SUMMIT!!!!!

As much as I'd like to see Santana stay, it comes down to $$ for one thing (he'll get over $150mill for 7 yrs as a free agent a year from now), which few teams can afford, adn that includes Pohlad.  Also, I've heard from a highly respected source in a position to know (clue: III) that Johan wants to try playing in a large metro like NYC, LA, where there is a better/bigger endorsement market and a larger, more viable Latino community.

Hunter was motivated by greed more than anything that may have come out of his mouth. I'm in the minority, but I'm glad he's gone. For every game he "saves" with his glove, he loses at least one with his bat. I've seen him whiff in embarrassing manner far too many times to mourn his departure.  Use his $$ to lock Morneau and Cuddy in longer term.

I'm hoping a Santana trade is with the Dodgers, ideally for Matt Kemp and Adam LaRoche. That solves our troubles at 3B and CF, and leaves us with a nice rotation of Garza, Baker, Bonser, Slowey, and Liriano (if his arm's 100%) or Sosa (assuming we don't resign Silva).  It would be nice to get more for Santana, but you gotta be realistic... the fact he is a FA after the 08 season or signing him to a (pricey) extension devalues him, trade-wise.

Agreed about Punto--- him and Fatty Matty LeCroy must have some incredible dirt on Gardy or higher up.

I don't think the trade talk is a negotiating position.  Instead the Twins have decided to trade instead of sign.  When is the last time that team started talking trade with a big name pitcher and didn't let him go?  Frankie V?  Gone.  Black Jack?  Gone.  Sweet Music certainly had a number of good years in him - no decline there.  Sure, there may be a new GM, but a leopard doesn't change it's spots.

From Santana's point of view, how does the Twinks starting trade talks convince him to take less money with the Twins?  He wants $25M a year and he'll get it.  With full trade rights and a 'No' clause in his contract, the Twins can only talk to teams that can pay it.  They are actually forced to negotiate against themselves before they even talk to Santana.

Nope, my friends, he's already gone.

And although it may be the rational business decision to make, baseball isn't a business.  It's a passion.  And the passion that is needed is Yankee passion with the cash.  Owners (short of agreeing to salary caps) have to play with a 'can't take it with you' passion to win.

Now that I gotta getta new dog, I'm gonna name it Kirby.

Just a sidenote for the playoff picture...Looks like the Yankees are going to nab Johan Santana from the Twins.  How are the twins going to fill the stadium when the most popular and best pitcher are gone???!!??!?!?
They are planning on making everyday a bobblehead day.  They have 81 ex Twins lined up.  Opening day will be a rendition of the new stadium with Carl Pohlad sitting on it taking a big dump.

Seriously how much can a bobblehead cost?  $5?  Two million fans times $5 is only $10 million.  Lot less than what Hunter and Santana are getting. ;D

I already have my tickets for Steve Lombardozzi Bobble-Head Day--huge Lombo fan, can't wait.
Since Carl will be the opening day bobble head and they are going to give out 81 players, that leaves Fan Appreciation Night where they will be giving a twofer.  That twofer just happens to be Lombardozi and Dan Gladden.  (for those of your scratching your head..http://www.bat-girl.com/archives/000190.php

The Twins have been the most successful small market team by ditching their stars as soon as they were at or past their peak and were no longer worth what they would have to pay.  They have also been reluctant to give any pitcher a long term contract worth many millions.  Likely due to the fragility of arms, shoulders, elbows etc.  Maybe there is a move to drop this strategy within the organization and maybe that has something to do with Terry Ryan leaving.

Mangino is the source of many jokes and funny shirts in the KC area!

Mangino got lost during his last recruiting visit to KC. So, he pulls into a Wendy's and asks how to get back to 435 (which is an interstate that loops around KC)?  Wendy's employee replies "Try a salad."

Com'on now.  Let's leave the jokes at a minimum on Mangino.  He's turned that Kansas program into a quality football program:  Kansas, a tradition since September.

"I hate Bethel (or Brothel) because...."

"...they are not St. John's."

That's the easy answer, at least.  I'm not a football fan.  I'm not an MIAC fan.  I don't pay attention to the games because I have a deep-rooted passion for a bunch of plucky kids out there every Saturday, giving it their all for the love of the game.  First and foremost, I'm a fan of watching St. John's kick the crap out of schools that aren't St. John's.

The difficult answer:  I do have a healthy level of respect for a couple of schools--Concordia-Moorhead, in particular, because of their stubborn insistance on running a goofy offense and having a stout defense, and Mount Union, because they're playing by the same rules as everyone else, but they're playing a totally different game.

I don't think I'll ever get there with Bethel, mostly because the institution is so upfront about their ideological beliefs, yet the school's individuals still have the audacity to take groin shots at the bottom of piles and stomp on logos after big wins.

You just love talking about groin shots don't you?  ::)  :)

Talking about them is preferable to taking them, I suppose.

My mourning period is officially over... >:(

This was made possible by a combination of getting a mid-year raise by being given a different title, and being at Walmart during lunch (my normal hangout) to pick up a prescription while they are unloading a shipment of Wii's.  Bought 2. One for the kids, and one for e-bay to pay for the one for the kids!!!   ;D
