Austin Murphy's latest paean about Clemens Stadium, gags, and SJU, as pointed out yesterday in Frank's Blog.

I like how the picture is of John and the field--while they were still putting the turf in!  That was 2002  :o

This is good for a laugh. Radar Magazine has come up with the worst colleges in America.

Next time someone drags out the old and tired "Johnnies are gay" bit, we can point out that this isn't Deep Springs College! There is no yearly "naked lunch"...or at least I am unaware of one! ;) Hmmm...with some of the pictures that ended up in the Record on April 1st, there did seem to be quite a few "naked" events I was unaware of... They definitely made me think twice about using any of the seats in the Alcuin Library! 8)

TC;

A belated thank you for the preseason primer of yours at JohnnieFootball.com.  Thanks for feeding the beast.

Duff, just got back from Hawaii, spend a day off the Kona coast and caught 2 blue marlin, abot 175 lbs each.  My buddy got one over 300 lbs.  Caught them in "The Pond".  Lots of fun.  Played Kapalua Plantation course, very difficult.

Got to see the son play last weekend in a scrimmage, sure felt good to see him playing and happy.

Fins, that is some pretty funny stuff.  (No azz kissing involved)

D3football.com asks is bethel ready for the big leagues?  Since they have a cover story in the Kickoff 2008 mag.  I look forward to watching bethel sink back into the cellar of the MIAC, possibly slowly but surely.

Great play on the deflection game, but with a bit over a week to go we know it is the Cobbers who have the best chance of breaking it big this year.  You return 19 starters, is it?

We'll keep our eyes on border colonies, that's for sure.

The only question will be the starting O-line.  If they can protect Nelson he should have a good year.

Here's an article from a couple days ago from the ETBU folks: Clock ticking toward season opener for Tigers.

Less than a week into full-pad workouts, ETBU’s football team is coming to grips with one cold, hard fact.

Every day gets them one day closer to the season opener in Collegeville, Minn., against highly-touted and tradition-rich St. John’s.

It's mostly talk about transfers and such that they have, but it's still something to read.

...   ...   ... ::)  Did anyone else just hear something? ;D

Actually, BU will line up in Week 1 with a few unknown commodities.  The O-line will have some new faces but should still be good, the QB will likely be soph. Caleb Graff (offensive POY in Colorado his junior year), the offense could be more balanced this year, and there are questions needing answers on defense as well with Brandon Carr and others gone.  Admittedly, I am out of the loop here in Florabama so I don't have any big insider scoop to share.  I doubt it's going to be a rapid descent into the cellar, but scaling the heights of last year might be alot to ask of this year's team.   Then again, nobody expected last year's team to do what they did, either.  The first two weeks will be very telling, with two solid opponents in Conc. Wis. who BU beat in the playoffs last year, and away at Wheaton which is a team Bethel has been wanting to play for many years.

The Cobbs seem to bring back the most from a very strong squad last year, so it could be a nice season for them.

CCKnight, I see you lurking. How about a prediction for the Hot Carls this year?

CCKnight

Not really sure how the knights will fare this year.  They've got some very talented returning players at some spots but a lot of turnover on the lines and all 3 LBs graduated.  They'll probably have one of the best recieving cores in the MIAC with Frank being healthy along with Garver, both of whom have had 1,000 yd seasons in the MIAC, along with a good TE and a Sr. QB with experience.  At RB they lose their main back, but the guy filling in got some experience last year and seems to be more of a between the tackles guy and pretty solid.  Defensively most of the D-Line will be new with the exception of Hanks who is one of the better DE in the league.  The secondary is solid and all four starters return.  If they can get guys to fit in the missing pieces and are able to stay healthy they could be pretty good.  The main problem will be depth as it usually is, with almost 100 guys less than many of the other schools in the conference (68 players on roster) to have a great season you need a little luck with injuries as well.  All in all I expect them to put up some pretty good offensive numbers with the passing game and hopefully take the next step in climbing out of the basement.

AO

It looks like our guy Hoag has a chance to make the opening day roster if they decide to look past draft position and go with pre-season production as their determining factor.   It's definitely a long shot as he has to beat out a sure-handed Troy Williamson.  ;)
