tmerton-
Never did make it to the HOP that night. Should we call the State Department and report Duffman missing in Mexico?

He's probably doing his Old Man and the Sea thing and getting towed around the gulf by some marlin.  I'm sure the Coast Guard or the federales will return him once they pick him up.  Heaven knows they wouldn't keep him (think Ransom of Red Chief)!

PS: I see you're back to the little red x! 8)

Johnnie Red

Tmerton, sorry I have had to dial things down since I have gotten on the bench a little over a year ago. I would still like to get Paris up to Collegeville for a Johnnie game. I'm thinking that it would be wonderful to have her there for homecoming when we host the Gusties on September 27. We would probably want to invite former Gustie Ryan Hoag to also be present in the hope that he and Paris could "hook up" and form a loving relationship.

As to life in Carver County, it is wonderful as always.  :D

For those of you that didn't get enough skiing in last winter, Aspen Mountain
will open this Fri., Sat., & Sun. - June 13-15.  :)
They still have 3 feet of snow and could get more.
At this time of year when Britney or Paris ski, they could get sunburnt rather than frostbitten ummmm............ cheeks ???   ;D
The older the violin - the sweeter the music!

Got a question for you MIAC'ers? I was watching an episode of Dirty Jobs and the guy Mike Rowe was in Minnesota.  The "dirty job" was recovering vehicles from lakes after the car fell through the ice.

Is this a big industry in Minnesota?

Is driving on ice covered lakes a normal activity?

JT-
I wouldn't go so far as to call it big industry, but there are people (& towing companies) who have figured out a way to make a few bucks off of car retrieval. And, yes, driving on the ice would have to be considered "normal" although many normal folks will refuse to do it.

Dirty Jobs said that the owner must retrieve the vehicle ASAP.  Gas in the tank... polution...  They have to wait for the lake to freeze over again.  Then they drill a big hole and dive hooking the car up to a big floating device. Then the use a wench device to bring it up.

JT, That episode was filmed on a lake about 4 miles from Sum's house! Spring fed lake so those that aren't aware of that can get a surprise. The diving company that was doing the recovery was sworn to secrecy prior to the filming or they risked the whole thing being scrapped!

MIDWEST CONFERENCE HISTORY BOOK: NO ORDINARY CONFERENCE

George Drake, a former Midwest Conference student-athlete and 1956 Grinnell College graduate, has culminated a project he calls "a labor of love" with the completion of the 100-page soft cover book No Ordinary Conference, an introspective history of the Midwest Conference. The Midwest Conference office is making the book available to the general public at a discounted price via the Order Form linked below for a limited time only (a small number of copies may be available at full price after the ship date). Orders are expected to ship in September.

Drake, who remains a professor at his alma mater, teamed with 2001 Grinnell grad John Aerni to provide a unique look at the league's history through interviews with Midwest Conference student-athletes and unprecedented access to league minutes.

No Ordinary Conference includes the accounts of numerous student-athletes and chronicles over 80 years of history from the league's formation through the men's and women's conference unification and beyond. No Ordinary Conference also features a 34-page photo gallery of some of the conference's all-time great athletes, coaches and administrators.

Sworn to secrecy?  About what?  ???  That they were actually in the Dakotas? :D

It does make one wonder how many cars Flash has lost in this fashion. ;D

Rugman

Mainly just making an appearance.  Lot's of weird stuff on the board today.  BTW those towing companies also get some business from the guys who snowmobile across stretches of open water.

The White Silly

Hello Board!  It's good to be back.  I just returned from a 2 week stay in Banff, AB, Canada.  Great trip.  Truly great.  I drove my ol' Ford Escort up there solo's to do enjoy some quiet meadows and thundering waterfalls.  Banff did not disappoint.  Many great options up there.  Anywho, on to more important matters...d3 football.  Here's my predictions for the upcoming MIAC season top 5 finishes: 1) Augsburg 2) Bethel 3) St. Johns 4) Concordia 5) Carelton....I also think that St. Thomas will come in last, just like Big Brown at the Belmont.  Ok, I'll be back sooner than later, but I need to go watch "Dick Tracy" on my new dvd player.
