retagent.........the winds were gusting to 50-60 mph at times, yesterday golf was impossibile.  Torre Pines is a great place.  Staying at the lodge is the way to go.  If you make it to my neck of the woods, Thousand Oaks, Ventura County, let me know and I'll show you some other great golf courses.  Have a great time in SD!!

Conde Nast now lists Fins as the region's top fishing guide....

Developing......

Don't tell the folks at Conde Nast that I got skunked today. Even using my new structure on a string.  :'(

Fins do you actually own that thing and if so does it help you catch fish?

That is pretty cool.  I will have to look into this.  I used Fish TV along with a Vexlar last week and you can almost watch the fish bite the bait.  It was pretty cool.

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

I was watching the Sugar Bowl last night and twice they talked about this O-lineman for Georgia and how smart he was.

They said he had a 4.1 GPA.  ???

Am I missing something? Is that possible? Extra credit?  :D

Well, it was FOX doing the broadcast.  ;)

So, who was the idiot that said he was getting excited about the Vikings each week?  He even went as far as wondering if Childress had engineered the success of the Vikings or was it just dumb luck.  I want to officially call out that fool as a fool.

Friggin' Vikes are on TV two weeks in a row down here and they have to be the last two weeks.  Damn dumb Viqueens.  They were being beaten so badly by half time that I gave into the nagging and did chores instead of watching the pathetic end of another Vikes season.

Vikings suck!  Vikings suck!

It could be worse - I'm a Lions fan. :P

I got you all beat, I'm a Dolphins fan.   :'(

From what I understand some schools do this and even some high schools do this.  I have only seen this at the high school level when the student takes classes for college credit.  Since these are harder classes they have a hight GPA weight average thus, giving the student a higher than normal GPA.  Maybe this guy is taking classes towards his masters which could be considered harder than undergrad and weighted higher.

Thanks Klop. I think they were talking about his high school GPA.

I really enjoyed the Sabers/Penguins hockey game in Ralph Wilson Stadium.

I want to hear the opinions of some real hockey experts who saw it.

Thanks.  :)

I'm with Klop, I think maybe honors classes or Masters level classes maybe count on a 5.0 scale like in high school. I'll take my 3.3 out of SJU over he 4.1 out of Georguh any day!

But you get a great draft pick out of the deal not to mention a new genius in the front office!
Poor vikes fans had to see a season almost good enough to inspire hope, but not quite while still not bad enough for a good draft pick!

While we are waiting for the experts to weigh in, I will give you my thoughts on the game. I thought it was a lot of fun. Gary Bettman probably wet himself with joy when Sid the Kid scored to win the shootout! I kind of feel bad about how much pressure has been put on Sidney to be the face of the NHL. The Ryan Miller trash talking commercial was quite funny. I called my dad and laughed about what a big deal they were making about the temps. What Johnnie fan hasn't sat out in below freezing temps to watch a sporting event? 8) My dad pointed out that he can remember high school hockey games being played outdoors at night up on da Range. Yowza! :o I had a friend call and inform me that if they ever do an outdoor game on the West coast we are going. After I got done laughing so hard I nearly fell off the couch I asked them where exactly on the West coast is there a team that plays in a city that gets cold enough to host an outdoor game! After a moment of silence I was informed "nevermind". :D

Thanks, Bennie!  Any others?

Was the absence of penalties due to ice conditions in that the players had to concentrate so intently on skating in those conditions  that they did not commit a lot of penalties, or is their style of play usually that penalty free?

(And I understand Armstrong's call at the end of regulation...)

retagent

I too enjoyed the Pens/Sabres game. The one thing  that made it a little less than optimum was the snow/sleet/wind. It's a little tougher to skate into a wind, and the snow on the ice made puck handling more difficult, and put their timing off a tad. Maybe the lack of penalties was that the officials were more interested in getting the game over than calling cheapos which they do with some regularity in indoor games. Both teams had to face the same conditions, so it was even steven on that. I think that hockey suffers somewhat from the same problem as golf. The commentators/ writers et. al. see the need to have a "face" for the game, a la Tiger, which may hype interest a little for the casual fan, but there are so many good players, that many get overlooked, and interest wanes if the "face" is not playing. That said, both Crosby and Tiger are about as good as you can get if you need to put a face on a game. Crosby's Minnesota (Shattuck Academy) ties also help for me.

Thanks for the invite dawg. I try to stay away from getting that close to La La Land. I try to get to either SD county or Palm Springs area at least once in the winter. There are just too many good courses out there to play them all, but they are a little pricey for an old retired (comfortably, of course) guy on a fixed income.

BDB

I loved the game. Obviously not a coincidence that the NHL and NBC had Sydney Crosby involved.  ;)

He did something in that game I have never seen anyone else do when he tried to split 2 defensmen by dribbling the puck up in the air with his blade. Hard to believe.

The guy fixing the the hole in the ice got major face time. How about moving it along a little bit faster, buddy.  :P
