 For the first time,
the Knights are receiving votes in this week's American Football
Coaches Association national poll.

First the Gophers get votes now the knights?  Who are these voters?

Here's to a solid healthy win over MAC this weekend moving to the big game that the Knights have had circled on the calendar since last year.  Oct. 4th at Olaf.

Is there anywhere to tailgate at Olaf?  Every game I've been to there has coincided with the state cross country meet so there was never anywhere to park.

BDB

For what it's worth, here are the MIAC games involved in other conferences pick 'em's this week:

Bethel-Concordia: WIAC, ASC, NWC, OAC

Augsburg-St. Olaf: CCIW

Gustavus-St. John's: ODAC

Now that it is official, sad to hear it-- Dietrich has always been a kind, albeit gentle and supportive prexy.

Here's hoping to a full (though from what I understand is somewhat unlikely) recovery.

Dietrich is indeed one of the good guys.  That "C" thing really sucks and I'm sure everyone has a story.  My brother-in-law just had surgery yesterday to remove a kidney that had a tumor wrapped around it.  At least you guys have Mayo where you can have some confidence that Dietrich will get treatment that is competent and state-of-the-art.

TC - what's your guess as to how long TDT will hold you up tomorrow morning from arriving at Collegeville at a reasonable hour?  I would suggest calling Buckwheat a minimum of 2 hours before your planned meeting time so you don't have to sit around waiting for him.  He'll probably still show up late, however, as he's still crunching the numbers trying to figure out how Delmon can reach .300.

Fins & LBean - what time are you guys showing up?

GO JOHNNIES!!
Go Johnnies!!!

What time are people arriving tomorrow? Frank wants to arrive at the crack of dawn, but Wonka is clearly pushing for some more shuteye...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

PRF07- I'd try the lot down by the fieldhouse for tailgating. As always, keep an eye out for campus security if you plan to have a few beers, maybe bring a few red cups ;)

Wonka- Here's an idea, arrive early and have Frank drive while you sleep, because we all know you will be driving home  :o
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

enjoying my evening at the Abbey Guesthouse with the Mrs. and one of the bitz.  Just talked to a 67 alum, blitzed off his a$$ coming from Bro. WIllies....Good humor...He couldn't remember where his room was so he said he was going to sleep in his car!

I have to set up a tent at 8:00, but am planning on being at the festivities no later than 10.

Woooooohooooooo!!!!!

What a game!  In front of 100,012 screaming footy fans, Hawthorn and Geelong treated us to a gem of a game.  It was a hard game with the men going hard at the ball.

The first half was a thrilling period where Geelong continually threatened to run away with match, but a last line of defense effort from Luke Hodge, the well-awarded Norm Smith Medalist (Grand Final MVP), kept Hawthorn in the game.  At quarter time Geelong led by a point, 33 - 32.  The Hawks hung tough and kept it close in the last minutes of the second quarter under extreme pressure and then stole a three point lead at the long break, 51 - 48.  The Cats came out really hard in the third quarter, but Hodge stood tall and in the last eight or so minutes of the quarter the Hawks hammered back and finished the period in front, 89 - 72.  And in the fourth quarter the Hawthorn midfield ran, and ran, and ran, denying the Cats enough ball to make it back and the Hawks ended up winning going away, 115 - 89.

The tension in the household reached electric proportions as we watched the game (Grand Final bbq at the Oz residence this year).  Mrs Oz, born in Geelong, and her family are all die-hard Cats supporters.  The father-in-law just got out of the hospital this morning after having a couple arteries scraped so I was hesitant to wind him up too much.  But needless to say, it was a great day.

Highlights, for those interested, are here.  (EDIT: Changed the url to a really good feed from FoxSports.)

And as this is my last AFL post this season, I would like to thank you all for your indulgence.  And also I would like to extend an invitation to any readers to have a beer or two and a good pub crawl if you ever happen to visit Oz.  Make sure to send me a note - I'm always happy to entertain visitors.  And if it's during footy season, then all the better.

(One last parting treat, it's footage from this year's Grand Final finale of the, appropriately named, Footy Show.  Here is Almost Football Legends.  A couple of pretty good legends in their own minds there.)

So are the Hawks the ARF version of the Johnnies? Loved by many and hated by those who just don't "get it"  8)

Sleeping in your car with a room less than 100 feet away could be considered wrong.  Unless of course you are PO'd with the misses.

It's 11:30.   I gotta stop watching highlights and get to bed.  Only 4 1/2 hour until game time.

Night folks.

(And you gotta pay a bit extra for a cheer squad club membership where you get to sit in front of goals and wave the poms-poms.  My girls are already asking if they can be in it.  Many nice girls hanging around the Rat Pack in your days?)
