It came back on after my post - like other posters, I think they were in mourning - or the site geek was at Mass.  ;)

What a game at collegeville yeasterday.  BOTH teams play great defensive football.  The game could have easily gone one way or another the entire time.  I personally didnt notice any fans acting inapproprately but that doesnt mean that it didnt happen.  But also just because one drunken guy or two makes a fool out of themselves, I dont think its fair to call the Cobber fans AHoles....  that seems a bit harsh.  The celebration at the end was deserved but again this is due to winning a great game, on the road, against one of the best teams in the MIAC.  Johnnie D looked fantastic yesterday also, I think the cobbers went 3-and-out most of the second half and couldnt move the chains.  It did end-up coming to that confusing call that resulted in a safety that lead to a cobber win.  Best luck to everyone this season, it should be a very interesting year.

3 Things:
1. I've witnessed many SJU (MIAC) games in my time and let me say the Cobber students were the biggest bunch of A-holes ever.
2.  Worst SJU offensive showing I have ever seen.  Cobber D is good but not that good.
3. Pick a friggin' QB....FIRE JIMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!#!!@!@!@!!@@#@#@!@##$!$!@@!!~~

I should apologize a bit for my comments from last evening...I was out a little late and had few cocktails in me.  At the same time I have attended a lot  of games in Collegeville and did feel that some of the "bad cobbers" were a little bit more over the top than I've experienced (UST students included).   I was actually looking around for security or Stearns County deputy to escort the young "drunk" man off the premises that was verbally assaulting me.  He was way over the top.  Not that I'm a big fan or SJU's Life Safety Services or the Stearns County authorities.   I did not see the post game celebration as I got the hell out of there after the last SJU offensive play.

I do believe that SJU is at a bit of a crossroads.  They are nowhere near as dominant as they had been in the late 90's and early part of this decade.  The defense is solid however the skilled positions on offense have not been filled with any go to guys since Blake the Great.  It concerns me that the staff in Collegeville may have an attitude that "they have built it and now they should come."

I  truly believe that yesterday's game goes a long way in answering the question if Jimmy G should be heir apparent  to his father.  I firmly believe that if someone such as Mike Grant were coaching in that situation the Johnnies would win.

Thanks to the Stiftungsfest hosts at Collegeville again yesterday! Beautiful day and great atsmosphere for a real grinder on the gridiron.

I'll agree with many who have posted before me that the Johnnies seemed to lack their usual snap. I'm not convinced it all rests on the three-headed quarterback. Perhaps it was because of defense domination (both ways), but the Johnnies didn't seem to have the usual speed advantage or possess the offensive game-breaker of a player (non-quarterback) that has always been there to rip the Cobbers' hearts out in the past.

I do want to congratulate my Cobbers for a very nice victory--especially for the seniors who had not had the opportunity to walk away from this matchup with a "W". Shame to any guests who were not living up to Concordia expectations of decorum...doesnt' he/they know how important our "no natural enemy" status is in the MIAC?

Running the table is always tough...too many wet footballs and strange bounces in the course of the season to look to that. However, the home/away schedule for the Cobbers the rest of the way out is as favorable as one could hope for.

Another test next week versus Bethel up on the windy plain...quite the stacked beginning of the conference season.
If the human brain were so simple that we could fully understand it...we would be so simple that we couldn't.

Thank you for letting me vent.  It feels great to get that off my chest.

Hmmm.....  Of course, if we are writing about this here, then others are thinking about it as well.

I would think that the amount of change we see in the offense this week is proportional to the loudness of the talk.  That being said, I wouldn't be surprised to see no change at all in the offensive philosophy.

cobbernation

Quite the afternoon in Collegeville yesterday.  A good game defensively, but sloppy offensively.  I did think the officiating was very inconsistent throughout the game for both teams.  3 plays continue to stick in my mind.  1. CC punter getting run into and a no call.  2.  CC receiver not getting a pass interference call late in the first half.  3.  SJU qb almost getting his head taken off in a clear facemask and yet no flag.

It's nice the cobbers to come out of Clemens with a win and have confidence going into the rest of the MIAC schedule!

Thanks again to all who put on Stiftungsfestivities, it's always nice to see fellow posters from the MIAC board.

Today the Denver Broncos held the N.O. Saints for no gain 3 times from their own 1 yard line. When the Broncos got the ball, the first play was a deep hand off in the end zone.
Any JOHNNIE fans want to predict the outcome ???

So you are saying Jimmy G has pro potential?

I've been obnoxious, to be sure.  I don't begrudge the cobber fans anything.  The ones I met were nice to me.  At least they're not Linfield fans who justify their insults and obnoxious behaviour with "stats" and then alibis after they've been beaten.  Actually, the Linfield people are great.  I think they are equally committed to their team/program as the Johnnie fans but I like to raz them when I can.  There's just something of the didactic, condescending but well-intentioned college professor in each of them.  Note: I did not include intellectually atrophied and creatively retrograde/retro-evolutionary which I think most public university college profs suffer from.  Here endeth the tangent.   I did not lump you cobber fans with either Linfield fans or college professors.  Talk about a left-handed compliment.

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

I guess what I'm saying is that by the time John retires, Mike Shanahan will be too old to coach the JOHNNIES  ;)
BTW: The Broncos survived the poor play call.  ::)
