Here in Oz it's a nice morning in the low 80's as we watch the SB.  Manning completes his first pass.

And his first INT.

Glad to hear ya got some help out of the medical community before the government takes complete control of the healthcare system and ruins it completely!

Mark my words, if the US has Universal Healthcare, the number of applicants to medical school will drop substantially, the number of physicians will drop substantially and the quality of healthcare will plummet.
KR, I don't necessarily disagree with you on this, but what is the answer?  What system do we need, or what systematic changes do we need?

Just as a point of reference, to understand how ignorant I am on this...in my simplistic and heartless insight into what's going on, it seems to me that too many people are being kept alive due to superior health care, well beyond their ability to pay for it on their own.

I don't know what the answer is, and I'm not going to pretend to! I just know that at the rate Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement rates are dropping (soon to go down another 10.1%) it will soon be not worth it for many docs to continue seeing medicare patients. Many docs already refuse to see medicare patients because they get often less than 25% of the money they would get from seeing a patient with private insurance. Why would anyone want to have a 30 minute visit with a 75yo who has diabetes, high blood pressure, and coronary artery disease and get reimbursed $30 by Medicare when they can see 2 younger persons with simple problems (i.e. pink eye or strep throat) and get paid $160?

Ideally, everyone goes into the medical field to help their fellow man (and woman), but 8 years of school after high school plus a minimum of 3 years of residency following that with an average debt of $300,000 makes is hard to be an idealist!

As far as why do other countries with socialized medicine have longer life expectancies, to assume it is strictly because of the quality of medical care is ridiculous, especially when you keep in mind that you are comparing the fattest nation in the world to countries here a large percentage of the population walks or bikes everywhere they go.

I'm thinking a $124mil bonus would screw up KR's personality. Let's make it a new set of tires for his car instead.

Sounds great to me! I'm in the so poor I buy tires 2 at a time and wait until they're on sale category!

I'm sorry for dragging this board into the politics of medical care. I learned last week that due to the combination of lowering reimbursements (primarily from Medicare) and sky high malpractice insurance ($500,000+), the number of Neurosurgeons has dropped from 4800 in 2000 to 2200 currently with a net attrition of 200 per year. Hope no one needs a brain tumor removed or a brain hemorrhage treated urgently!

I'm off to go watch the Super Bowl and see if the New England Cheatriots can beat the Giants and have a Perfect* Season.  :-\

KR, there are still plenty of openings over where I am at. Everyone is in dire need of medics You could have that 300,000 paid off in less than 2 years ;)

pete, I watched the game, and if you thought it was a quiet 36 saves, it must have looked a lot different in person than on the tube. It was one of those games where one team dominates the other, while the goalie for the dominated team has a horseshoe up his a$$. I could see it coming all night though. The Caps must have had the puck in the Atlanta zone for abot 70% of the night, but either missed the net, shot it right at Lehtinen (Which is also a credit to his positioning) or Lehtinen made an unbelivable save. On one shot from Ovie at the blue line, the angle from behind the net showed that there was no way he could see the puck because of a screen, but he puts his glove out and plucks it out of the air. I might also remind you that just before the all-star break, the Caps hung 6 on the Sens, and just before that 8.

I would just like to point out that if you go back and check my predictions, the Super Bowl is going exactly like I said it would at the three quarter mark.  Trust me...  There's no need to really go back and check.

Ret,
While 36 saves without a goal is a super night in anybody's book and that long shot by 8 was an impressive save, I just thought the Caps shot selection was lousy. I'd love to see a chart of where their shots came from -- the Thrasher d let them control the puck (and dominate possession) around the perimeter. As you mentioned he played excellent position -- real difficult for a tall keeper -- and I thought he did an great job avoiding sloppy rebounds most of the night. Ovechkin also missed a wide, wide open net early on.

I'm not saying he didn't have a great game overall  -- he did. But with many SOG's, there should have been more decent chances. The Caps weren't battling in the slot. Usually with that save count, there's a full highlight reel of the spectacular. Too many bad angler and weak shots in the Caps' count. It wasn't Bobby Mason (now the Wild goalie coach) vs. the Isles ...

Fortunately for me, Uncle Sam aka the Navy aka you loving taxpayers paid for my med school so I am debt free financially even though I do owe about 10 years of my life!
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Nice one Giants!!!  Looks like Belichick decided to pull the page from Moss' playbook and took off early.  Must be a member of the CAC... ???

Well, that went just like I expected (no peeking on past posts).   AFAYK, I'm right 100% of the time.

I personally thought it was chicken$hat for Belichick to throw the challenge flag on the punt-12 men on the field call.  The guy was no where near being involved in the play and was at least partially off the field.  One of my guests, a NE guy, argued, the rules are the rules.  Using that rational, Belichick should not have run onto the field with 1 second left and with one snap yet to be taken and should have not left the field.  Not a big fan of his right now.

Anyone have any info on the newest Belichick cheating allegations stemming from the Rams-Pats Super Bowl?

Happy Super Bowl to everyone.  Went out and bought some...Hamm's.  Thought I'd give it another try.  Take or give the points....what a quandry.

Cold and rainy here today, 46 degrees and wet, again.  Oh, well, just an excuse to give this Hamm's stuff a shot.

I think the culprit is from the NW  board.

How did your guests like the Hamm's?

Do I feel like crap or what. My eyes hurt worse when they are closed than when they're open.

My guests drank the Corona...I drank the Hamm's.  Janesville's quote is very appropriate as to how I feel.  Might have been the Patron though.  Certainly not my wife's chili.  No late night shift for me tonight.  I will spread the +k to try to make up for the smiter.

Very happy to have been wrong.  Way to go, G-men.

Now, back to the MIAC off-season - hockey and hot stove league.

I think it is a great day when All Decade player for both the Vikings and the Broncos, Gary Zimmerman finally make is into the Hall of Fame. +k allaround on that  ;)

It is good to see linemen make the HOF, but it makes me a little sick to see one of the best of his era not make it.  I am speaking of Bob Kuchenberg, just made all pro as a guard, center and tackle and was the best lineman the Dolphins had all through the seventies.  He was better than Larry Little and Jim Langer, they are both in the hall but Kuch still waits.
