SJU68

I just wanted to clarify something with the play calling.  I know for the last 4 years with Kofoed there he had made 90% of the calls on the field.  Every once in a while a suggestion would come in from something they saw up in the booth or a situational reminder from the sideline.  But, 90% was straight from the QB.  I don't know if that helps I just wanted to let everyone know.  Cheers.

Certain teams (and I know the only thing that matters is the "L" or the "W") just get up to play SJU. Bethel and Concordia have been those teams as of late.

But even in 2003 when UST went 3 and 7 and SJU won the National Championship, had Blake Elliot, gave Gags the record, had national press coverage weekly, etc....it still took a fumble on our end and a very late field goal for SJU to seal the deal.

SJU is always going to get a team's best shot...and every once in awhile, some team will come along and pull it off. Doesn't mean the wheels have fallen off the wagon.

As someone who doesn't get to see many games in person these days, it seems to me that this board is often at its best when SJU "has some issues."

Some of the cyber handwringing, while perfectly understandable, occasionally drifts to be a bit much.
But then you also get a lot of great posts, especially those from Duff (which when combined with a good boat and great fish pics you can understand why his K is in the positive 4-digits) and Ritz.

Thanks for that, all.

Oh yeah, and belated congrats to the Cobbs.

Since you mentioned it, here's an interesting catch from the other night.  Can anyone name that fish?  Winner gets some karma from me.  It was a first for me, but I caught 5 more that night.

I'd say that's a gar, or sometimes called the paddlefish?

Shovelnose sturgeon, if I'm not mistaken.  Must have been on the St. Croix, no?

That reminds me, I need to get a few of my better photos from the summer up here.

Not on the St. Croix, though.

Yep, very minimal hops talk in the last 5 pages here.

Yep, sturgeon...a Nationally Protected Asset - in parts of Russia.
In the Columbia River the species there grow 10-12 feet and years back some fool (s) jumped in with them and cut them open and left for dead. If I remember it was just because they could (slow moving) and not an attempt at free caviar.

I would love to fish the Columbia for white sturgeon.  They are massive.  In MN, we have lake sturgeon and shovelnose sturgeon.  Lake's are the bigger of the two.  The state record is about 94 pounds.  Shovelnose sturgeon are quite a bit smaller.  The state record is only 6-7 pounds.

faunch

I hope the SJU staff read Bob Sansevere's Q & A with Gopher quarterback Adam Weber:

"The toughest thing about being the Gophers' starting quarterback is you can't have a bad day. If you don't feel like practicing or you're a little cranky or you're having a rough day or you didn't sleep, you have to be on point when you come out there. It's just like the head coach. He brings it every day, his attitude and enthusiasm. You have to bring intensity and your "A" game to practice every day because you set the tone. If you have a bad practice, everybody on offense has a bad practice."

"I'm a uniter...not a divider."
