Geez, this is a lot of football talk for the MIAC board.

Sam stood over his tee shot on the 350 yard 18th hole for what seemed an eternity. He waggled, looked up, looked down, waggled again, but didn't start his back swing.

Finally his exasperated partner asked, "What in the world is taking so long?"

"My wife is watching me from the clubhouse balcony," Sam explained. "I want to make a perfect shot."

His companion paused, looked to the clubhouse, and said, "No way. You don't have a chance in hell of hitting her from here."

Having seen a lot D-I playoff division teams in the northeast, specifically around NJ I think many of Mounts players could play for teams from the MAAC and NEC and possibly a couple of Patriot league teams.  The better D-I playoff teams and D-I bowl teams, no.

I'll bet Charlie Weis would have played a few of them this year!

What does that have to do with whether or not they could play at the D-I level?

Dumb Lady in Front of raiderfan: When does Mount play Ohio State?
Raiderfan: As soon as they want to lose by 100.
Dumb Lady: You're a jerk.
Raiderfan: Yes ma'am, a jerk with common sense.

That is the funniest thing I've read all day!  Thanks raiderfan1983!

One thing I'd like to add is that D1 athletes, once they get to school (or at least to Campus), eat, sleep, live, and breath their sport.  Yes there are many who are simply head & shoulders above the rest, but I believe there are plenty of DII and DIII athletes who, if placed in a DI program with the best weight programs and speed programs and nutrition programs as well as the time devoted to these things, could do very well.

My point is: there is definitely a great disparity between the average DI athlete and the average DIII athlete, but I believe a good amount is due to the disparity in the training once at college.

There's kind of a gray area in my opinion when it comes to dominating DIII athletes/teams. At what point does it become a question of "why aren't these guys playing at a higher level?" Wartburg wrestling in Iowa I think is another example of that. Their lineup is made up of guys who in a lot of people's opinions could wrestle for a lot of bigger schools.

I understand why kids go to DIII schools, I went to Central obviously but do these guys have the opportunity to play at a higher level? I'm guessing that they were maybe too small or not fast enough for some schools but sometimes you have to wonder why they didn't at least try.

I can see the other side of the argument with academics and the comfort of a small school but I guess maybe my argument becomes are some DIII athletes almost too good for this level?? It's kind of a catch 22. Am I talking crazy or does anyone else kind of see where I'm going with it?

Again, the topic of moving up a division has been addressed almost ad nauseum.  There's a board for it on the General Topics board.  Other sports may be a bit different, but for football, you can't "play up" a division.  There have been plenty of documented dynasties in D-III, and Mount pales in comparison to some.  Look at Hobart College Men's Lacrosse in the 80's and 90's (12 straight championships), Middlebury College Men's Hockey (5 championships in a row until last year, and many other championships prior to that), and even the swimming team in Ohio that I'm blanking on the name of (20 some championships in a row).

Last week I stated on this board that I felt all the Bethel folks wanted was a little acknowledgment for pooping in the big boy toilet by winning a couple of games in the playoffs.  For those of you that have not ventured over to the OAC Board recently to see the latest antics.....read the following passages from some of our favorites then go check out the responses from the MUC faithful....quite entertaining.

From royalachilies---
"RedToothe, I am not sure who your are or who you are for, but as far as Kyle Lee is concerned, he has had some injury issues, and Bernstetter has been used as necessary according to the game plan.   This plan will change if necessary this week.  I  assure you we will use them as needed in Alliance.  If you are a BU fan, go back to the MIAC boards and join the scattered johnnie posters, you will do well there..  If you are a MIAC guy, we are playing for SJU, Olaf, Iowa, Minnesota, and all the other states that encompass the MIAC..  If you think we are scared of Mount Union, you are wrong,  I know big words, but one thing they have not seen yet,  a team that  wants to play one more week,  not just for the championship, but for the fact they get to be together one more time as a team that puts everyone else first.  Mount Union is full of great athletes, sure of the victory, sure of a lot of victories to come, but this week, this time, they play a team that believes in eachother.  If we cant get it done with the recievers, we will stick it in there ear with the defense, and if we get scored on, we will score on the floor, or through the air.  but any which way, they will know they were up against a team unlike they have seen.  If these points end up in quotations, know this Mount Union, we dont care about your stats, your players, or your coaches, this team got here together, and we will show up and play together.  I remember a SJU team that shocked the world a few years ago, and we were just a minute away that year from beating the SJU team that went on to be who?   SJU did it because they believed, they were not intimitaded, and they showed up,  all of which I expect Bethel to do this weekend.  D3 finaly gives props to the team that I know has the ability to shock even you Raiders.   Strap them tight boys.............. "

From the Freebirdie-- "For posters who talks a lot about respect it is interesting how little you give to a team you have never played and happened to win the west region.  At least kick our @ss once before you completely write us off  :)."

Let me start off with the obvious---the MIAC may have players from other states but all the schools are all in MINNESOTA.  Thank you for considering playing for SJU, but we seem to do just fine without your help in the playoffs.  I'm sure they have not seen a team that just wants the play together another week ::) ::)  If you are going to be a phoney, at least try something original.....PLU won the title in 1999 with that one on the road to Salem....I know in 2000 Bethel tried to say "we are this year's PLU" only to get blasted in the first round by PLU.  The last statement about giving props to a team that has the ability to shock the Raiders proves may point last week about acknowledgment and toilet training.

The bird's statement also proved that they are just begging for someone to pat them on the back....I love it, "Kick our a$$es before you write us off" LOL

Lets take that one step farther.  I think that some athletes do not want to give the sport 24-7-365 attention.  They want to be kids, study, get a degree and not eat, sleep, and train for football.  The choose D3 so they can play a sport they love and not have to give it all their time.  Although in Iowa's case from all the guys getting thrown into jail maybe they need to train a little more.   ;D ;D ;D

Don't forget to add Augsburg Wrestling (7 NCAA championships in last 11 years)?   ;D

I think you are thinking of Kenyon Swimming-- who has won the men's title every year since 1980 and 21 women's titles since 1984.    Mount Union in football is pretty lame compared to that feat. (But it's about the only lame part of MUC football).
