I agree 105.  The coaching staff should probably be using every expletive in the book.  Either the SJU team, particularly the O-Line, is complacent or they just are not that good.  If I were on the coaching staff, I'd suggest that the second string be brougt in to play for the remainder of the year or until the former first string can prove that they can play.  That O-line play was abysmal.  Brice and I will have to come to the STiffy-fest activities this Saturday if nothing else just to raz the LSS clowns.

You really don't mean that I am sure.  If the second team were better I am sure they would be playing.  With the success that SJU has had they know how to evaluate their talent.

Since I have been dormant for such a long time...and I've had my fill of the woes of the Johnnies; I'm going throw out some comments on my beloved UST Tommies as well as a few other things.

1) Beating Mac, never really gets me excited...however, Glenn Caruso seems to have brought a ton of energy back to the program. I have never seen that stadium full for a game that didn't involve SJU, Gustavus or Bethel. Looked like a great atmosphere.

2) Going down to St. Olaf and out-playing them most of the game...especially on defense, where perennially they have a very potent offense, has got me pleased. Wish they could have closed the door on them.

3) Who wins the MIAC now?

4) If, in a few years, the Tommies win their first MIAC title since 1990, or make the playoffs, does Caruso go elsewhere? (He seems a bit of a journeyman to me...despite his comments that he wants to stay at UST forever)

1. Beating MAC is like beating your little sister in HORSE. It's supposed to happen. When you win you shrug and say I expected that. When you lose you retire to a dark corner of the house with your favorite blanket and cry at the realization you are no longer a man.

2. Losing in 6 OT's still counts the same in the loss column as a loss by 40pts. Moral victories are only relished by those who don't get and don't expect regular victories.

3. SJU and CC tie. Carleton knocks of the Cobbers. You heard (read) it here first.

4. IF That's a big If. Playing St Olaf tough is a long way from winning the MIAC. Olaf hasn't won the crown since I turned negative 3.  Coaches always say they have no intention of going elsewhere until they announce they are going elsewhere. It's the same as when a politician says "I promise to do xyz if elected." Their word only holds good until a better offer (in their eyes/wallets) arises.
Also, 1990 was a split title between UST and Concordia. UST's last outright win was 1983, TDT was still breast feeding and Gags was a spry 55 year old still learning the ropes.

Ask Florida or Utah about how long forever means in coach speak.
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

I don't know, Dutch.  That O-line looked god-awful.  Maybe it's just pissedness but I don't think the second team could have done any worse.  The Cobbs were tough and I don't mean to take anything away from them even though it seems like I am.  But the O-line is many, many tiers below what we've been used to seeing in years past.

As far as UST is concerned, I have been sad to see them relatively terrible for so many years even though they've had some pretty good talent (Barkley, et all).  I think you'd have to go back to when I was at SJU to find a really, really good CST team -- back then CST had Guggemos and Gustafson and a few other outstanding guys (Guggemos was probably a sophomore or freshman when Gustafson was a senior).  I hope that they do become really competitive again.  I think Roney was a decent coach but he obviously lacked something somewhere.

Willy Wonka

Wonka and Frank will be in attendance on Saturday, possibly with one of Frank's meathead friends (not Mongo, unfortunately). What time is everyone planning to arrive? Frank wants to get there by 9 or 10...but that's pretty early for Wonka. Do we need to bring anything, besides our Gustie attire and cheery attitudes?

I haven't seen the Gusties play yet this year. That said, if they can stay close in the first half — which has always been a problem against the Johnnies — I think they have a chance to spring the second straight upset in Collegeville. I'm jacked and tan just thinking about it.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

We will see how this team reacts to the lose, although it is very difficult to beat SJU on homecoming.

I would have loved to be a mouse in the corner yesterday during film video (sorry Pat  ;)) session. I'm sure there was some spirited verbal comments from the coaching staff.

Wow -- someone picked up on one of my pet peeves. :)

I'd say, bring lawyers, guns and money.

I don't know if you've talked to a lot of different athletic programs about their terminology, but here in Minnesota we do call it film.  and sometimes tape, despite the fact that it's a dvd.

Johnnie Red

Willy Wonka, if you get to the Stiftungsfestivities by 10:30 a.m. you will be fine. In terms of bringing a culinary delight, how about a shrimp platter? We had someone bring one last Saturday and it went over well. One thing you don't want to do is walk past campus security with a case of beer like Cobbernation did last Saturday. Then again, the Cobbers did win the game. :P

In that order from most effective to least!

Men,

How is the waterfowl season going on up in MN?  Anyone having any luck?

Klops,

The season is good.  I got a couple coots the other day along with a hawk, trumpeter swan, and barely missed a bald eagle.  Needless to say, it's been very good.  I'm gonna set up a few more decoys tonight on my land along with a few cameras (silent witnesses).

The White Silly,

Do you have a good recipe for Bald Eagle? I haven't been able to find one that I can really get excited about.  I would like to either broil or grill on indirect heat. Any help would be appreciated  ::)

Darn gald to hear it.  Those trumpeter swans are a pize poessesion.  I would make sure you take it to your local taxidermist and then make sure you mout in the hood of your pride ride as a hood ornament.

Another entry in the "Things You See When You Aren't Carrying a Gun With a Scope On It" files:  I was out fishing a few years ago and saw a bald eagle swoop down and pick off a baby loon.

For the record, who are the tree-huggers rooting for in that scenario?

Anyone else headed to the Dome this evening?  I had to spend most of my day listening to a co-worker tell me about days like this are the reason she's mad about getting an outdoor stadium for the Twins.

That's a tough one. I'm thinking they's vote baby loon for the "cute" factor. For the record, I am not a tree hugger; as if you'd have to ask. If you were a baby loon, how would you want to die, Bald Eagle coming out of the sky, a Muskie coming out of the depths or the propeller of Duff's recent purchase?
