Tomorrow is get-away day for our trip to MN.  Late afternon flight to MSP then drive far enough to get out of the metroplex and a start on the trip.  Next day up to Duluth and Two Harbors, then due north for Ely.  Thursday we strap the canoes to a DeHavilland and head north to Mountie country (eh).  Five days later we'll be back in Ely, hopefully with a few fish pictures in hand.  For you natives, just think of it as the Northern Minnesota version of City Slickers.  We'll see how these city kids handle the skeeters, moose, et al. - not to mention the old man. :D

Got a text from finsleft from Yankee Stadium last night:

Subject: "Greetings from the B"
Unable to download.

So, I took that as "Greetings from the Big Apple" with something else too big for my lame phone to handle.

I sent one back telling fins the message didn't download.

Message #2 from finsleft: "I sent a photo from seats. We're getting frickin' shelled.
Greetings to all on MIACPP."

So, consider finsleft's message delivered.  8)

Can't you talk the happy couple into having the ceremony at 56321 and then the Stiftungfestivity could serve as the reception?  8)

Dr KR  good news today he passed.  He will start his rotations off with a good one.  One near and dear to everyone's heart here.  He starts with a two week one on sports medicine.  Hope all is going well with you out there.

Tell him congrats!  It's a great feeling knowing you passed! He found out quick, it was a full 2.5 months before I knew.

Tell him I said welcome to the best 2 years of med school!

They now have a webstie to check if you passed or failed.  He did not get his score.  It just lists whether you passed or failed.  He is looking forward to it.

You mean it's a wedding of two women?  Is it out here?

No, it's a traditional wedding, but we all know who makes the decisions.

Ahem, not all females would make this mistake! :o Some don't have their priorities straight!! I can remember threatening to skip my high school graduation ceremony if it conflicted with an NBA playoff game. Needless to say my parents and the slew of family members that drove six hours to attend were relieved that it did not come to that. One just has to remember what is really important in life! :D

Huge hypothetical:

What would it take to get Carlos Lee from the Astro's?

Imagine if the Twins could add in .306 22 HR's and 80 RBI's with a .550 slugging!

That's 80 RBI's on a team that is 24th in the bigs in On Base Percentage despite Berkman's OBP of .439.

Of note:

YEAR     AGE     SALARY
2008     32       $12.5M
2009     33       $18.5M
2010     34       $18.5M
2011     35       $18.5M
2012     36       $18.5M

Of course, one of the reasons that the Astros' OBP is so low is that Carlos Lee, while he has a decent batting average and good power, is averse to taking walks himself.  He's been a good-but-not-great player his entire career (his OPS has never been more than 27% above league average in a full season, Kent Hrbek's OPS was 28% better than his league over his entire career).  He has negative baserunning and defensive value.  The Twins already have Delmon Young, Michael Cuddyer, Denard Span, and Jason Kuble to cover corner OF/DH.  He's fat.  Etc., etc., etc.

Is that the kind of player that you want to be paying $18.5M to when he's 36?

Also, he has a no-trade clause through 2010.

I feel your pain, Duff.  While I will be at the Hawks home opener early enjoying the first tailgate of the year, I found out about 2 months ago that I will be in Iowa for a wedding and will miss the UW-W/UW-LC game. After last years epic come-from-behind win by the Hawks in the  last 11 minutes of that game, I'm betting that the fans will need machete's to cut the tension in the Perk for this years match up!!

Thought you Johnnie Fans might enjoy this:

Had lunch at the Saint Paul Grille today with the director of sales and marketing.  the restaurant manager stopped by who happened to be the manager at Majors in Golden Valley back when the Johnnies beat Mount Union for the Stagg and the party back in Minnesota was held there.

He said that saturday is still the record food and beverage sales day for any saturday since that place opened.

My thought is SHOULD the Johnnies return to the Stagg this year you won't have a problem finding a place to gather to watch!!
