Who's in charge of the radio this weekend? I want to make sure we have the U's annihilation of the Buckeyes on tap (and not Miss Hilton) before watching another home crowd leave in stunned silence.

HAHAHA...sorry that just makes me laugh. Gonna be the other way around my friend. Buckeyes by 20+

so i get back to my office after dousing another fire in our setting IV room (the one without windows and angles and with padded walls...

On my desk, next to my water bottle is a printed version of a fox news story about a 12 year old urinating in a teacher's coffee cup.  My staff is sooooooo funny!

Setting IV room...doesn't sound too good.

However, your staff is pretty funny ritzy. They should have tried a little Mountain Dew in the water bottle for full effect.  ;)

I'm telling you 57, it's like a bomb went off around here. Everyone is stunned.

Hopefully someone buys it up and gets it going again. It's about 5 minutes by boat from my dock.

finsleft and I had a fresh Leinenkugel's at the Tiki Bar there this summer as a matter of fact.

On Monday morning, the sign posted on the door says, "Jake's will be closed indefinitely. Sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused."

On Tuesday, Jake's Supper Club owner John Lynch said, "I just wasn't able to make it swing anymore, and I kind of ran out of options."

He explained that the abrupt closure was based on a combination of factors: "The economy is tough; $4 gas is tough. There's a whole slug of new restaurants in the Eau Claire and Menomonie area. And I wasn't obviously able to change as much as I should have."

Since 1946, there's been a restaurant on Tainter Lake by the Lamb's Creek Bridge. Until 1980, it was known as Doug & Mary's River's Edge Resort. The name changed to Jake's when the property was purchased by Jake Frank, and it stayed the same when his son-in-law John Lynch bought the restaurant in 1992.

Asked if there was anything that might turn the situation around, Lynch said no. As of Tuesday morning, he was in the process of calling his employees to let them know that Jake's is no longer open.

"We hope to facilitate a sale as soon as possible so somebody can get in there and get it going," he said.

In light of the closing, the Sixth Annual Lake Art & Beer Fest, hosted in years past by Jake's Supper Club, is looking for another venue for the event, set for Sunday, Oct. 5.

Lynch expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the restaurant's loyal patrons.

"I just feel awful — for my employees ... for my regular customers and patrons that come in all the time," Lynch said. "I don't like to fail them, and I feel that I have. But I just don't know what else to do at this point."

One loyal patron, Terry Petrie, expressed his shock and dismay at Jake's closing.

"I was over there Sunday morning ... there were probably 30 or 40 people in the bar, plus — it was a beautiful day — there was a bunch of people out on the deck," he said. "The next day, they're closed. ... I couldn't believe it."

Petrie noted that the restaurant is a Dunn County landmark.

"Everybody knows where Jake's is," he said. "They'd say, 'Where do you live? In Menomonie?' I'd say, 'No, I live four-tenths of a mile from Jake's.' And they'd say, 'Oh, I know where that's at.'"

Lynch said he feels guilty about the sorrow he has been experiencing about closing Jake's.

"There's so much bad stuff going on, and there's lots worse stuff going on than me having to close the restaurant," he concluded. "It's still not a good deal."

I feel somewhat responsible. If each of us would've bought just one more round, it might have made the difference.

Mr. Ypsi

There's always hope!  One of my favorite places, the Inverness Inn, lasted all the way from being a stagecoach stop to its sudden closure two years ago.  Imagine my delight when I recently found it re-opened.

Touchdown Tommy

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
Touchdown Tommy will be unavailable this evening due to his impending attendance at the Robin Williams show in Minneapolis.  I will be putting the MIACPP in the capable hands of one Mr. Finsleft who will handle any and all shenanigans or tomfoolery that may arise in my absence.

Thanks much,

The President.
