kick is untouched beyond the neutral zone. RULING: Team B’s ball, first and 10 at Team B’s 28-yard line (Rules 6-3-5 and 6-3-7).

As best as I can tell, only rule II. applies. I haven't dug through the rule book to see if there are any special cases and don't really intend to.
Nice day, huh?
