Bennie - I hope you saw Ovechkin flying around like a maniac last night, scoring four goals and getting an assist - the game winning goal with what appeared to be a broken nose. See you at the Caps/Bluejackets game next week - in Center Iceland.

I did not see the Caps game last night. I will go check out the highlights. Since there were no highlights from the BlueJacket game last night, I haven't even looked yet today. I am going to have to tape the Caps/BlueJacket game. I will be at a conference Sunday-Monday and have to go to Portland overnight on Tuesday. I won't get home until late Wednesday.*gasp* Four days with no hockey!!! I don't know who thought it was a good idea to schedule the conference for Super Bowl Sunday. They scheduled meetings right through the game. A few years ago they did the same thing except they actually planned a viewing party (with a big screen tv). One of the sponsors provided an open bar. Let's just say that after they got the bill they decided that they will never do that again. I know I did my fairshare of damage! ;)

Are you saying it was a good thing that you were the only bennie at the party or the company would go insolvent?

Meetings during the Super Bowl? ???  Your company must be run by foreigners (you working for the Saudis?)  How un-American. :-[

I was slumming over on the WIAC board, and they were having a discussion about Derrick Stanley back in school, competing on the track team, and getting his degree. Am I wrong for wanting to start a small war lambasting them as a D I type football factory, not interested in the academic well-being of their athletes?

retagent - Give me  a break. Tell me that if you were a D3 athlete - that's D3, where most athletes are undrafted, and play the game because they love it, and because they want to get an education - who has a chance to sign a pro contract after your eligibility is up that you wouldn't do the same thing... I'd bet most posters here would take a huge contract and forgo finishing school if it was presented to them...

Instead of knocking Whitewater, why not applaud Stanley. He's been given an unusual opportunity, is pursuing his dream as a football player..And yet is actually going back to get his degree. Instead of earning a starter salary of $20-$30,000, or whatever youngsters are earning fresh out of school, he's going to earn a bit more, for however long his career is...and will them be able to fall back on a degree...

I was not alone...well, I was the only bennie! ;) There were four of us that went to the party together and let's just say that we had to find someone that didn't go to play designated driver and take us to supper. 8)

The conference is not put on by my employer. It is for a proffesional organization I belong to. No Saudis, but a lot of non-sports minded women on the planning committee. :-[

OzJohnnie

bulk;

I would like to point out that knocking UWW and applauding Stanley are not mutually exclusive.  In fact, for football lovers from Minnesota they are virtually mutually inclusive.

Indeed, it appears as if you almost willfully misconstrue retagent's post.  He shows concern not only for Stanley, but for all the other students in the WIAC mini-D1 football factory that won't make it to the NFL.  The overwhelming sentiment on the WIAC board of showing concern for potential injury for Stanley rather than applauding a completed degree pretty much settles the argument, your false dichotomy aside.

Oz, has anyone ever accused you of being a instigator?   ;)
Everyday is payday in paradise.

Thanks for having my back OZ. I guess they need such in depth explanation when they attend a school where academics takes a back seat to athletics. ;)

bennie

I just spread out a little karma on this page. I have a feeling some of you guys are going to need it! ;) ;D

The way I see it, Stanley is getting an education, and working out on a regular basis in his spare time (and we'll throw in a few meets there, too).

If he wasn't at school, he'd be doing something else ... and working out on a regular basis.   Hmmmmmm.

I don't believe the workout programs are drastically different for football vs his track events.  Now, if he was competing in the shot put, that'd be different.

I'm a graj - ee - it from U-Dub-Dub, and I think Stanley is doing a smart thing.   BadgerWarhawk and Champs07 applauded the move.  I don't believe I saw overwhelming sentiment against his decision.

Are we all together on this now?  Can't we all just get along?  :-*
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

That is pretty unamerican I do have to say.  I think they should be more attentive your your needs.  That is not very feminine not to attend to your sporting needs.   ;D ;D ;D ;D

Can anyone tell me why the WIAC gives a crap about the MIAC board telling jokes and talking fishing.  Did I miss the boat or is it the dead of winter?  I guess rehashing last season results looses some luster about....oh....mid December!

For the record:  The jokes usually give me needed laughs during the day, the fishing talk eases my mind because I do not get to fish enough, so alteat someone else is doing it, and the non football talk on Feb 1 is refreshing.  There is more to life that final score of the SJU v. Gustavus game 10 years ago.

Klop ...
But six turnovers? And a 24-16 loss? ;)

Ret, Bennie:
Just about had a spare ticket (section 100 -- a gift) for the Caps-Thrashers tomorrow but repete jr. pulled some grades out of his hind parts. Alex O. is great to watch live, TV doesn't catch a lot of what he does.

Meanwhile a few weeks ago I was surfing channels and found Roseau-Warroad. Great fun. It's the kind of stuff that will help get you though until the Twinks pick it up and the East Texas Baptist arrive at 56321.

Under "More things Oz hasn't told us about life down under" I just found this: Feb. 6 is not only Ash Wednesday, it is also Waitangi Day in New Zealand.  There's gotta be an "Aggie" joke in there somewhere, Oz - out with it!  (And of course, Feb. 6 is also National Letter of Intent day for the D1 schools, so everyone can who their favorite pro - er, D1 - teams have signed.)

Thanks for the karma, bennie, though some of us are down today anyway (someone's drawing fire - are we getting drive bys from the WIAC?).  Hey, the market's UP today, folks.  Let's celebrate.
