Anyone else headed to the Dome this evening?  I had to spend most of my day listening to a co-worker tell me about days like this are the reason she's mad about getting an outdoor stadium for the Twins.

Just headed out the door, TC. Have to make sure Delmon doesn't go 20 for 4 and ruin my chances of getting a case of Hamm's from TDT.
I'd love to be sitting outside tonight, though.

I'm pulling for you to win that bet, fins--I'm sure if TDT owed you a case of beer we wouldn't see him again the rest of the season.

I noticed how much you enjoyed sitting in the rain for the UW-RF game, tonight would be just the night for you at the ballpark.  I doubt the fine folks at Target Park would let you bring your (err, TDT's) tent inside, though.

105--I'll take death by muskie, thank you very much.

UST Bench,
Don't get too excited about playing the Ole offense tough this year... the receiving core is beat up and inexperienced, and due to the previous head coach's love of keeping starters (i.e. matt penz) in the game late into the fourth quarter, there is a very inexperienced qb at the helm right now, and he isn't the passer that penz was, he's much more of a runner.  In short, they aren't going to be putting up 40+ on anybody in the near future, which is convenient because their defense is the best that it has been in a long, LONG time.

KR,
Carleton (sucks) over Concordia?  I'm gonna go ahead and call shenanigans right now...

But then you also get a lot of great posts, especially those from Duff (which when combined with a good boat and great fish pics you can understand why his K is in the positive 4-digits) and Ritz.

Since you mentioned it, here's an interesting catch from the other night.  Can anyone name that fish?  Winner gets some karma from me.  It was a first for me, but I caught 5 more that night.

I'd say that's a gar, or sometimes called the paddlefish?

I agree with Fins, The grow a lot bigger in the south, Texas & Arkansas. How's his teeth Duff?

Duff, actually it looks a bit like a barracuda!

Willy Wonka, if you get to the Stiftungsfestivities by 10:30 a.m. you will be fine. In terms of bringing a culinary delight, how about a shrimp platter? We had someone bring one last Saturday and it went over well. One thing you don't want to do is walk past campus security with a case of beer like Cobbernation did last Saturday. Then again, the Cobbers did win the game. :P

Wonka,

If Gustavus is going to beat SJU at Clemens and on Homecoming weekend.  Bring a keg to Stiftungsfestivities!

Any word on who the lucky lad at starting QB will be?  And do you think it's actually a settled issue?

Come again?

I think if the Gusties can stay within a touchdown at halftime, they have a good shot of walking out with the win. Having watched and been a part of 7 games where that hasn't happened, I can't say with any degree of confidence that it's likely this time around...but the Cobbers and the dreadful state of the SJU offense have certainly given me more hope than in recent years.

JR - I'll make sure Frank picks up some shrimp for the gathering. I've heard rumors that the grill masters have been dealing some meat that's still mooing as they search for their starting "quarterback" this fall. No matter how the game turns out, Wonka expects a better performance in that department this weekend...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

I heard that a PA announcement will be made at 12:45..."Will you please open your Johnnie Game day program and turn to page 21. If you have a skull and crossbones stamped over the picture of Jimmy G, you will get to pick the starting quarterback for today's game."

The White Silly,

Do you have a good recipe for Bald Eagle? I haven't been able to find one that I can really get excited about.  I would like to either broil or grill on indirect heat. Any help would be appreciated  ::)

Try asking Sarah Palin.

My second last AFL post of the year (Yeah! they all yell).  I'll just follow-up with the results of the Grand Final.

This year's Grand Final is matching up to hopefully be a replay of 1989's epic clash between Geelong and Hawthorn, considered by many to be the greatest Grand Final ever played.  In a feral and bruising affair, the Hawks proved victorious, but it required gladiatorial efforts by many players.  Hawthorn's Dermott Brereton was cheap-shotted on the opening bounce and suffered a torn kidney and internal bleeding; yet he stayed in the game and put in a match winning performance.  Robert 'Dipper' DiPierdomenico, Hawthorn's enforcer, was brutally ganged up upon and suffered multiple broken ribs and a punctured lung; yet he stayed on to finish the game and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance at the closing siren.  Speedy midfielder John 'The Rat' Platten (with a name and nickname like that, how can Hawthorn not be the team of choice for all Johnnies?) was knocked out cold and carried from the field.

Here is a Hawthorn highlight video of '89 for those that may be interested.

And to add to the historic tension of the match, Gary Ablett Jr will be playing for Geelong.  His father, Gary Ablett Sr, is the only player to win a Norm Smith Medal (Grand Final MVP) in a losing effort.  The year?  1989.

Good analysis today on JohnnieFootball.com.  Based on the following stats do you think we need to open up the passing attack more and take more risk?

Avg Yds Rushing 2.6
Pass Completion 67%
Interceptions 2
Sacks Allowed 9

If so, which QB would best respond to this objective?

DuffMan

It's tough to open up your passing attack when the QB has no time to throw the ball!
