Klops I understand your frustration for a good eagle recipe...I typically resort to just smoking em' and that turns out pretty nice.  I see Augsburg, Bethel, and SJU all winning this weekend.  GO TWINS!

Yea, I guess so.  If your offensive line doesn't block effectively, I guess there's nothing you can do.

My second last AFL post of the year

Promises, promises ...  :D

By your discription, Oz, it appears you're suggesting that ARF is essentially gladitorial combat, Roman Coliseum style.

Sounds like great fun.

Oz, I have no idea what was going on in that video, but there were some killer mullets. :D

A tradition unrivaled...

The best part of Oz's video is the referees in their old uniforms - their little hats and blazers and the double six-shooter routine they do to signal a score.  Combined with the short shorts worn by the players, and, as Duff notes, their mullets, it's the dorkiest looking sport I've ever seen.

They used to show ARF out here on the left coast, just before reruns of The Creature from the Black Lagoon. :D

Congrats to John and, yeah, overdue.

Although I've always wondered why he's not in the NAIA Hall.

It's not that you have to be retired.  Dickinson State's Hank Biesot is in there and Frosty W. was put in in 1995 while active.

And shouldn't Ad Rutschman be there? What's up?

Good analysis today on JohnnieFootball.com.  Based on the following stats do you think we need to open up the passing attack more and take more risk?

Avg Yds Rushing 2.6
Pass Completion 67%
Interceptions 2
Sacks Allowed 9

If so, which QB would best respond to this objective?

Duff nailed it--it all starts up front.  Against UW-RF, where the offensive line was getting a great push and opening holes, Reding looked like a very capable back.  It's apparent from the other two games, though, that if he isn't getting that help from the line he's not going to create much on his own.  Schnobrich seems much less dependent on the line, but I really think you are limiting the offense with him as the feature back.

St. John's needs to establish the run to set up the pass because they sure aren't going to succeed in the passing game on pure talent alone anymore.  Attacking and risk taking in the passing game is nice, but when the other team is firing bullets at your quarterback because they don't respect your line or your ability to run the football?  Ugh, that could get scary in a hurry.

I think the two toughest d-lines the Johnnies will face all year are Concordia and Bethel.  You saw the problems the Cobbers caused and I'd expect more of the same in two weeks.  I wouldn't be surprised if the offense suddenly looks a lot better this next week just based on the calibre of defense they are playing, because giving the Johnnies' skill players even a little more time and space should make a world of difference.

The QB issue?  I'm now resigned to the fact that they need to pick one guy and go with him.  No more changing between mobile vs. pocket and lefty vs. righty every quarter or drive or play--that in itself should help the line somewhat.  If I had to choose one guy, I'd say Boyle, but that's because whoever they have back there is going to have to dodge the more-than-occasional rusher.

Yea, I guess so.  If your offensive line doesn't block effectively, I guess there's nothing you can do.

That is the #1 problem I am having with my Middle School team.  We are a new school with no $ to buy a sled so we are having a hard time teaching the O line to fire off the ball and drive block.

John got rid of all that stuff in 1954. Contact the SJU athletic department and see if they have it stored somewhere.  :D

According to Wikipedia, Ad was named to the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1988.

Actually, he's in there for baseball, although his football record is more much impressive. You'd think a guy with 3 national titles would be recognized for that -- and in the football manual.

tmerton

Well, if they're not going to put him in with 3 titles, they're not going to include John with only 2! ;)  Bobby Petrino was much more deserving. :P :P

Did TWS start a new medication regime this year? I think he's actually making some sense. Or do I have to go see my phamacist?
