Just received the following notice from the SJU Athletic Department ...

Game-time for the Saint John's season opener vs. East Texas Baptist on Sept. 6 has been moved from 1 p.m. to 11 a.m.

WTF - do the Baptists have a plane to catch or are they witnessing at a Saturday afternoon service in Grand Rapids?   Or perhaps they don't want their fans gettin' all crazy at the Stiftungfestivities.  

Or perhaps even more likely, SJU has rented the stadium for a high school game in the late afternoon - the inaugural Orville Redenbacher High School Classic (... and if you turn to page 53 of your program and find a red stamp on the Orville Redenbacher ad, you'll get free admission and a pizza!)

Whatever, it puts a definite crimp in the day's festivities.

bennie & stanbob will have to take it easy on TGIF or miss the first half    -- and it will be over by then  I certainly wouldn't want to have to have a Redenbacher Rally that early

EDIT: And we have theme song and video.  And yes, I know it is 'smiting', but who can think of a serial killer that ends in an 'ite' sound or something similar.  Maybe PC can change the text of the 'smite' link so we can be more creative.

It's a 2am Sunday morning start for me, on the 7th.  But the Frenchies will be living large as they listen to the game at 6pm Saturday night before heading out for dinner and then the weekly shower and change of undies.

I'll take Foppa on one leg for the rest of the season at $1M if he helps get into the playoffs  8)
Even then the Avs probably can't go far in the playoffs

Now now, no disrespect to Baptists, Grand Rapids or the Oz family was intended.  And you'll not fare well with our Bethel bretheren if you suggest that there is something wrong with Baptists worshipping in Grand Rapids.

Who can take the Wings out this year

From what I have seen lately, the Wings goaltending!!! No other team required!

When I was watching the BlueJacket/Leafs game, the Hockey Night in Canada announcers were complaining about how the trapezoid rule for goaltenders was put in place as a reaction to the two or three goalies that were good at handling the puck. Then one of the annoucers said that they obviously had not watched the Dominik Hasek highlight reel. That made me laugh out loud. Nothing like picking on a player that isn't even playing in the game they are announcing!

WTF is going on here? I leave for 5 days and come back to find out the opener starts at 11?!?! Looks like the mayor might just have to take out his veto pen. 
If it turns out that this was insisted on by East Texass, I say we score a hundred on 'em.

The Wings have gone from Mighty to flighty rather quickly. It's amazing what happens when the playoffs roll around. I might remind all that the Hurricanes and the Lightning won back-to-back cups. If you would have bet that line in Vegas, you'd be retired like me.

Tonight it's the Caps/Wild game. I hate to turn my back on the "home" squad, but the Caps need the victory more. Both teams have been playing well, without reward lately, sometimes with a little negative assist from the men in stripes.

The Caps just picked up Sergei Fedorov!! Apparently they didn't feel they had enough Russians!

And Adam Foote is on his way back to Colorado!!!

Apparently the Jackets have decided that they are going to give up on a playoff run and are cleaning house!
