You have to turn out the lights  :D

Isn't that a Motel 6 commercial?

Well, after sitting on this for a couple hours, this is what I figure: I figure that the execution rust we saw this week will be very cleaned up next week.

Why do I figure that?  Why not?

The comment is only for those old enough to remember Dandy Don Meredith + official JOHNNIE PP announcers.  8)

cobbernation

Cobbers lost to Willamette 35-21 yesterday.  Not the start the cobbers were hoping for as they had 5 turnovers, gave up 200 yds. rushing and a 100 yd interception return for a TD.  This most likely took the wind out the sails for the cobbers as they played from behind the entire game and just couldn't get over the hump.  I look forward to the cobbers getting in the win column next weekend as they host Dickinson St. at the Jake!

Keep you heads up cobbers!

Jeeze it's 10:25 AM on the busiest PP board on the day after the start of the season and there's been on post in the last 2.5 hours.  Can't all be mired in mind-crushing hangovers can you?

My main conclusions from yesterday are that:

- ETBU was a lot better than expected
- SJU played fairly efficiently considering all the new faces and strength of the opponent.
- Jimmy the new guy at DE has some work to do. (2 assisted tackles and a lot of gains in his direction).
- The QB's were all virtually even on paper, but Crees got it done when it counted the most.
- There's not much yet behind Schnobrich and he won't hold up carrying the ball 20 times each game.  Blaser OK, hopefully will be better.
- The Offensive line needs to get a lot better on both run blocking and pass protection.
- The D line will do better against typical MIAC defenses.  Was hoping they would create a better pass rush than they did.
- The secondary is going to be OK.  Liked  the 5 busted up passes from Haik, Brown and Clint and the ability of the corners to stay with their much taller and bigger receivers.
- Number 84 for ETBU was listed at least 50 pounds lighter in the program than he really is.  His thighs alone weigh 50 pounds each.
- Someone needs to invent some noise cancelling headphones that kick in on the "p" as soon as the words "please check your program" are uttered.
- Those of us in the pickem that picked the Johnnies wished that Wimmer had tried to run his interception back for a TD instead of taking the slide, since UTBU was getting 20.5 points.

Please consider these opinions are coming from someone who has previously acknowledged that "most of the time it looks like 22 guys running around out there to me."  Was a fun day. ;D

Oles win 23-14 over Luther.  23-0 until 6:46 left in the game though.  Wasn't the prettiest win, and its safe to say that there's a new offense in town.  This isn't the type of team that's going to be passing for 350 yards a game anymore.  Defense was outstanding.  hopefully they can keep things rolling next week against Pacific Lutheran.

Good write-up, 105.  Thanks for the efforts.

A guy walks into a bar, sits down, and asks,
"Bartender, got any specials today?"
Bartender answers, "Yes, as a matter of
Fact we have a new drink, invented by
A gynecologist patron of ours.

It's a mix of Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer and Smirnoff Vodka."

The guy asks, "Good grief, what do you call that?"

The bartender replied, "It's a "Pabst Smir."

Well, I had to turn off the game in the parking lot at the wedding we went to as ETBU was driving down the field in the 4th quarter.  Talk about the worst timing ever.  Fortunately, I got a text message during the wedding to fill me in on the win.

The Johnnies sounded decent at times.  Hopefully, we can get the QB controversey figured out this week.  UWRF will be a formidable opponent.

Both Dusty and 105  :) This season's johnniefootball.com (in my humble opinion) is even better than ever. My guess is Duff or Dusty came closest in predicting.

Not sure how many of you out there would be interested but Glenn Caruso will be doing a webcast every Monday morning going over the previous week's game and looking at the week ahead.  Link is here:

The Tommies looked good on Saturday, although one could argue that is not difficult against Macalester.  However, they made some big plays on both sides of the ball with a number of key starters (including three linebackers) out due to injury.  Hopefully the bye week will give them some time to heal up and get ready for some MIAC opponents.

I'd be a lot more excited about a webcast every Monday morning with they crew going over the previous week's Stiftungfestivity  8)
If there has been a report on this year's first one, I missed it ;D
