I really enjoyed the Sabers/Penguins hockey game in Ralph Wilson Stadium.

I want to hear the opinions of some real hockey experts who saw it.

Thanks.  :)

What Johnnie fan hasn't sat out in below freezing temps to watch a sporting event?
I like the outdoor idea in the right setting and hope it doesn't get overdone. I'd love to see the old Plexiglas boards come back ala the old St. Paul Civic Center.

Back in the old, old, old days -- too old for me even --  there  used to be a rink next to Joe Hall (near where Sexton is now) once stood. I heard from an oldtimer that during one SJU game, a guy swung on a rope  over the ice. The unreliable rumor was it was Dumonceaux Sr. Not sure if this tale is true, but it made a nice story.

When I was in high school, the hometown wanted an indoor rink. They lined up all the groups to raise funds -- Lions, Jaycees, Kiwanis, etc.

At some point, the Lions figured they weren't getting enough PR as a contributor for the building and announced they would buy the Zamboni so they could put their name on it. The rest of the funding for the arena fell through.

The Zamboni arrived -- so the Lions build a garage at the end of the outdoor rink. We froze our a--es off while the Zamboni had the best building around.

On a completely unrelated note, I saw Fran Tarkenton on the bowl coverage last night. Looks darm goofy with that William Kunstler haircut ....

Happy New Years all.

Klop, I don't think the Dolphins really contend next season.  I think they improve, hard not too after this season.  If I was Tuna I would either take Dorsey from LSU or trade the pick for lower 1 this year, a two and three and possibly a conditional two or three next year.  The dolphins need help at DT and DB (both CB and Safety) on D and a big time receiver because the morons running the team traded both Welker and Chambers this past year.  QB is important but a good free agent can be picked up or go with Lemon for another year and let Beck mature.  They could also use a stud LT but the O line is not bad and the running game will not be bad with Brown comming back and Chatmen.

They screwed up a few years ago when they hired Saban instead of giving Jim Bates a real chance.  Hopefully Tuna straightens things out on the football side.

That is a good analysis.  I thought that this team with the addition of Trotter on deffense might have made a run this year.  Trent Green, Trotter, and the RB out of Auburn might have made this a decent season.  Im glad to see a Fins fan not saying that they need to draft McFadden.  There have been enough issues at the RB position, no need to add another.  The Tuna might be cleaning Cam "I couldnt win at Indiana" Cameron out of the house.  I have no idea how a guy who said Rex Grossman would not play in college gets to be the HC at the NFL level.  Guess its not who you know its who you bl.... ;D

This year's Dolphins were victimized by some very close losses (6 losses by exactly 3 points!  And their one win should have been #7!!!) and a season ending injury to their one potentially elite offensive talent (Ronnie Brown) in the 7th game of the year.  While the Dolphins weren't necessarily designed to be a great rushing team, they certainly were not meant to pass the ball and losing Brown really hindered their offense.

I would argue that the 'Phins were certainly no worse a team than at least a few others this year (I'm looking at you, San Francisco, St. Louis, Oakland, and Atlanta).  I think Parcells is walking into a peach of a situation and he can't help but look good.  Just by catching a few breaks next year, Miami should have a handful of wins.  Then when you factor in the top overall pick (or bounty of players that the pick could be traded for), getting Ronnie Brown back, salary cap room, attractive free agent destination, an easy schedule...  I'm not saying the Dolphins are going to win 10 games next year, but that's the formula for the handful of surprise playoff teams that every NFL season has.

Very interesting thoughts TC.  I agree.  Tuna will benefit from the same things that Urban Meyer and Wade Phillips benfited from as of late.  Parcells put that Cowboy team together and then left for Phillips to take over and run it.  Meyer took over for Zook who recruited, I believe 18 of the starting 22 on the national championship team.  He was also the one that found Tebow.
One thing that Miami does have as you stated a beautiful place to go play football in and an outstanding place to spend the offseason.  My allegiance lies in the AFC East but not with the Phins, so I hope they stay down.

+k for that remark.  You read my mind.  The last time that I was on south beach, we saw some of the most outstanding looking women, got hit up for drugs twice by a guy in a tupac ****, and saw some guys making out on the beach workout station.  Minus the guys making it I love south beach and Miami in general.

I worked the ground crew my Freshman year, and helped clean snow at the hockey games outside when the rink was near where the tennis courts are now. Then, one of the monks, can't remember who, rigged up some plumbing and a water tank and hooked it behind one of the tractors they used in the gardens to lay down some water between periods. Not exactly a Zam , but it helped.

That is a very very loose interpretation of the word "man." Almost as loose as the interpretation that calls Britney a mom!

And now her sister is pregnant?!?! If there was one gene pool the world didn't need to reproduce at an early age, it would be this one. :-\
