A few weeks ago I was driving on Wilshire Blvd.    I was trying to remember where the Fox Inn was.  I was in my first year of law school when I was last there.  Ahhhh, fond memories.

Fox - We ruggers used to sing the "No Balls At All" song at our post game festivities. We also would tell the story of the Ooh Aah bird,. That bird would fly in ever decreasing concentric circles until he flew up his own A$$h0le screaming "Ohh Aah, Oooh Aaah!"

Pat - What will be the parameters for keeping/deleting posts?

Pat Coleman

I have a few things in mind.

1. We're going to end up paring the pick 'em boards back to zero and having them start over for 2008-09.

2. In-game score update boards will be next on the list.

3. Yes, large boards will be a prime target, which includes this one. I don't have an easy way to surgically remove posts so they will be lopped. It will be old posts, 2005-06 season.

I feel like I need to get either 100,000 posts (out of 526,000) off the board, or about 75 MB out of the 390 MB of the database table.

Basically, the table is crapping out when it's trying to repair itself, which it appears is because it's taking more space than we have when it backs itself up.

I feel guilty for contributing to the problem with this post! :-[

1.  Sounds highly reasonable, but could season standing be salvaged for bragging rights (of which I have very few!)?

2.  An obvious spot which should clear many thousands (though some individual games are worth occasionally re-reading).

3.  A shame, but perhaps unavoidable.  (I'm sure I'm highly unusual to enjoy occasionally re-reading very old posts.)

What would it take monetarily to upgrade sufficiently to avoid deleting 'history'?  I've sometimes wished I could read posts from long before the earlier upgrade - I doubt I'm the only one who would consider contributing to no further losses.  (Would simply deleting threads not posted on in 120 days [and, yes, I just re-opened one in baseball a few minutes ago! ;)] make any significant dent in the problem?)

Bill "Spaceman" Lee pitched (and won) the Midnight Sun Game last night here in Fairbanks, his number was 733 (LEE) upside down.

I assume that this is the reason the board was not accessible on Saturday?

Maybe we could just go back and delete some of our dumb posts. I could delete, well,......all of them, including this one.

Yeah -- it's the second Saturday breakdown we've had in short order and with some rather big Saturdays on the horizon we have to take kinda drastic measures.

Ypsi: Unfortunately the dormant threads are also rather small. While I'll delete short-lived dormant conversations, it won't get us very far. Indeed, I'll maintain final standings in pick 'ems if the post is obvious -- I did with WIAC and MIAC basketball last night.

I think upgrading is beyond our means right now, and possibly beyond the means of the software. There are probably sites that have more than the half-million posts we have on this freeware but not sure what they do.

We're already running everything else on a dedicated server: D3football/D3hoops/D3baseball/D3soccer/D3jobs. Boards is on a different server so that a crash on one doesn't affect the other and vice versa. Boards is on shared space that we can't afford to upgrade right now.
