wow. alot of concern for karma floating around. If you're a johnnie fan, you get +k for everything, and if you're not your karma is relatively stable, or it falls if you should every say anything negative about sju. whats the point.

But I guess the SJU fans have nothing better to worry about this week.

VOJ - I saw you pull in for the game (it's difficult to not notice the station's vehicle).  Too bad you weren't able to get over for a burger and wild rice sausage as that would have been the highlight of your day!  There's always next year, however, and many more tailgates to follows.

As others have stated, your broadcasts are top notch and SJU is extremely fortunate to have you, Bryan, Mike, and Charlie in their corner.

Duff - I always have, and probably always will, root for my conference to progress in the playoffs after my team is out.  This week will be the first time that I will have ever rooted for Bethel without SJU still in the mix but I personally would like to see the MIAC advance to the next level.  I have the utmost respect for Central and if they prevail this week I will root them on for the remainder of their season, too.  For me it is SJU first, MIAC second, and the West region champ third.  Hell, I even root for the Pack and Bears once the Vikings are out of it.  The Packers first, followed by the Bears of course.  Sorry, Zip.

Where's TDT?  He must still be recovering from Friday night.  ;D

Veek...I wanted to get over, but the phone lines and our normal equipment were not getting along, so I had handle a few problems and go with the back up equipment, it was a little stressful, otherwise we would have been up there...I will definitely make it a priority to get out to see all of you at the festivities next year, the fans are very important to us and I like to talk to about the J's with you...

Pat-how can you make that statment? How many MIAC posters have said they are rooting against Bethel-one. But I don't think you are going to get a gushing of love for Bethel, either. It would be nice if they won, but I am not going out and getting a Bethel shirt to wear, as I am sure no Bethel fan would be out getting an SJU shirt to wear.

Duffman,

What a joke. It is a shame you are such ass. If it weren't for you over the years my I would have incredible respect for your program.

No one wants to hear your bitching, you piece of $hit.  I don't know why you even care what I think or say.

This might be the only board I can remember where posters aren't rallying behind their conference's postseason representative. Any win in the postseason elevates the entire conference, especially here where the MIAC has a shot to shed its one-trick pony status.

Pat, I understand and agree with you with regards to conference standing, but I think the Bethel-SJU rivalry is among the most intense for dislike I have ever been around..., that said I wish both teams well, if Bethel goes the distance the MIAC gets credit, if Central can win it all the J's can say they were beaten by the best team they played all year...might not mean much, but either winning will bring credit

Repete-how did you like the hockey over the weekend?

VOJ I would give you Karma, but I'm not yet in that club.   :-\

The Central run defense is actually better than the pass defense.  You just saw more of the pass defense because you were put in a position of needing to pass to get back in it.  Our #14 was assigned to cover Johnnies #5 and there aren't too many that are going to be able to out run Guy D.  That guy can fly.

I have a lot of respect for all of the MIAC teams that Central has played over the years.  They have all been great games with most of them being very close.  It could be a long day for Bethel though, if they are not a balanced team offensively.  On the positive side though, limited passing history means they will have a better chance of catching us sleeping on a big play.  I am hoping Connell, his receiving corps, and Schuring can get us in the end zone early and often.  It was an unexpected margin of safety for Central Saturday and it made the cold weather much more tolerable.

Johnnie fans, you probably noticed that Central fans were still strongly cheering the defensive efforts no matter how much the score differential grew.  It was out of respect for what the Johnnies have proven they could do.  No lead seemed too comfortable, other than making the weather more tolerable.

OK, two then. Thanks for the correction. Who really gives a rip?

I'm going to be like Switzerland and stay neutral.

Duffman,

What a joke. It is a shame you are such ass. If it weren't for you over the years my I would have incredible respect for your program.

There's a big difference between respect and like. I respect Bethel for putting a quality football team on the field year-in and year-out, but I don't have to like them for it.

Like I mentioned last night, my first experience with Bethel was a L in '99. Then there was another L in '00. Unlike most SJU fans, I didn't have a history of success against Bethel to fall back upon. I was angry and disappointed and had to wait a few years to finally get a win in that rivalry. Throw in the current 2-game losing streak and my personal version of SJU's record against Bethel is 5-4 and I've yet to witness a victory in Arden Hills. No one else in the MIAC has caused me so much pain.

It's great having a heated rivalry, especially since the UST games have lost a lot of luster, but the more heated the rivalry, the less affection for the opposite side. Yes, the respect is there. The fact that I dislike Bethel so much reveals just how much I do respect the program. I can't ignore their success against us lately and I can't ignore the jealousy (yes, I said it) that BU is still playing this season and SJU isn't. That doesn't mean I have to start liking them or cheering for them. If they beat Central, good for them. I'm not going to celebrate with them, though.

Every season I look at the schedule and I the game I want to win more than any (even UST) is Bethel. I was salivating for a rematch and I'm disappointed that it didn't happen—and really disappointed that it was SJU that dropped the ball. You can call me a bitter, angry, arsehole. I don't care. I won't be actively cheering against Bethel and I won't gloat if Central wins, but I won't be cheering or gloating for BU if they come out on top. Best of luck to both teams. I hope it's a good game.
Nice day, huh?

How fickle karma is...I congratulate Central on the Iowa board...make a few postings about the game, none of them offensive and I take a hit or two...

I want to congratulate the seniors at SJU for a fine four years full of memories and wins...yes each season ended earlier than Johnnies fans wanted to, but some great men played some great football for four years, you will be missed.

It will be an interesting off season in Collegeville, there are many questions to be answered and many starting positions up for grabs.

I took a 15 point karma hit from you Johnnie fans this week...no need to complain to me, I may have said a few things that could have been taken poorly but I didnt smite any of you guys for talking trash on our board. Damn.

I interpret this as a shot at SJU fans.  I may be wrong, however I am sure I am not the only one who will see it that way.

That would be a very shallow analysis of the situation.  For known and unknown  reasons, Bethel is the team the rest of the MIAC has a difficult time respecting.

As a counterpoint, look back to 2004.  Their was an outpouring of love and support for Concordia from all corners of the MIAC.

Just like karma on this board, I don't think it really matters much if Duffman or anyone else is pulling for or against Bethel.

I tend to pull for the team that beat my team, perhaps as some sort of validation.  I'm not sure who I'm pulling for yet.  On the long ride home Saturday I was thinking I would pull for Central, based on the logic above.  After reading some of the post game comments from Central posters I am leaning Bethel.

The Bethel posters, with one exception, have been gracious following their victories over SJU and UWEC.  I spoke to several Bethel players and parents after the SJU game.  They were polite, humble and gracious.  Starting turning my view of Bethel.

Add another Johnnie to the Central bandwagon....

It sure has been nice that Freebird hasn't been posting much this season.

VOJ: You are kinda a celebrity these days.  You should hear Veek talk about your polish and grandeur.

Veek: Woody's in downtown Pella was rockin' on Friday night.  I had prolly a Level 2 in the morning.  You were about a Level 5 hence no bevies at the tailgate party for you and I'd say ROR Jr. was a 5 as well.

OAS: Call me today, we need to chat.  Make sure you clear the phone lines for when TDT calls in on Saturday...

More comment later.

Once your squad is eliminated, who really cares who you pull for?

I was rooting for SJU to beat Whitewater last year because I am closer to that program and it's fans than I am a rival that my squad tries to beat every season in every sport.
