Oooh, just realized - this is three birds!  It's something special for Summander as well.

Gun halts deposition in Reggie Bush case

Should the NCAA declare him retroactively ineligible during the 2005 season, the Heisman Trust would be forced to determine whether to strip the award. The NCAA's investigation could also impact USC's 2004 and 2005 seasons, including the Trojans' 2004 national championship. [/i]

Tmert, Still hate'n on my Trojan's are you? I haven't even brought up anything nasty about the Golden Domers lately!

. It does tell me that Reggie Bush is probably not the most honorable and upstanding kid to ever enter USC.

My .02. ;)
Not when you got OJ  ;)

Sets the bar rather low doesn't it! :D

And I must admit I got to see OJ at the old Memorial Stadium when USC played the Gophers in the early 60's. :-\

finsleft, will you be heading to the EelPout Fest this weekend in Walker? Anyone else on the board making an appearance?

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make a Walker appearance. Best of luck to you and all pouters this weekend.
Saturday we're having the annual Pearl Lake fishing contest, 1-3 p.m. Last year a 2 lb. northern won $200  :o Anyone with a bad case of cabin fever should c'mon out. Our OJ will have a shot of vodka in it. 8)

Similar to the Gopher basketball team's record being expunged from the Clem Haskins fiasco. They can go ahead an take the wins away on paper, but we all know what happened on the field. Does this taint that? Not in my mind. It does tell me that Reggie Bush is probably not the most honorable and upstanding kid to ever enter USC.

Had to do something to bring you out of lurking status.

But if Bush really was ineligible, don't you think that does taint what happened on the field?  It sucks for everyone else, but it's not the third string guard we're talking about here.

Judge JR, I was there as well. 1968 I believe it was.

(edit. from UofM website - 1968 .... USC (60,820, attendance)

It is all on the MIAC website.

But total penalties, however, weren't the question  ...

Aren't you paying attention? Facts don't matter in America. If we "FEEL" something, it must be the case. We've had a growing economy, and growth in jobs for over five years, but "I feel the economy is bad."

In case you missed it, nice column last Sunday by the Daily Planet's Dave Deland, with a nod to SJU football:

DeLand column: Seniors make the best fans

Published: February 10. 2008 12:30AM

A reader from St. Cloud sent me a postcard the other day, and it literally made me laugh out loud (or, as the kids like to say, "LOL").

Its message referenced my column of last Sunday, which rhetorically asked how Vikings fans would feel when Randy Moss won a Super Bowl ring (a prediction that turned out to be somewhat less than prescient):

"Sir: The (posterior portal) Randy won't get his Super Bowl ring. Couldn't happen to a un-nicer guy."

The card was signed, although we won't divulge his name here; I'm relatively certain he didn't intend for it to be published. Anyway, that's not the point.

The point is this: I'm pretty sure the writer was a senior citizen. And I'm also pretty sure that senior citizens are absolutely, positively the most devoted sports fans.

Sports are usually thought of as the domain of youth, and perhaps they are from a performance standpoint. But there's no age demographic that follows sports more closely, cares about them more deeply or has better historical context on them than seniors.

Perhaps this observation seems a bit self-serving coming from somebody who last year started getting correspondence from the AARP (maybe 50 is really the new 65).

But it's also true. Many senior citizens have spent decades building their sporting loyalties, and their appreciation.

They started following sports when things were markedly different — in some cases better, in some cases not. There certainly are more options now, particularly for women's sports and televised sports, and a lot more money involved.

But it's not really about the money for senior sports fans. It's about their team, their sport, their passion for both. And it only gets stronger with age.

Need proof? Go out to a St. John's football game sometime and check out the crowd, which often reaches the 10,000 range. A sizable portion of those in the main grandstand are senior citizens who've been there for decades — same faces, same seats, absolute devotion.

There's lots of students, too, many of them in the bleachers in the north end zone. They're out in force on those beautiful autumn days.

But when the Johnnies' postseason rolls around — when it's November and December and it's cold and daunting — the student representation can be a bit sparse. The old-timers, meanwhile, still show up: all bundled up, but all there.
Sometimes, seniors physically just can't attend. But even then, they're often the most devoted watchers and listeners: a Twins or Vikings broadcast is something that shut-ins and people on fixed incomes can build their day around.

Broadcast blackouts affect seniors more than younger viewers. So do stadium issues: Seniors might miss a relocated team the most, but it also might be more of a financial hardship for somebody on a fixed income to be asked to help pay for a billionaire's new ballpark.

It never hurts to view these issues from a senior context. Perhaps everybody should: Not only do they have seniority, but they're simply the best fans.
