Sorry for the recent hiatus, seems there's a lot of paperwork and drinking to be done the week before graduation!

They're just getting you ready for life in the Navy; paperwork and drinking is what the military is all about! ;)

We had two actual docs [need to be clear here since corpsmen are called 'doc'] on the Midway when I was on it - one wizened old alcoholic and one poor guy who was drafted out of his surgery residency at Mayo and spent the next two years doing short arm inspections and handling IBS complaints.  So if you get 'lucky,' KR, you'll get some shipboard duty. :P

Anyway, congratulations on the hard work and the accomplishment.

Good grief, haven't heard the term " short arm inspections" in 35 years or better. +k for making me think of something besides this damn flu I have.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Nice article on a new/old SJU assistant football coach whom some of you no doubt know.

What's with all these colon problems in Central MN?

Congratulations, KR!  Remember, operate on the limb that is marked. ;)

Dr. KR, remember if you have to do short arm inspections, all you need to say is "skin it and wring it sailor"  and the occasional "HEY! Don't wave that thing so close to my face".  That pretty much covers the short arm inspection procedure.

Congratulations on becoming a Dr.  Remember you are the doctor, Doc is the corpsman.

One last bit of information about military medicine...

As a general rule, listen to what your NCO's have to say!  (You'll learn who the good ones are!)

They have more street smarts than you can imagine!  ;)

That is correct. I became Ensign KR when I started med school

Thanks all for all the congrats and well wishes. It's been a long road and there have been a number of times where I've come home after a rough day of exams or rotations and come on here and read a debate about the merits of Anna K or which beer goes best with Eelpout or any other number of great subjects covered on here that give me no choice but to smile and relax a bit!

Absolutely 100% true. One of the first CPO Corpman I met at a Navy hospital pulled me aside and asked if he could be brutally honest, I agreed and this is what he told me, "Always remember, the smartest Doctors in the Navy are the ones who listen to their NCO and aren't afraid to turn to their NCO's when they need advice or have a question. They end up working as a team. The dumb ones know they can do it on their own and have to fall flat on their face to learn otherwise."

Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

Nice to see the DR in front of that name.  Gives me hope for #2 son for two years from now.  Do you get some time off now or do you have to report ASAP?  Good luck and keep your head down!

BTW, don't you think Dr. Kilted Rat sounds kinda like Dr. Kildare? In fact, you can use the letters from "Kilted Rat" to spell "Kildare" - and when you do you have three letters left over ... TDT !!! :o :o  Coincidence?  I think not!  :P :-X
