It is amazing how easy it is to hide behind our computers and throw dirt back and forth when we're not face-to-face - I know I'm guilty of this - but where does that get anyone?  Does it make us feel good to degrade someone or someone's alma mater? And even if in the short-term it does feel good, does it accomplish anything?  It's one thing to disagree, even vehemently, on a subject or an opinion, but it's amazing how ugly this board can get.

Not purporting to be without guilt here, but sometimes reading the tangents on this board can be very depressing.

GO ROYALS on Saturday vs. the Dutch!!

Free turkey...didn't you get told to just shut up already?  Your act is getting old...I have to tell you, I was conflicted about who to root for this weekend, because I like to see the MIAC do well regardless of sport, and I have met and talked to Steve Johnson a number of times, great guy, and since the change of a few years ago, the games between SJU and Bethel have been less chippy...but after reading your junk on this board...I am leaning toward the Dutch.

If that was your reasoning for pulling for a certain team than how can you cheer for SJU with all the stuff TDT, Duffman, and KR throw around? It is funny how fun banter becomes "junk" when it is aimed at your team.

I like how the only team the Bethel ever plays is SJU.  And so it goes - the high point of every rival MIAC team (except one..) is beating the Johnnies.  And their success in the playoffs is defined in comparison to the Johnnies.  And after they are beat, their mantra remains how they did compared to the Johnnies.

The fact that Concordia is the only MIAC team that seems able to take pride in their accomplishments, regardless of what SJU has done, leads me to be a Cobber supporter when the time is right.  Auggie Tech seemed to take a step in that direction in the latter half of this season, as well.  Imagine a world where Johnnies admire the grit and spirit of hard fighting Auggies.  Bloody hard to do.

I dare you to come here and say that.

To all my fellow SJU backers,

I think I have finally been able to determine what the Bethel types like thefreebird want; simple acknowledgment for a job well done........they are no longer in diapers and want us to acknowledge that they have pooped in the big boy toilet (won in the playoffs).  They want to show us their poop, have us comment on how big it was and encourage them to continue using the toilet.  The problem is they are going to continue to want to show us their poop (if there is any) and have us continue to validate their growing potty skills.......for those of you parents you will know what I'm talking about....after awhile seeing the poop gets old and just want to make sure they wash their hands.....keep in mind there will be accidents...where they go in their trousers again....

So there you have it-----Bethel good job for being big boys and winning a couple of games in the playoffs, make sure you wash you hands and don't forget to flush ;D

How can you belittle Bethel so much at this point in the year? They beat you head to head this year, and last year I believe. They are still playing football and you guys talk about them like they were a winless team who pulled off a miracle win. The past is the past and of course we Central fans appreciate it and take pride in it but at this point the Royals are the ones still playing ball while you guys are acting like the big brother who can't handle it when their younger brother can finally beat them on the driveway.

NOBODY who has ANY say in the outcome of ANY game, be it Bethel, SJU, or any other school, has ever or will ever seek acknowledgment from you, me or anyone else on this board.

Fine then, we will cause them to have an "accident" this weekend and then you wont have to hear about how great Bethel is anymore, agreeable?

Here is Frank the Plank's outlook for next year for the Johnnies.

Don't mean to pick on Frank, but boy I didn't know Stifter was that lanky ...

D1 - I think this is a discussion that you cannot possibly understand and should probably avoid.  I think you are reading Redtooth's metaphor far too literally.  I read it as a statement (told in a humorous way) as to how far Bethel has come and how their program has developed.

It's not like Bethel just beat us for the first time.  Bethel has done a fine job this year and nobody is denying that.

I hate to see Bethel succeed just as I hate to see any rival succeed.  I cheer against them just as I cheer against the Packers.  This "belittling" is nothing more than banter within a rivalry that continues to develop.

Quote from: DutchHawk on November 26, 2007, 06:45:20 PMOnly 1 Title after getting that far though, that has to be somewhat frusterating, but hey, when your frusterated after making the national semis your doing something right!

DutchHawk,

I missed you statement/question a couple days ago on the topic of SJU winning 8 West Region Championships in the last 18 years...  No question getting that far 8 times and winning one championship could have created frustration....when you get that far you realize the amount of things you need to go your way to win it all.  This is why we all should recognize the tremendous accomplishments that Mount Union continues to add to.  I will say that I look with great pride on the fact that 5 of the 7 loses came against the eventual National Champion in either the semis or the Stagg.....3 of those to Mount Union.

Good question and best of luck this week.
