This may have been brought up before, but I can't find it so I'll ask any way. Has anyone heard where or if Ryan Grant is going to play college ball next year. He was a senior this year at EP?????  Just wondering if he considered SJU or if he's going DI. ???

SJU92#57- it is my understanding that RG is going to the U of Minnesota and is projected to play defense (I presume stong saftey)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Glad to hear ya got some help out of the medical community before the government takes complete control of the healthcare system and ruins it completely!

Mark my words, if the US has Universal Healthcare, the number of applicants to medical school will drop substantially, the number of physicians will drop substantially and the quality of healthcare will plummet.
KR, I don't necessarily disagree with you on this, but what is the answer?  What system do we need, or what systematic changes do we need?

Just as a point of reference, to understand how ignorant I am on this...in my simplistic and heartless insight into what's going on, it seems to me that too many people are being kept alive due to superior health care, well beyond their ability to pay for it on their own.

Boy, talk about the danger of being inactive on this board, my karma has taken a minus 6 hit since I last posted 5 days ago.

Speaking of high school hockey (I think someone mentioned it lately) I caught just the third period of the Edina/Minnetonka game. Was truly impressed with the level of play and talent on display. So were Gorg and company. Risebrough was there too. I especially liked a kid from Minnetonka named Gardner. Fast, big and made it look easy.

I'll try not to get political, but I just want people to think a little more deeply. As KR alluded to, one of the reasons good, smart capable people go into a profession is not only what they get out of it in a cosmic sense, but also, when you put many years into becoming a doctor, spending a lot of money to attend schools to do so, you also have to look at the financial reward. If that diminishes, the best of the best will opt for some other profession, and we may be left with the lesser skilled people as physicians. Please think about the consequences of policies, not just a superficial, feeling good for the moment, type of thought. That goes for all things.

That's the truth. The longer you DON'T post, the lower your karma. Someone obviously is smiting via a "buddy list" or some such thing. Bottom line is it must take a lot of time, and nobody cares anyway, so go ahead and waste your time, whoever you are.

Fellas...anyone who did not attend the first annual Red Tie Galla last night missed out on a fun time...it was great to see a tremendous number of Johnnies supporters on hand...Johnnie Red was representing (sorry I didn't get a chance to say hi personally)

Kudos to Blake Elliott, Jim Platten, Tom Stock and others who had a hand in a memorable night...lots of laughs and of course drinks and great food, hopefully there will be a second one next year...

OK, I'm hoping to keep this non-political enough that I'm not disregarding my own advice ... but, WTH, here goes. I don't think anyone here has a problem with medical doctors being among the best compensated people in our society.

What I have a problem with is the delivery systems run by insurance companies like UHC, whose top guy is consistently among the top 3 compensated CEO's in the country and whose back-dated stock option dealings are shady at best.

Meanwhile, I'm paying hundreds of bucks per month extra for a kid's medication because of their bureaucratic screwup. United Health has no phone to the appeal department, no physical address, no e-mail. Just nine months of faxes and snail mail, three long-delayed appeals and thousands later, the medicine magically reappears on the approved list.

And I have a problem with sitting with a sick infant -- one of many in a waiting room -- when a drug rep  "just stopped by, "  takes a survey of the office staff of what kinds of take-out lunch he can get them. (Sushi!) That earns the guy a trip to the front of the line and kicks everybody's already late appointments into an extra 45 minutes of sick, crying, infectious kids. That's the same industry that basically authored the seniors prescription legislation. As Dr. Phil would say: "How's that working for ya?"

Is  any of this  case for a UK type system? Naw, but anyone who doesn't thing this country needs at least some sort of major medical reform has their head in the sand. Those who say this is "the best medical care in the world" are only looking at part of the picture. We deliver the best care to specific situations but it's  lagging in other areas -- all fairly well documented stuff.  We can't rely on government to to solve it all, but whatever party wins in November, it's got to be a player in recognizing the problem and leading this nation with too many lard-a--es (another problem) towards change.

All in all, I'd rather see that $124 million annual bonus going to KR than the some insurance company CEO ... on that I hope we can all agree. END OF RANT.

I'm thinking a $124mil bonus would screw up KR's personality. Let's make it a new set of tires for his car instead.

pete. Very sorry to hear about your story. I'm sure there are many many more of them. No doubt the "system" is to blame, maybe even deserves the majority of blame. However, the beauracracy you face will probably not improve with a government run system. And this comes from someone who worked for the federal government for 22 years, 27 if you throw in my military service. The probelm seems to have more to do with the PEOPLe in the system. The focus on"what's in it for me" has permeated our culture so universally, that I really don't know how we can, as a culture, breed that out. I don't have any answers, I just try to analyze those answers others come up with.

repete - I'll give you +k again when I can.  As someone who works in healthcare, I know a lot of great docs but a lot of stuff in the system needs to be fixed.  I can't tell you how many hospitals I've been to and, upon leaving, prayed "Please don't let me get in a wreck and get sent to their ER."

What a life when you are the kind of clown who has nothing better to do than get on here every day and smite.  ;) Do you think it's as much fun as sex ,beer, fishing, trying to OD on catfish or Johnnie Football?   ???
