Gags got away with one there.  Personally, I didn't think the refs did that poorly yesterday save that one call that JG was upset about and one more where they determined that the Redlands guy caught the pass when he dropped it.  The refs do the best jobs they can and, overall, they do outstanding jobs.  On some of the penalties that mae the whole SJU fan base boo, the refs were right on from what I saw.  To the SJU people: we're starting to sound like a bunch of Linfield posters regarding the refs.  The rest of the MIAC posters here still seem to be balanced.
Our radio announcers tell us how we should feel about the refs. ;)

Who cares about Karma anyway?  I'm with TDT on this.  With the old system -- the one where you rated peoples' posts 1 to 5 -- was kind of silly too.  I used to rate every Linfield poster a "1" just because they were Linfield people and I like most of them.  I guess, under the new system, one has to be an "All-Star" or whatever to be a voting member of the Karma Brigade.
Unfortunately it's the only metric we have since more meaningfull things like IQ, GPA, Net Worth are not revealed, although I suspect there is a pretty strong correlation between these things and karma. ;D

Let's be clear about one thing:  I could care less about karma.  I was just curious about what other people thought about the "touch" or "push".  As a former ref and coach I am always curious as to how "touchy" people are about "touches" between coaches and officials.

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

At the risk of really making you guys mad, I will ask: Is it okay to push an official who has made a bad call (a WIAC guy to boot) if you are a coaching legend?
Yes, you can "touch" an official if he has just patted one of your football players on the butt. ;D

Oh, I understand now.  And I only lost 1 karma point.  I'm thinking there will be more to follow.
Not me and I can. Don't feel bad - I got hit for 10 for saying I liked White Castle Slyders.  ::)

Hello Johnnies,

Paddymac here.  I just wanted to shout out a big "Thank you" to all SJU folks who welcomed as at your tailgate party.  You really made us feel welcomed, besides feeding us with some of the best burgers and sausage I've ever had.  The soup was good too, as were the suds.

As for the game, the Johnnies were very tuff indeed,  the first half was great and I felt the momentum was going our way until the last few minutes.  SJU played great and my hats off to them for a great game.  I hope SJU goes all the way.  Good luck!

Were very proud of our Bulldogs and we'll be back next year.

Thank again, and good meeting you other posters, TC, Duff, TD, SJU, etc.

Paddymac

The NCAA has schools charge $5.00 for its playoff program.
Have the area PC Gauleiter at every game to report back about "incidents."

I get it that you don't want to pay $5.00 for a game program. But when you stoop to comparing the NCAA to the Nazis, you've lost the argument.

OxyBob

I've lost nothing.  Just ask anyone affiliated with the University of North Dakota, University of Illinois, Central Michigan and numerous other schools about the PC insanity employed by the NC00 about school nicknames, quotas on the number of black coaches and possible sanctions for schools who do not keep up with NC00 recommendations about hiring a certain % of minorities, etc.  This is the next issue to be address by the so-called "catalyst for social change" -- the Myles Brand label for the NC00.  How about banning nicknames like "Hurricanes," "Storm," "Cyclones" etc because they may offend victims of hurricane Andrew in Florida and Katrina in Louisiana?  How about sanctioning the U of I because its FB team has a pink locker room for visitors?  Think its a joke?  It's not.  How about having the NC00 Executive Committee (Star Chamber) mandate policies without even bringing such policies to a member vote?  The powers that be in the NCAA are PC elites and the mindset of the PC true believers is very much an extreme, absolutist mindset.  If the NC00 Executive Committee labels your school something, the school is that something.  There's no room for dispute.  There's no room for school autonomy in making decisions about many issues, even the hiring of coaches, unique to the schools themselves.  My comparison is entirely apposite.  If you're unaware of any of this, you haven't been reading what the venerable NC00 President, Myles Brand, and his chief cohort, Walter Harrison, have been saying.  If the NC00 Executive Committee labels SJU a "hostile and abusive" environment and imposes sanctions because its Benedictine, Catholic tradition and the Abbot do not allow for the promotion of certain moral conduct on campus, what do you have?  You have "conform and do what we say or suffer the consequences."

It's not as big of an issue in D-3, at least with the private schools, because there's not as much money involved and the administrations and faculty have not, by and large, been stacked with people of similar ilk.....yet.  You do see it somewhat at Mac in MN though.  I know of at least two judges and a handful of fellow attorneys, all alumni, in my area who are beyond disgusted with that bastion of free thought.

Yikes, Chewey. Did Myles Brand kick - or sanction - your dog once? Not even Bobby Knight has that much dislike for Brand. And I'm not sure how effective those evil quotas have been. Saw something a while ago that 16 of 616 head coaching jobs in the NCAA are held by blacks. The schools must still have some autonomy. Which is nice, since it means St. Thomas is free to screw up its next hire.

You seem to have a real Chippewa on your shoulder. Maybe you should Sioux.

OxyBob

I don't see how the recitation of facts constitutes a "Chippewa" on one's shoulder, unless one doesn't like the facts.   But, this board is not an NC00 affiliate and I'm not a member of the Executive Committee so you're entitled to express your opinion.  I won't even label you "hostile and abusive."   How relieved you must be.

As DustySJU would say, "developing."  The next clarion call for "social change" will be for purposes of addressing that issue.  More black coaches would certainly be nice but if one applies and gets rejected on race that's what the good old court system is for; the NC00 should stay out of it.  I guess if "tort reform" is ever passed in MN and nationally, we can always count on the NC00.

I agree STU really hasn't had a winning program, year in and year out, since the Deinart (sp?) years.  They've had some great players like Jake Barkley and Hillard but it's unfortunate that they are not what they used to be.  I feel badly for Roney. I think he's a decent coach and he seems like a decent guy when you meet him.  The guy before him was a decent coach too.  Whomever they get, that person will have to be a good recruiter.  That's been the biggest downfall since Deinart left.

What did everyone think about the Week 3 match up between Buena Vista and Wartburg.  My feelings are that BVU really stunk up the joint.  Any opinions?

::)  I know what you're doing and it would be even funnier if there were any other IIAC posters who wanted to play with you on the MIAC board...Strength in numbers.
