Any confirmation out there?  Without a link posted I am more than a bit skeptical.

Thanks Gray Fox, I guess that is what happens when I book mark PP and don't go through the news as well.

I gotta say, that's Meidty surprising news.

He certainly drew a lot of talent to St. Olaf.  Turning that talent into a disciplined, effective team?  Maybe he'll have better luck with professional players...

Also, WTF is going on in Washington?  Zorn gets hired as OC, then is promoted to head coach 2 weeks later, but may or may not be able to hire his own coaches, one of which is a head coach from a D-III school who will be working under an OC that has not yet been hired?  Huh?

I know next-to-nothing about Chris Meidt, the Oles, or, for that matter, the chaos that is the 'skins, but your middle paragraph piques my curiosity.  With free agency, I suppose 'drew a lot of talent' is not totally irrelevant, but I would think a pro assistant's job is much more focused on "[t]urning that talent into a disciplined, effective team".  It would certainly seem that his best attributes are backwards for the new job.

First off, congratulations to Meidt on the new position.  It certainly is an honor to go from Northfield to the NFL (and THAT never happens!).

But I think many on PP did not expect Meidt to stay at St. Olaf forever-- or even long-term-- though I am a bit surprised he went to the NFL.

Nevertheless, good luck to him and best wishes...and take the Florowegians with 'ya!

So now we have another MIAC job opening up.  Any names?  Gordie Shaw, perhaps?

From a talented team that couldn't get over the hump on Saturday ... to a talented team that can't get over the hump on Sundays ...

Mr. Snyder -- courtesy title required for all employees -- is like a fat rich kid with a chemistry set, throwing all kinds of parts together and watching them go poof.

From Norv Turner to Terry Robiskie to Marty Schottenheimer to Steve Spurrier to Joe Gibbs to  Jim Zorn ... all since 2000.

I saw someone say recently that coaching three years in the NFL qualifies for an NFL pension.  Beats doing 20 on the police force, which itself is a sweet deal (at least out here).

Does Bethel have another assistant that is ready to move to a head job...would hate to break a trend that has turned around that program ;) ;D

I expected Meidt to stay five years, and he lasted 6 years.  I wish him the best in his new position even if it is with the Dedskins.  It is always tough to leave a head coaching position to be an assistant, but this is a once in a lifetime chance.  Many people will say what they want about Coach Meidt, but you need to see what he brought to the Northfield community.  I know a lot of members of the community will miss him and his family.

It appears that St. Olaf will conduct a national search.  The position is a little more lucrative than in past years, but St. Olaf needs to find someone quickly.

I also feel sorry for the Assistant Coaches and other individuals affiliated with the program.  Many of them were probably planning to coach this spring and fall, but now that might be in jeopardy.  Part of me is wondering if Coach McCarthy (current DC) would be a candidate for the position.  I still think that St. Olaf will spend some time looking for the best candidate.

CONGRATULATIONS CHRIS MEIDT! He is a good man, and I am incredibly happy for him and his family.
However, the Oles can now say goodbye to any type of recruiting class that they might have had.  And in regards to the search for a new coach, I think that Olaf need not look any further than their current D-line coach, Justin Lerfald.  He has the respect of the players, and has great knowledge of the game.  He is familiar with the talent already on the team, and players want to play for him.
And yeah, the assistant coaches are in a crappy position, and I feel bad for them.
