Wow, I have never seen the word Schadenfreude before and now I've seen it in two different places in two days....here is an excerpt from today's StarTribune:

I saw it in a book or some place other than this board yesterday and definately noticed it and was a little weirded out as it is not a common word, but apparently it's making a comeback.

A coincidence? I think not. We've had evidence before that the Strib guys monitor the MIACPP.  ;)

Sorry to hear there might be some crappy weather for Moorhead and maybe some of the other MIAC games.

Here for Stout v. Oshkosh we are looking at 75 and sunny.  8)

Hold down the fort troops. I have Special Olympics and will be lucky to get back in time to turn out the lights. Watch bennie. She has 13 games to watch later today - a lot of 10 of them will be on at the same time  :o

57-I will be here for the first half hour-so that should be enough to tell the tale.
The real question for D3-can anyone beat MUC or UWW? That's all that really matters.

Call me a front runner if you'd like, but I know a winning program when I see one.

Impossible.  You're a Twins fan. 8)

You can't talk about Schadenfreude without mentioning Avenue Q. My one big NYC recommendation if you ever get a chance to see a Broadway show: forget the classic shows, see Avenue Q, an R-rated Muppets. You'll laugh for 2.5 hours. Just don't bring the kids.

My favorite line comes between 1:25 and 1:30.

Hopefully, the J's can at appear offensively competent today.  After all, it is Hamline that they're playing.

And I have the NHLTV channel on mute so that I can watch the classic Avs/Wings game from the 2002 Western Conference finals while I listen to the Johnnie game. Those were certainly the good old days of that rivalry! ;D

Im really impressed by the Auggies this year. They are looking real good. I believe they will win their division the way they are playing. You have to agree with me. No on they played so far has been able stop the presence of Air Auggie. And their defense is astounding. A great future is in store for the Auggie. Believe that.

Wow, the conference race becomes "curiouser and curiouser."  The Corn-heads have 360 yds of offense but only score 13 points.  2 TO's, a blocked FG, and ultimately the game is decided by a blocked PAT.

Break up the Knights!  Congrats to them, and for LAB's sake I'm going to withhold any cracks at Auggie.  It would just be too easy.

Now that Bethel has its QB situation settled, they continue to improve.  Another very good game for them today!

CCKnight

Just got back from the barn-burner in Northfield...Wow, was that a game.  Not a whole lot of defense, but a definate shoot out that easily could have gone either way.  Congrats to both teams for leaving it all on the field and playing one hell of a game.

Neither team could really stop the other teams offense as over 1000 yards were put up today.  Augsburgs passing attack is very, very tough.  Their recievers do a great job of coming back to the ball and making catches and are quite shifty as well,  and their QB is very accurate.

The key plays of the game for the knights were a 26yrd TD pass to tie the game as time ran out in the first half, the knights onside kick (which was a brilliant call) after tying it at 35 in the 3rd and turning it into a TD, and finally Ziller's blocked punt and return for a TD to go up two scores.  The game wasn't over until final throw by Augsburg that was picked off.

Once again, great games played by both teams.

Another possitive for the knights is that they were able to win and put up a lot of points without their top receiver Frank playing.  A couple young wideouts, a sophmore and a freshman had big games and made some bigtime catches which bodes well for the future and Gardner had a solid game.

The offensive stats for this game are completely rediculous.  Berg was 42 of 62 for 508yds, 4TDs & 1 desperation pick.  Winford, 10 catches 162yds 2TD, Al-Hameed 13 catches 146yds 2TD.  For Carleton Henfling was 21 of 27 for 266yds, 4TDs 0 Int.  Freshman RB Jon Lien 25 carries for 168yds & 2TD.  In the end a couple bounces / big plays went Carleton's way and they were able to hold on, and are now in sole possession of 1st place, pretty crazy.

Go Knights!

Lone Auggie Backer

I will post two messages regarding today's game. Posted in a very specific order. The first is to congratulate Carleton.  They came out and played one heck of a ball game. They made some HUGE plays at very important times during the game and should be congratulated for getting the W today.

With literally no time left on the clock, one of their receivers made a great play on a ball in a short field version of a hail-Mary. To begin that catch, I must give a ton of credit to their QB for keeping the play alive with his feet just to get the ball off. Then, their receiver made a great catch to tie the game going into half-time. It was a great play to steal the momentum back going into the locker rooms.

The Carleton running back was a horse.  He did a great job breaking tackles, and, almost more importantly catching the ball out of the backfield. He had some VERY key grabs at times the the Knights really needed them. I must commend him on a job well done.

Carleton's receiver #1 had a good day.  He came up with some key catches on third-and-long situations that kept drives alive.

Carleton's other receiver, #80, also played his tail off.  He is a VERY good receiver. I don't know what year he is, but, for the Auggie's sake, hope that he graduates this year!

I was incredibly surprised when seeing the Carleton front for the first time.  I may be bigger than their right tackle (#55) but he sure doesn't play like one of the smallest linemen I've seen in a while. He and that entire front move well, get their hips into position extremely well, and really can say that they put the game on their shoulders today.  Hats off to them.

The Carleton D came up big when they had to. I am in no way ripping the Carleton D, but they did not impress me as much as their offense.  A bit of proof of this is the fact that they gave up 564 yards (508 through the air). But, they did have a couple of key stops in the 3rd and 4th quarters when the game really began to have the pressure build.

Carleton also had two big plays on special teams. One I will speak about in my second post. The other was a HUGE blocked punt for a score that really killed the Auggies today. The guy that got the block just plain beat our guy. I am in no way ripping the guy that got beat, as from time to time on a football field, the guy that you are going against may win the one on one battle. In today's game, one of those defeats for us unfortunately came at a very costly time.  Their guys on special teams did a good job today!

On the whole, Carleton played a very good game. I must tip my cap to them and congratulate them for playing their tails off from the first minute to the last!

On the Auggie side, What more can you say about our offense.  We put up those 564 yards, throwing for 508! We had 3 guys with over 100 total yards on the day! (Royce (MVP!!!) with 10 for 162 and 2; Muneer with 13 for 146 and 2; and Potts with 59 receiving yards and 58 rushing yards!) The Auggie O line did a great job today.  Jordan was only sacked twice, and had good time all day long. Sure, there were a couple of plays that he had to hurry a bit, but, that is bound to happen when you run 80 offensive plays!

I was dead wrong on my T.O.P. prediction. The Auggies actually controlled the clock well, winning the battle by nearly 5 minutes. That was a surprise to me!

I actually wasn't all that disappointed by the Auggie defense today.  We held them to 33% on 3rd down conversions today. We held them to 19 actual first downs today (the other 5 to be commented on later) and actually did a pretty good job today. Yes, the team gave up 49 points, but 7 of those came on special teams. So, as much as some may want to trash the Auggie defense today, for those that were there, they didn't do as bad a job as the score suggests.

I thought that the Auggies played incredibly well. I am very disappointed in the outcome. It was a great game for those that were in the crowd.

I do have to say, the swishy "cheerboys" as the Carleton announcer calls them are pathetic. They did annoy me a bit!

I hope that those of you that got a chance to get down to Northfield enjoyed the game. It was a perfect day for football, a good atmosphere for the game, and was mostly fun to watch.

Again, congrats to the Auggies. They did play their a$$es off today. Congratulations to the Knights. That was a huge win for them and definitely puts them into the driver's seat for this conference!

Out of order, I'll show you out of order! You don't know what out of order is, Mr Task! I'd show you but I'm too old, I'm too tired, and I'm too f----n blind. If I were the man I was 5 years ago, I'd take a FLAMETHROWER to this place. Out of order, who the hell do you think you're talking to?
