Firstly, great game red, twas a nail bitter! Congratulations Cobbers, another tough hard nosed game played between what continues to be one of the best rivalries in DIII.  Williamson definitely was the player of the game, I think kicking 10 or more times with consistency in putting the ball in great position was key in keeping SJU at bay.  Obviously there are still questions that obviously need to be answered by both teams, but it sounds as though the BOTH defences played their hearts out and the game could have gone either way, but clearly Coach G needs to pick a QB.  The Johnnies have dominated the Win column for nearly 20 years, CC was bound to get a bounce their way at some point, especially after the clear domination of games in '05 and in '06. So well done Jesse Nelson and co. this could be the start to a MIAC title heading back to the Red River Valley.

Carlerton wins over Bethel 17-14

WOW   Is that 2 out of 3 for Ramler over Bethel?

A few quick thoughts before celebrating Grandpa Wonka's 80th bday at the Hubbell House...

1. Karma, TDT, karma. Don't call predicting a Monkey Stomp when Old Man Wonka is watching. He was JACKED that the Cobbers were up 9-6 when I got to Rochester today.

2. Gusties beat Hamline 21-14 despite 4 picks from QB Becker. The GAC pass defense finally showed though, limiting the Pipers to under 200 through the air. Hard to argue with a 2-0 start. Could we be catching the Johnnies at a good time next week? Somehow, I still doubt it...but they are certainly vulnerable.

3. Frank and Wonka will be at the Stiffyfest next weekend. Mongo is still trying to get permission from his lady friend. Developing...

4. Can I go out on a limb and predict Augsburg to win the title this year? The Auggies survived today against that dreaded Bye while the rest of the league beat itself up...

Olaf over Thomas 29-23... in 6 OT's!  14-14 at the end of regulations.  Olaf's defense has played EXTREMELY well thus far this season.  I'll be curious to see how they hold up against the top-tier teams of the MIAC in a few weeks.  Olaf needs a QB though.  Haberman's passing stats for the first quarter: 1 int for -6 points.  The kid runs well, and he calmed down and passed better as the game progressed, but he'll get worn down quickly if he doesn't protect himself better.  O-line was decent, not great but decent, and watkins and endsley are beasts.  John Michael Williams Jr. is the most dominant lineman I've seen in a long time.  He outran DB's to the ball in OT today.  He's amazing.  And Paul Schwingler (OL) has a pair of brass one's I'll say that. I think that the MIAC title is up in the air this year, and I do NOT think that any team will go undefeated in conference play.  Should be exciting.

Congratulations to the Cobbers for coming into our house and doing us.  Cobb had their way in the first quarter however Johnnie D shored up and put a stop on RB Cory Johnson.

The quarterback merry go round reached new lows when J.Boyle was inserted into the game in the second quarter with the ball on the one yard line!  One hellava time to be inserted into the game..... 2 plays later Con did the safety dance.

Jimmy G said all the problems were up front with no room for running and no room for passing.  QB #3 Jordan Hansel was throwing up prayers with the Cobb D line all over his back and arms.... plenty of fumbles too today for the Johnnies.

No QB and No Big Play Man makes DustySJU a very grumpy man...

Congrats to www.JohnnieFootball.com, The Stiftungsfest crew and all others for drumming up $622.00 big ones for Todd Fultz and family.  Todd is all over the Johnnie Football receiving records and even had a chance today to meet the "other" #2, Blake Elliott.  Keep on the road to recovery Fultzy!!!

The total was $602 following the tailgate party however I ran into Jimmy "The Shorts Guy" on the sidelines before the 3rd quarter and he slapped another $20 in my hand.  I was sure to pass that one along to Todd too.  Ok, too much info...

Sleep well...  :-*

Today was the worst offensive showing I've seen from SJU in 11 years (the 1997 team).  Good job to the Cobblers though.  The QB shifting should stop.  Keep one guy in there and stick with him.  Even though he had an intentional grounding call, I think I'd go with Boyle.  The entire offensive line needs to be replaced.  No running game? No pass blocking? Inexcusable.   There was one guy on the left side of the line that got scorched at least three times which resulted in, if I recall correctly, 2 sacks.  The defense played well at least and Bethel lost so the J's still do have a pretty good shot at winning the conference because I don't think Concordia will go through the MIAC undefeated.  I don't know if SJU is getting as good of talent on the o-line.  It's been a few years since SJU really had a very, very good running game.  I want to say 2003 with Nelson and that kid from Shakopee who quit after his sophomore season.  Weber was good but not great and none of the other running backs really stood out since 2003.  I don't think it's been the RB's necessarily.  I think the O-lines have been very soft for a few years now.  Last year's lack of running game against Bethel was really frustrating.

How do you explain the 300+ yards of offense, as opposed to the Cobbers180?

faunch

3 Things:
1. I've witnessed many SJU (MIAC) games in my time and let me say the Cobber students were the biggest bunch of A-holes ever.
2.  Worst SJU offensive showing I have ever seen.  Cobber D is good but not that good.
3. Pick a friggin' QB....FIRE JIMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!#!!@!@!@!!@@#@#@!@##$!$!@@!!~~

How in the hell did we ever get 300 yards of offense?  Pick a friggin QB and live with it!

Working the phone lines to the www.JohnnieFootball.com gang it appears this is the consensus.

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

faunch — A team won as huge underdogs on the road at the toughest place to play in the league, their contingent (who drove 3 hours) presumably goes nuts and said fans are suddenly cocky a-holes? Really? Cmon now...

familyguy — Love the report. I got much the same rundown from a former Ole a few hours back. Sounds like it was a classic!

That said, I have to disagree with one point. That Schwingler guy is actually pretty weak. Isn't he faking some sort of injury right now? Who does that? Without actually breaking down film, I'd bet he gets lucky most of the time...

(Just joking. I know the Schwingler family...his smarter siblings went to Gustavus.)

5 lost fumbles and 4 int's for the Royals in the last 2 games.   :o ???  I don't care who you are, that's a recipe for 2 losses and that's what we've got.  Congrats to Carleton on a big win for their program, and for spoiling BU homecoming.  I really can't envision a realistic scenario that will get BU into the playoffs.  They have to win out and get some miraculous help from other results out of their control :(.

Huge game now in Moorhead next weekend.  If BU can solve it's TO issues, it should be a great contest.  If the Cobbs win that one, you've got to like their chances to run the table.  Even if BU manages to win that game, the Cobbs still have the inside track to get the MIAC pool A bid, and the MIAC will only get a Pool C bid if SJU wins out.  Looking forward to being at Festivities and the game in Arden Hills in a couple weeks.  Cheers to all!

Retired Old Rat

Congrats to the Cobbers.  They did what they needed to do to win the game.

Johnnie coaches need to make a decision on quarterback.  The three headed QB merry go round isn't going to do it.

Defense, minus Gunderson, really stepped it up after not looking good early.  The goal line stand was amazing.

You sure expect the Johnnies to win when the defense gives up only 7 points.

Can't argue with the Pool A logic, but how do you figure about Pool C? Last time I checked, the MIAC has four undefeated teams. The Johnnies and Cobbers aren't either of them.
