I have been around Johnnie Football for 3 months.  John has been Johnnie Football for 55 years.  I like our chances on Saturday.

How many consecutive losses have the Johnnies suffered in the last decade?  We have coaches who will rebound and give this 2007 squad a gameplan that will be successful.  I look for crisp offensive play and mistake free special teams.  I am sure our opponent has a great team, we have a great team (9-1) we have John.  We have the Johnnie D.  They have been solid every game.

Good luck to both the Royals and Johnnies, maybe a rematch with 15,000 people watching MIAC football.

If 15K show up to Bethel...only 6 to 8K will see it...Bethel needs to spend some endowment or a major fundraising campaign on the fb facility...its weak.
The J's have to like the draw overall, I know I do, I see a Bethel UWEC matchup in the second round that could go either way and if it goes to the BluGolds, a nice home matchup for the J's in the West Region Finals, IF the J's take care of business...

Another endorsement of the "spotty" treatment SJU fans are awarded.  I mean, c'mon, BU knew there'd be tons of people there... they invested the time to get people there so they could collect their admission but did squat in providing a place to view the game.  Rip-off!   :P

I hadn't thought about EC in Collegeville but I like it!   :)

I think the committee gave the Royals the best matchup they could receive in the first round, maybe even better than what Central got...after looking at CUW and the blowout loss to the 3rd or 4th place team in IB, it wonj't matter how good on D they are...they could get stomped

I would love to see an All-MIAC West Region Final with 15 inches of snow falling in the cities the week of the game making Royals Stadium unplayable, so do we go to the Dome or perhaps to Collegeville...ooops naptime is over, back to work ;D

I would have to agree. The rule book is here. The field goal section in its entirety looks like this:
QuoteSECTION 4. Field Goal
Next Play—ARTICLE 2
Approved Ruling 8-4-2

VI. Fourth and eight on Team B’s 40-yard line. Team A’s field goal attempt is blocked or touched at the line of scrimmage and goes out of bounds, untouched beyond the neutral zone, at Team B’s 25-yard line. RULING: Team B’s ball at Team B’s 40-yard line.

Why doesn't this apply?  The Johnnie coaches, I believe, were arguing that the ball was touched at the line of scrimmage, then downed beyond the neutral zone.  The Johnnie defender did not advance the ball (see the box score), so it should be brought back as is the same as the example.  Had BU recovered the blocked field goal it wasn't going to be their ball first and ten, for example.  And why do you penalize a team for blocking a field goal, then having to deal with the consequences as to where the ball ends up?

The mistake, then, was that the ball should have been reset to the 12, which was the line of scrimmage before the kick, and not the 4; nor to the 20.

I read that to mean that the ball went untouched AND out of bounds. ???

I. Fourth and eight on Team B's 40-yard line. Team A's attempted field goal is touched by B1 at Team B's 10-yard line and rolls out of the end zone. RULING: Touchback.
II. Fourth and eight on Team B's 40-yard line. Team A's attempted field goal is touched and downed by Team B at the five-yard line. RULING: Team B's ball at Team B's five-yard line.
III. Fourth and eight on Team B's 40-yard line. Team A's untouched field goal attempt rolls dead on Team B's seven-yard line. RULING: Team B's ball at Team B's 40-yard line.
IV. Fourth and eight on Team B's 40-yard line. Team A's untouched field goal attempt strikes the ground in the end zone and bounces out to the three-yard line, where it is touched by B1. RULING: Team B's ball at Team B's 40-yard line (Rule 6-3-9-a).
V. Fourth and eight on Team B's 40-yard line. Team A's attempted field goal touches B1 at the 10-yard line and goes out of bounds at the five-yard line. RULING: Team B's ball at Team B's five-yard line.

VII. Fourth and eight on Team B's 40-yard line. Team A's attempted field goal strikes the ground at the three-yard line and bounces into the end zone, where it is received in the air and then downed by a Team B player. RULING: Team B's ball at the 20-yard line.
VIII. Fourth and eight on Team B's 18-yard line. Team A's unsuccessful field goal attempt goes out of the end zone. RULING: Team B's ball at the 20-yard line.
IX. Team A's unsuccessful field goal attempt strikes the ground beyond the neutral zone and bounces back across the neutral zone, where it is recovered by B1 and advanced into the end zone. RULING: Touchdown (Rule 6-3-5).
X. Fourth and six on Team B's 18-yard line. Team A's unsuccessful field goal attempt strikes the ground beyond the neutral zone and bounces back across the neutral zone to Team B's 28-yard line, where it goes out of bounds or is recovered and downed by either team. The kick is untouched beyond the neutral zone. RULING: Team B's ball, first and 10 at Team B's 28-yard line (Rules 6-3-5 and 6-3-7).

As best as I can tell, only rule II. applies. I haven't dug through the rule book to see if there are any special cases and don't really intend to.
This is cool.  Have never seen any of the rulebook before.  Do they carry one of these with them on field?  Looks like you almost have to be an idiot savant to referee a college football game. ;D

BTW, who keeps dinging me on karma?  What have I said lately that deserves a -k?

The White Silly

Actually talking seriously here and not silly...incredibly exciting game on Saturday in Arden Hills...phenomenal atmosphere...from start to finish it was a game you couldn't help but be completely caught up in...I was most impressed with the line play of Bethel on both sides of the ball...Bethel's O-line is powerful, relentless and athletic (Wetzell and Flannery gotta overflow with confidence being behind those guys)...I think the Johnnies got flat out beat up and pushed around by a much more physical and disciplined team on Sat...But, I have no doubt the Johnnies will turn it around, learn from there mistakes, and come ready and find success in the playoffs, they are to well coached not to... when first thinking about it, the Johnnie's play calling seemed to be uncharacteristic and seemingly getting away from there usual more pass oriented offense (which has always impressed me, especially the way they use there backs out of the backfield to find soft spots), but as I reflected on the game a bit more, I completely understand why they stuck with the run game and tried to beat Bethel at there own ball control game on Sat. (save a few money throws, Kofoed had some great football globetrotters going on out there with all the no look passes and bad decisions, I think he might've matched Peyton had they aired it out much more on Sat....I found myself saying out loud on several of his passes "Are you serious?"... also SJU had a lead and there Defense hadn't allowed Bethel offense into the end zone the whole game til' the end, so I think it was wise for them to attempt to do some ball control of there own with the way their D was holding up, although they had to have been exhausted and frustrated with the amount of time they spent on the field and that no doubt takes a bigger toll than people realize, I don't think they obviously should turn into a Wishbone 31 Dirt offense, but given all the factors on Sat: weather, Kofoed's no looks, Bethel's constant hurries on Kofoed, the solid play of their Defense, holding on to a lead and not wanting Kofoed to throw a behind the back pass the other way for 6, etc...I understand why they went that route and think it gave them the best chance to win) Maybe the comparison has already been made, but Kofoed reminds me of  Brett Favre in a lot of ways...you never know what you're gonna get, I'll give him credit he's a solid QB, but I'd take Ben "Tim Tebow" Wetzell any day of the week...the kids a Killer...anyways, the fruitbasketupset West Region should be entertaining ...I look to see a rematch in Arden Hills  (given the probable freezing temperatures for the game if it happens) to once again see the consistency of the Bethel Royals prevail in a 10-7 brawl (cage match if you will), oh shoot...is it consistent to eek by the completely underachieving Tommies???...should be a fun few weeks!!  GO MIAC and RICH MIES!!!  grammar rock > ^ ' modeditter..feed..module

Best run-on sentence ever?

(Thanks for the heads-up, Pat.  You should throw a Spell Check feature onto Post Patterns.  And for the record, I think TWS is one of the best posters on the MIAC board.  My question wasn't mocking him in any way, I was simply asking if his post transcended the linguistic constructs of the English language and became something greater.)
