Thanks, Mr. Shoes.

Just wondering. Our colors are cardinal and purple, but purple is the dominant color for our football unis.

It gets a little slow in the off season, doesn't it?

ROR,

Those were some great pictures you posted from the game on Saturday. I enjoyed looking at them.  Central's new field looks good, too.

I have a question for you SJU guys. There was a photo of a fan wearing a nice cardinal and blue jacket and I know that those are your colors, but do you use the blue anymore? It seems that your unis are always red and white.

Coco, thanks for the kind words.  Yes, the Central field does look very good.  I'm not sure I like the two tone look or not.

Actually, the answer to the question about those that went beyond the West Region final is Concordia, 1986.

1986
1st Round NCAA Playoffs
UW-Stevens Point Home W 24-15
2nd Round NCAA Playoffs
Central College, IA W 17-14
NCAA Playoff Semifinal
Augustana College, IL L 7-41

Keep in mind that the Cobbers have three NAIA titles-- 1964*, 1978 and 1981*.

Between 1986 and 2007 there have been exactly three undefeated teams left standing  in the MIAC at the end of the year not named SJU:

1987- Gustavus
2000-Bethel
2004- Concordia

(SJU went undefeated in the regular season in 1989, 1991, 1993, 1996, 1998, 2003, and 2005).

The 1997 playoffs pitted Concordia and Augsburg in the first round of a 16 team tournament, so regardless there would have been a MIAC rep in the West Region final.

* Concordia was NAIA Co-Champs in 1964 and 1981 when they tied their opponent in the Championship Game.
SJU Champions 2003 NCAA D3, 1976 NCAA D3, 1965 NAIA, 1963 NAIA; SJU 2nd Place 2000 NCAA D3; SJU MIAC Champions 2018, 2014, 2009, 2008, 2006, 2005, 2003, 2002, 2001, 1999, 1998, 1996, 1995, 1994, 1993, 1991, 1989, 1985, 1982, 1979, 1977, 1976, 1975, 1974, 1971, 1965, 1963, 1962, 1953, 1938, 1936, 1935, 1932

d-train,

My mistake on 04...it has been corrected.   I seemed to have UWWW climbing the ladder faster in my memory than they did....hard to believe that prior to this year, WW has only been dominant for two years.....seems longer than that.

Esq---typical attorney....find the nuance to the question....dig up some obscure fact...charge someone $300/hr to do it.  At least you didn't do the last thing ;D

I dont think anyone is saying SJU isnt the cream of the West in the recent memory. The Dutch look to replace you in the next 18 though! ;) Only 1 Title after getting that far though, that has to be somewhat frusterating, but hey, when your frusterated after making the national semis your doing something right!

I have one question for you guys, and I dont mean any offense by it but does John G do anything? I.E. during games, after and such. He stood away from the action most of the game Saturday and after the game he was on our sideline walking alone, not with his team.

Just wondering what his official function was besides figurehead for the program.

I dont mean any offense, tons of respect, just an honest question so please dont hit my karma so hard! ;)

Pat,

Your sources are pretty consistent with what I was told.

I would love to see another D3 game on but I personally think it will be a while.

Perhaps inaccurate and only rumor but someone mentioned to me Gameday requested the Johnnie campus but were turned down.

Perhaps because there was no game there that day.

DutchHawk,

You should have seen him after the Cheese League officials in Round 1 ....

But others here can offer more detail. Can't imagine even standing that long when (if) I'm his age.

He does the same thing as all those D1 coaches who stand there motionless occasionally talking into their headset.  He just doesn't need the headset. ;)

BTW did anyone notice that not only does Mark Mangeone (SP?) of Kansas look like Jabba the Hut but he has about the same amount of mobility during the game. ???

KCDutch

Mangino is the source of many jokes and funny shirts in the KC area!

Mangino got lost during his last recruiting visit to KC. So, he pulls into a Wendy's and asks how to get back to 435 (which is an interstate that loops around KC)?  Wendy's employee replies "Try a salad."

That's small potatoes compared to a rotund former WIAC coach who was driving a recruit around campus.

The door popped open while he rounded a corner, putting the coach on the curb. :)

Amazingly, you're the first person to ever raise this point.  You think it would be more common with old man stereotypes and all.

You hit the nail on the head, though.  Gagliardi Sr does nothing for the program.  Actually, the administration doesn't even pay him.  SJU has managed to have the success it has by diverting all his salary into bribes for rival teams who slavishly take the money and spent it on corn chips and Wii games.  Central, for some crazy reason, turned down the cash this year so the Johnnies spent it on an all night Al Pacino film fest.  That's why their play lacked luster.  They were spending too much time walking bleary-eyed on the sidelines trying to say, "You f*#$ing cock-a-roach!" in their meanest Cuban accent.

I notice I'm in third position (tied for 16th) on the pick'em ladder and I thought I would pat myself on the back now since I can't get any closer from here.

I picked the Johnnies to beat the Dutch this weekend and Bethel the week following so I'm guaranteed to miss one game each week until the semi-finals.  Best I can hope for is a second place finish due to an insane number of picks for the underdogs by other punters (who all have to lose) in all the other brackets.  Odds are slim.

Dusty...are you sure about that?  I have to believe that if they requested it, they would have gotten it, I will check that out.
