When we made our visit in the spring of '06 we were told by a player that the qb's called their own plays.  When we later met with John I asked him about this; he said the coaching staff sent in "suggestions" about 50% of the time (he smiled when he used the word "suggestion" but he did say it was just half the time).  Now I get the sense that Jimmy is calling every play.

Not a single word about the stellar play of one #50.... I haven't checked the scorecard however I did see him playing left end on the goal line stand!

Your impressions?

Great kid, good bloodlines, needs to see the field more!  ;)

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

In more uplifting news, Johnnie Golf is looking spectacular for the third year in a row.

cobbernation - The SJU announce crew, who are usually pretty good at getting the scoop from the sidelines explained that the punter had "established his position on the field after the punt" (which I guess means that he had completed punting and was now a potential tackler) so he was fair game to be blocked. Makes sense if that was indeed the case.

flash, You're on. Was it at the Waterside? If you haven't been there since they remodeled/expanded - the food is quite good.

Retangent,
It was a good no call if this was the case or if the ball was tipped.

I have no first hand knowledge, only repeating what I heard from the peopel who are supposed to know these things. My initial thought when they initially said that he was run into, and they were questioning why they didn't throw the flag was that it was touched. They followed with the explanation I posted.

Flash, a warning in retrospect:  about a month ago I made the mistake of getting a bottle of choclate favored Bailey's, bad mistake, it is much too sweet so beware.

How is everyone today? Big series for the Twins-am still looking for that Twins v. Cubs World Series.
Everyone spent on SJU football, just reminds me of the teams from the 80's, some were  very good and other were just good. We will see how this team reacts to the loss, although it is very difficult to beat SJU on homecoming.

I would have loved to be a mouse in the corner yesterday during film video (sorry Pat  ;)) session. I'm sure there was some spirited verbal comments from the coaching staff.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I agree 105.  The coaching staff should probably be using every expletive in the book.  Either the SJU team, particularly the O-Line, is complacent or they just are not that good.  If I were on the coaching staff, I'd suggest that the second string be brougt in to play for the remainder of the year or until the former first string can prove that they can play.  That O-line play was abysmal.  Brice and I will have to come to the STiffy-fest activities this Saturday if nothing else just to raz the LSS clowns.

USTBench

Since I have been dormant for such a long time...and I've had my fill of the woes of the Johnnies; I'm going throw out some comments on my beloved UST Tommies as well as a few other things.

1) Beating Mac, never really gets me excited...however, Glenn Caruso seems to have brought a ton of energy back to the program. I have never seen that stadium full for a game that didn't involve SJU, Gustavus or Bethel. Looked like a great atmosphere.

2) Going down to St. Olaf and out-playing them most of the game...especially on defense, where perennially they have a very potent offense, has got me pleased. Wish they could have closed the door on them.

3) Who wins the MIAC now?

4) If, in a few years, the Tommies win their first MIAC title since 1990, or make the playoffs, does Caruso go elsewhere? (He seems a bit of a journeyman to me...despite his comments that he wants to stay at UST forever)
