I see how this works.  When it's some wimpy little sturgeon you staight arm it to make it look bigger for the camera. But when it's her whopper, you just let it hang there. ;D ;D

Not sure if this information has been posted here yet but former Johnnie standout receiver Todd Fultz was seriously injured in car accident this past week.  He was a hell of a receiver and is one hell of a nice guy.  Here is a link to a Caring Bridge page about his situation.

That link didn't work.  Here's Todd's link.

He's in my prayers.

SJU should look to attract a couple Fijian's for running backs

Kinda hard when John won't recruit out of state.  So it's up to you, Oz.  Get those boys a parka and some fur covered flip-flops and send them on their way!

Sorry about the bad link....Todd is the kind of guy that would always have 5-10 minutes to stop and talk to a person if you ran into him.  I'll always remember how he would point to his little brother up in heaven every time he scored a touchdown.

I recall a kid from Omaha playing for SJU last season.  Do you get many out of state kids with no recruiting out of state.  I am sure there are kids that go because dad or uncles attended.

What say you, tmerton?  Any out-staters?

(About four or five pages ago, tmerton pointed out that out state Johnnies went looking for SJU, because Gagliardi didn't go looking for them.)

I did?  I still don't remember (I feel like Flash!). However, that seems to be the policy, so the out-of-state kids pretty much have to recruit themselves to SJU (even some who don't have SJU family contacts :o).  That's why we need you to recruit these Fiji kids.

By four or five pages ago, of course I mean two or so years ago on the SCIAC board...  I followed OxyBob's link from yesterday or the day before and you had a post there explaining to the SCIACers how SJU got outstate people.

I find it really hard to believe that out of the 2300 or so posts you have made since your son first considered SJU that you cannot instantly recall the post I mistakenly identified.

You need to tell me when you're using dog years.  (As a sideways salute to Snoop, the SCIAC board was indeed almost morabund until he came along; Pat should give him a medal for the additional traffic he's brought to the boards.)

Off to Hawaii for a few days - on business actually (no sh!t, at least for the first two days anyway).  Aloha to all!

At the instant I post this it is:

86 days, 4 hours, 3 minutes and 53 seconds

Until the opener against East Texas Baptist.

From sports editor Dave DeLand's column in today's Daily Planet:

But expectations also can establish a self-fulfilling prophecy. They can set a standard, give a team a benchmark to live up to.

The St. John's football team lives with the pressure of championship expectations every year. But that track record also builds a quiet confidence and lends an aura of invincibility. Perhaps because of that, the expectation gets met more often than not.

Good teams make expectations part of their swagger, part of their identity.

Right on!

One of the unintended consequences of Post Patterns is that some of us actually become close friends via meeting on this site.

finsleft and I discovered that back in the '80s when I lived in St. Cloud my wife worked on his campaign for state office. Apparently not hard enough.  ;)

Anywho, tomorrow night it's finsleft, me and a few thousand other people hanging out in Rice Lake Wiscy at Aquafest. Outdoor concert, beer, hot chicks not wearing much, etc.

Difference is between fins and me and the other several thousand is that the fins and I will be backstage with Diamond Rio beforehand hanging with the band, and all of our Hamm's will be free.

Or at least pre-paid;D
