So, you folks all know that 3 Stout students died about 2 blocks away from where I office in a fire last Friday night.

For some unbelievable reason, these people from a Kansas church showed up to protest on campus yesterday, holding up signs that these nice kids must have led evil lives so that's why they were killed by God.

The Stout students, mostly from Wiscy and Minny, were not going to put up with that:

I drove by campus like 5 times yesterday. I would have joined in with the students had I known. Way to go UW-Stout students.

They came to the hassle the Stout families?  I had heard there was a hooha in Wiscy with those pricks, but I didn't know it was for the Stout families.  Unbelievable sick evil bastards.

Oz and Ralph,

Thank you for your courteous and thoughtful replies.  I should have gone to bed hours ago, and will try to reply tomorrow when I am more awake! ;)
I know!   :-\   :D   :)

At least I got my 4 REM cycles of sleep last night.

BDB, sounds like these are the same clowns that show up at funerals of GI's killed in Iraq with signs such as "God loves IED's".  Unbelievable what these alleged people do in the name of God.
Everyday is payday in paradise.

Which 2/3rd's of High Quality do you want?   ::)

Ha!  Just the upper two-thirds, thanks.  You can leave off the bottom third of low quality.  No worries.
Actually, what I have discovered is that I have to deliver the other 1/3 in terms of quality.  I no longer just go to the doctor when I have a problem.

The first thing I do is research my symptoms on the Internet.  Some amazing message boards out there.  (Not recommended for  hypochondriacs however). From this research I get an idea about the range of possible causes, the medical terminology involved and some good ideas on how to accurately describe my symptoms to the doc.

Then I present my story to the doc and we have a high quality conversation.

I came upon this approach a few years ago after suffering through some horrible shoulder and knee pain that came about gradually without any apparent event to cause it.  Blindly went to my GP who sent my to the physical therapist he was affiliated with, who put me on a several month regimen of massage and exercises, none of which ever done any good.  In my job I had run into several clients who had experienced severe joint deterioration from over prescription of statins, so I looked up all the side effects of my medications, one of which is Zocor, a statin.  I found numerous descritpions of the full set of symptoms I was experiencing.  So, I presented my PT doc with the possibility that my problem was the long term effect of a statin overdose.  He dismissed this possibility.  I finished out the prescribed pt regimen, (still with no improvement) made a follow up apt with my GP and asked him to write a prescription for the low end recommended dose of Zocor. (the doc who prescribed this to me originally started at the high end, unbeknownest to me).  Started taking the reduced dose and within two weeks all symptoms were gone.  Next blood test showed no deterioration in my cholesteral.  No return of joint symptoms in the last three years.

My point to the lumbering tale is that we can't rely on the system for quality care, we need to educate ourselves, ask questions and really understand how powerful these little pills are that we so readily take. :-*

Oh, and all doc's in this process were highly qualified, long time practitioners, one of which actually was highly awarded in his field.  So I wasn't the victim of any quacks.

While living in Wichita, I came upon these jokers many times.  Such fun to have to navigate a gauntlet of poster size pictures of aborted fetuses on the way to a basketball game or some other unrelated event.

I have always been amazed at the perverted activites in this world that are done in the name of God and religion but that group takes the cake!  I will never understand how some peoples thinking can be so twisted! The additional pain that something like that must inflict on the loved ones of those lost must be immeasurable.  Again, my love, thoughts and prayers go out to the victims families, the students and community of UW-Stout!  Way to go!

Well, that was fun.  Back to our regularly scheduled programming...

I'm hitting the hay.  Got a full day tomorrow: #1 has tennis lessons followed training for a x-country run, #2 has little league footy followed by gymnastics, and #3 is just hell on wheels.

All this discussion has me thinking my old family doctor was right.  He urged colleagues not to accept HMO's, that they would take medical care out of the doctors hands.  Not many listen to him and others like him.

My aunt was formerly a vice president of two hospitals.  She started out as an RN and moved up as her career continued.  Her biggest complaint is that the people running the insurance companies were not medical people and did not understand the medical world.  They look at everything in terms of dollars and cents, and she feels you can't apply pure business tactics to health insurance.

My feeling is we do not need the government to run the health care system.  We need the government to reign in the insurance industry.  They need to reign in the pharmacuetical industry, we are paying for all the recalls and lawsuits with increased prices.

Socialized medicine can work in a country like Sweden or Norway, basically any small country with a small population.  It cannot work in a country like the United States, we are too big.  It would be almost impossible to regulate and oversee.  The people put in charge would be political cronies and very possibly not qualified to do what they are supposed to do.

I have been searching for the D3 Healthcare debate board for a long time...thankfully I've finally found it...

What a sick state of mind when you believe as a member of God's chosen few that you have nothing better to do than search the country for bad news and then drive hundreds of miles just to aggravate an already terrible situation.

Lord Stanley ....here we come

The Pens won their first game in the first round of the playoffs. Using this theory, the Canadiens, the Red Wings, the Avs, the Rangers, and the Stars can all make the same claim (and with any luck, the Caps!). I think it is a little early to be getting out the silver polish! ;D
