I watched almost the entire D2 game, the end of the NAIA game, and most of the D3 game. In my [biased] opinion, UWW and MUC had the best teams of the three. Both were fast and big and played extremely well (turnovers aside). The D2 teams looked good, but I expected them to look bigger and faster than they did. *shrug*

I was also bummed that NWMS lost that third in a row. Things were going so well for them for most of the game. It felt like Valdosta St stole it from them in the end.
Nice day, huh?

Hard to tell how good anyone was in the NAIA game given the conditions.  That was unbelievable.  Glad that the Stagg will never be played in such conditions and I'm pretty shocked that the NAIA would play on a  field that was so easily overwhelmed by the elements.

Shoes, I agree.  I really thought the kids would be much bigger and have much more speed.  I thought the d3 game showed much more size and speed.  I knew some of the kids playing on the NWMS team and was somewhat baffled.  Do not interpret what I am saying is that they were slow and weak, just not what Im used to seeing at the d2 level.

I should have noted that the NAIA game wasn't a fair comparison.

Now this kind of thing used to happen in JJR's venue when he was a prosecutor.  Now that he's moved to the bench, I guess these folks have had to move on.

I do miss the stories of weirdness and depravity that JJR used to share.

Tmerts,

In their infinite wisdom, the Navy has deemed it fit to send me to San Diego for a General Surgery Internship next year!

Rest of MIAC PP,
If you get sick of winter next year or need a getaway from the wife/girlfriend/job/significant other and want to see some warm weather anytime after June, let me know!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!

I'm off for a 14 day whirlwind tour of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Ohio to see as many relatives as possible and drink as much free bevvies as possible in the process.
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

The top ten differences between fishing and sex.....

10.  No matter how many beers you had, you can still fish.
9.  If your partner takes incriminating pictures of you fishing you don't have to worry about them showing up on the intenet should you decide to run for president.
8.  No one will ever tell you that you will go blind if you fish by yourself.
7.  Nobody expects you to fish with the same partner the rest of your life.
6.  Your fishing partner does not get upset about running into someone you fished with a long time ago.
5.  You don't have to go to a a sleazy shop in a seedy neighborhood to buy fishing stuff.
4.  If you hire a fishing pro you don't have to worry that they may be an undercover cop.
3.  When you see a really good fishing person you don't have to feel guilty about fantasizing the two of you fishing together.
2.  There are no fishing transmitted diseases.
1.  Your fishing partner will never say "Not again.  We were just fishing last week!  Is fishing all you ever think about?"

KR, my second son is being stationed at Pendleton after when he returns from Okinawa in March/April. Can I set up an appointment for a brain transplant. Actually, he's a pretty smart kid - just needs some seasoning.

To the best of my recollection, the Gophers of old had recruits from a lot of states, seemingly a good number from PA like Dungy, and I think Sandy Stephens, but did a good job of getting the blue chip Minnesotans too. I'll let 57 correct me if my memory is faulty.

I too thought the Stagg was a well played game, considering the conditions, maybe better than good. I saw the Giants/Redskins game, and thought they were an embarrassment to professional football, by way of comparison.

The Warhawk fans over on the WIAC board have their shorts in a knot because there weren't 22 or maybe 24, UWW players on the All America teams. Some people just can't be pleased.

Man, don't ask me. All I know is Paul Giel and Verne Gagne came from Minnesota. They had to go out of state (Wisconsin) to get Bud Grant.  ;D

How far back are we going with this?  Wasn't Bud Wilkinson a MN boy and a AA qb for the Gophers?

Interesting thread over on the WIAC board relative to some of the behavior at Friday's Stagg Bowl luncheon and other atics prior to kickoff.

As long as we're going way back ... among the the best Minny player the Gophers didn't get was Ernie Nevers, born in Willow River but attended school in Superior,. Among the best they did get, Bronko Nagurski, who I used to buy Hamm's from in his later years.

I was lucky growing up to fish with a family friend Harold 'Hal' Hanson, who played next to Bronko at the U, was AA and later played 51 pro games. For years, I just knew him as the old guy who let me fish for sunfish off his dock but later on he'd talk about playing without a helmet.

Wilkinson is way before my time and so is Nagurski and I think he was originally from Canada.
To tell the truth, Giel, Gagne & Grant are before my time also.
Just killing time until the experts can tell me what the Johnnie prospects are for 2008.......

Good to see you back, KR, and good luck in San Dog.  Remember, it's only a 45 minute train ride to TJ.  And you'll need to take the train - not for the ride down, but the ride back...  Don't go messin' with the Federali's.

And I too would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and take this opportunity to post the Christmas pic of my kids, from Lake Wobegon (as they are obviously all above average).

The girls by the Christmas tree:

and the girls in the city on our way to photos with Santa:

Yes, I'm a proud dad and a very lucky man.

Merry Christmas, all.

Hey 57, Paul Giel is from my hometown, Winona. My high school football team played it's games at Paul Giel Field. Finished second in the Heisman as I recall, then went on to a decent pro baseball career, pitching for the Giants if memory serves.
