If you want to see some vulgar tee shirts go to an Ohio St. - Michigan game in Ohio.  There is the common, F#$@ Michigan, and others with the f-bomb but my favorite is ...."Ann Arbor is a whore".  They get more creative with the vulgar tee shirts than their offensive cooridinator does with his play calling, that, coming from a Buckeye fan.

Are you bragging about Ohio State fans' general classlessness?

T-Shirts are one thing (and the 'Ann Arbor is a whore' was creative about 20 years ago), but people getting their cars vandalized because they have MI plates, drinks intentionally spilled, bottles thrown, fights started is a totally different story...

It almost broke my heart when I attended the Carleton game my senior year.  All these Carls walking around with shirts saying "My logarithm is bigger than a Johnnie's."  First off, I didn't even know what a logarithm is and second it's never good to be smaller.  Bullies.

Those jokes were funny. Though I have heard a few interchanged with Carleton/Olaf before.

They used to sell 'Carleton Sucks' (in maize and blue) shirts at the Olaf bookstore. I believe they stopped due to it being directly related to the school. But the primary reason they stopped the sales is because Olaf finally realized the shirts represented their gigantic inferiority complex more than anything else.  I wonder how they feel now, especially since we are better in almost every sport.  ;) ;D (finally some bragging rights!)

One question though, how come the MIAC does not let traditional rivalries be played in the final week of every season, Johnnies/Tommies, Carleton/Olaf, etc. ?

The first thing that I would like to say in response to that is this: Olaf has much, much better women than Carleton does.  Carleton girls look like Sloth from the Goonies.  You KNOW that's true.

Second: The Carleton Sucks shirts, to my knowledge,  have always been sold by a group of students acting independently of the college.  I will get one for you if you'd like.  ;)

Third: Besides football, what sports has Carleton beaten St. Olaf at this year besides football?

KR,
my favorite joke:
What is the difference between a Tommie girl and the nickel horse at the grocery store?
A.) the nickel
B.) Most nickel horses haven't been ridden by a Johnnie.

Does that imply that most Johnnies "ride" Tommie girls?  Wouldn't that be a bad thing since "Tommie girls are sl*ts"?  What does that say about the Johnnies?  ;D

Pat,
Do I need to use an * when typing sl*ts or can I just type the word out?

I don't know if you can type that word all the way out. The board will censor it if it was set to.

Haha, trust me, you will never see me defending Carleton girls' beauty. While I was there, probably a total of 5-6 girls that would have been considered hot at a big school, but the most attractive usually get wifey'd up pretty quickly.
That is why I spent most of my time in Northfield with Ole girls, for realz. Once I hit 21, I was pretty much in MPLS every Fri/Sat; Carleton social life was lame except for a few big time parties.

When I was at Carleton, the 'Carleton Sucks' shirts were sold in the Ole bookstore right there in your student center. How is it possible to sell them independently of the college (not denying that it isn't possible) if 1.)they were being sold on campus, in your primary outlet for Ole apparel 2.) You payed at the register...?  But I actually might take you up on your offer, because it would be an awesome gift for someone close to me that truly hates Carleton...

That was a general statement based on the only other two sports I care about. Our mens soccer team is def better (arguably the best in the west region), we have been better in men's b-ball basketball recently, 6-2 over the past 4 seasons. I know you are superior in baseball, but I could care less about that sport. You are probably better in track, but def not cross country. Obviously we don't have a real hockey team.

KnightRyder........I was only talking tee shirts.  Obviously no one in their right mind would condone the vandalism you refer to, except maybe TDT ;)

The computer accepted Tommies?!  Sure sign of the Apocalypse! ;D

More seriously, I am SO tired of simple decency or common courtesy being derided as 'political correctness'.  Colleges have an obvious interest in keeping football games (one of their most public displays) 'kid friendly' so as not to alienate their future students (or, more likely, the parents of future students - the kids probably get a kick out of it).  Over-the-top t-shirts, chants, etc., are unnecessary, usually rather banal, and don't exactly reflect well on the intellectual accomplishments of the school.  It's not a matter of PC; it is a reflection of your manners and intelligence.

Of course, I also support genuine traditions - due to it's tenure, I might make an exception for "Tommies suck". :D
